I think I might just pick up a Sennheiser HD 219 or 202 depending on what's in stock. Good bang-for-buck choice or should I look for something else?
I have Sennheiser hd 380 pro, and I hate the stupid curly wire it came with. It's unwinding and being difficult. Can I replace the wire with a less stupid one?
Well, I'm looking for a pair of earbuds and a pair of headphones (i'm not sure if i'd prefer on-ear or over ear). Earbuds Budget: $50 eBay: Yes. Country: US Isolation: As good isolation as I can get while retaining comfort. Purpose: Music. Music Tastes: Different types of rock, electronic, and ambient music from 60's era to present. The softest it gets is Mazzy Star, the hardest is Led Zeppelin. In addition to those artists, I really like Pink Floyd, Jimi Hendrix, Yes, Grateful Dead, Daft Punk, Tame Impala, and Brian Eno. Headphones Budget: $150. eBay: Yes. Country: U.S. Isolation: Closed-air, and preferably high quality. I'm not sure whether I would find on-ear or over-ear more comfortable. Near-perfect isolation and up to 5 hour comfort are my priorities. Purpose: Most of all, for listening to music, but I'd also like them to work well for gaming and watching videos. Music Tastes: See above.
Budget: $75 ish eBay: Yes Country: US Isolation: Going to use these in public places so as much as possible while still being generally comfortable would be nice. 3 hour comfort would be a good range. Purpose: Music Music Tastes: EDM Previous Experiences: N/a Comments: I need wireless headphones or IEM's to use while working out or just in general public spaces. I would get some wireless headphones if I could use them with my computer in addition to working out if they would stay on my head while lifting. In the case of headphones I'd be willing to spend no more than $125; if headphones were the case then audio quality would also be a preference and isolation would be less of an issue. I'm just worried about IEM's falling out of my ears or being uncomfortable. I'm a bass head but I also like having clear mids and highs. Examples of music I like: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2xVOmmBEaBc https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YSGLSu0DU14 https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_EQ-Tsa8-w0 https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=SJyuqAgL1J4 https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DhqYIyvnAvA [editline]12th August 2014[/editline] These seem like a good option for IEM's, anyone have experience? In other headphone-related stuff, I resurrected my busted Grados by replacing the shitty default cables with a detachable, single-sided 3.5mm cable. I kind of melted the grate on the right one while opening it up, but I'm going to replace them anyway and sand off the paint. Sure beats buying a new set of headphones. You don't have to solder anything, I just wanted to post my project. All you need to do, unless I completely missed some straight HD380 cable that Sennheiser released, is buy a 2.5mm to 3.5mm adapter or cable and shave down the 2.5mm side so it fits in the headphones. Or just hit Ebay.

Can I replace the wire with a less stupid one?
Most headphones are wired basically the same. Unless you have detachable cables , you will have to disassemble the headphone's side with a wire and solder off old+ solder on new audio cable. You would probably need to solder on a jack too, they're sold separately specially for soldering. Or, get an audio cable extension or male/male whatever and just cut off one end. Mind that the cheapest cable extensions usually come with a rough unwielding rubber. Actual quality cables are sold in audio equipment stores along with separate jacks. Careful with soldering by yourself as a sloppy job may make the cable brittle and rip out at any sudden pulls. In general replacing cables should be done when the factory cable was damaged as the factory one will resist better to force. By the way, the number one cause of headphones breaking is the cable bending and tearing near one of it's ends, especially near the jack (fiddling with the damaged end may sometimes reanimate the damaged side for a moment). It's why you don't hear any sound in one ear. Cutting off the damaged portion and soldering on a new jack (if cut on the jack side) fixes that.
Can someone recommend me some decent headphones? Ideally looking to spend £80 or less, to be used for music and games. I wouldn't mind spending a little more if something of reasonably better quality was available. I'd rather not use ebay if I had to but it is an option. I would prefer closed headphones so long as they were comfy to wear for a few hours at a time.
Picked up some ath-m50s for 60€ with a coupon. Sounds great. Any recommended amp/dac for it max 100€ for now.
HARX700s are so good. My pair I bought like 2 years ago, decided they didn't fit my head, started using them again. They're the sturdiest pair of headphones I've ever used, they are sort of big and heavy but the big comfy piece pad that sits on your head distributes the weight really nicely. The ear cups are fake leather but it doesnt fall off nearly as easily as on the other headphones I've used which were mostly 50-100$. The adjustable head pad thing clicks into place really nice and doesn't move as easily as headphones with plastic head bands. they also have little nubs on the right side so you can tell which side is which. The cable is way better than any other and are lasting me a really long time considering I trash headphones a lot.
The sound leaves a bit to be desired, but still far better than I'd expect for $30. The whole construction and feel though is better than a lot of $100+ sets I've worn. I've got larger-than-average ears so the bigger size is great, and they're comfortable for 6+ hour sessions.
Hey, at 30 bucks you might as well not care about if it's a headset or not, just don't go buying the expensive ones which have more 1337 gamer marketing than quality.
The sound leaves a bit to be desired, but still far better than I'd expect for $30.
I also recently got HARX700s, and after using the HTF600s I found the sound to lack the clarity and punchiness I was used too, so I picked up the HARX900s and a FiiO E07K and I couldn't be happier for the price. the 700s are great for $30, but the 900s are worth the upgrade imo. I ditched the HTF600s because of their bad build quality, and they were starting to become less comfortable. However IMO they deliver crisper sound that the HARX700s, which kind of makes it a sound quality versus build quality/longevity choice between the two as entry headphones.

I've trashed numerous sets so I decided to go with build quality. Probably will just migrate them to my workbench once I upgrade
Does anyone have any idea if I can buy replacement ear cups for my AKG k550's? mine are wearing away and i cant find anywhere that sells them S:

Hey guys, could use a little help here. I've been looking at Audio-Technica's ATH-M40xs, but before I commit I want to be sure I can't do any better for my budget. My budget is ~ $110. If it comes to it, I don't want to go any higher than $120 max. Purpose: General listening and fairly-serious composition (so probably a pair that is rather neutral?) Taste: 99% of the time I'll be listening to electronic music. Lyrics here and there. A bit of oriental-ish stuff from time to time and, more rarely, classical. One of the reasons I've been looking at the MTH40xs is the detachable wire. My experience with my current pair of headphones (Bose AE2s) has left me extremely paranoid and the detachable wire isn't something I want to let go of.
So uh...people don't seem to actually give much headphone buying guidance here. Can we start making threads for this shit?

So I've been using this Mixamp Pro for a couple of months and it's good, nice boost of volume for my PS4 but it could be even louder. I'm just wondering, I had an offer for my Mixamp where I could sell it and add £20 extra to get the Fiio E17. I was thinking of trading in for the E17 as it does optical output but will also drive my modded fostex a lot more. I still feel my mixamp pro lacks volume for general PC use when listening to music, just like my xonar dx sound card. Is it worth it to do this?
https://www.massdrop.com/buy/akg-q701-audiophile-headphones?mode=guest_open AKG Q701's are dropping again at Massdrop for $149.

I'll throw them some cash.
I just bought the Soundmagic E10 Earbuds for $30 on Amazon. Came with a shit ton of extra eartips and a compact carrying case. And damn--the sound is fucking great. I'm noticing stuff in songs that I've never heard before, and the bass and melody have a great, powerful balance. The sound-cancelling is great too. It's good shit. I recommend these earbuds.
Talking about earbuds. Does anyone know a great pair with microphone (Mobile use)? [editline]21st August 2014[/editline] I like keeping it around $50 maximum, but I'm interested if they have any kind of fancyness in the higher price range:v:
What's a good microphone that can pick up my voice clearly from half a metre away or so?
My Samson Go Mic is constantly around 2.5 feet away and people can hear me whisper clearly. I'd definitely recommend it.
So, a friend of mine showed me his pair of Bose headphones a while back, decided I should do some research before buying an actually decent pair of headphones. My budget is around that price give or take $30, (for both headset and amp, if needed), mostly going to be used for music, and some gaming. Any suggestions?
What genres of music? And at that price you won't need an amp.
I've found several things between my last post and this one. Most importantly, more budget! $300 now. Genres: rock, electronic, post rock, shoe gaze mostly, but also a bit of everything else. Would prefer closed headphones due to loud enviroment. Output sources: current: MSI GT60 laptop, samsung note 2. Soon: Asus Maximus VII impact's semi-discrete sound card Currently looking at the V-moda m-100s, but I'm going to be testing out some senhisers and beyers soon. Other discoveries: This is not too far a drive from me: http://www.headphonebar.com/ This has been very useful: http://www.head-fi.org/a/headphone-buying-guide
