how about rock and punk rock? are they just good for everything?
yes

I don't really understand the 'headphones for x' thing, if I like the way a headphone sounds, I enjoy it with all my music.
HTF-600 have a pretty wide soundstage (basically a large 'surround sound effect') which is great for games, though.

I wouldn't buy ad700s to listen to drum and bass considering they don't have much sub bass for example.

There are special cases with very unique sounding headphones such as Grado's.
Budget: ~$20-40 USD
eBay: No
Country: USA
Isolation: No
Purpose: Commuting, sleeping.
Music Tastes: Anything and nothing
Previous Experiences: Dollar store IEMs, AD700
Comments: Needs to be in-ear monitor. Sound quality is not the issue here because I commute with 64kbps Pandora streams. Needs to be low key and relatively cheap. Also, probably the most important part, it needs to be comfortable enough that I can sleep on my side with my head pressed against the pillow while wearing them.
gonna get a xonar dg for about a tenner

didn't get it </3
Every time I've bought a pair of earphones I've had 'em short out or generally break. Anyone know a good pair of good-sounding, cheap earphones? (<$25?)
I wish more earphones used tough cables like the xtreme xplosives series
they broke only because they got ran over by a longboard
Are headphones even better for games than speakers?
I'd say so. Since speakers are usually in front or behind you you don't get the same feeling of hearing gunshots and stuff. If you're wearing headphones and someone shoots a bullet just right of you you can usually have an easier time figuring out the direction of where the gun was fired. With speakers everything is really... Frontal.

those don't look any more durable to me than a regular pair of earphones you can pick up at walmart, what's special about them?

Sony MDR-E818LP
I found these at Shoppers Drug Mart for like $30 and then I found them at a Sony Store for $15 with the price marked down to $9.99.
So how are these? I know they are like 5 years old.

I kinda like those kind of earbuds, I don't like in-ear...

I am the same way. You should look at the bose earbuds. They are heaven in your ears. They look odd, and are somewhat confusing at first, but they are amazingly comfortable, and actually stay in your ears.

Is there a list of brands to check them out and stay away from anywhere?
Need headphones with mic for around 30-40€
Wat do.
Needs more details if possible, but these are a good choice if you can increase your budget slightly.

I'd prefer if the headphones had a frame, because I'll be using them mainly for gaming.

Not entirely sure I understand your question, but here is a link to the ones I was talking about. They aren't the best sounding for the price, but the comfort is unmatched. Well made as well.

I have these and they are great. If you do get them for gaming, I recommend you pick up a sound card (I have a Xonar Dg that is about $25) that supports Dolby Surround. It is virtual surround sound that is actually really nice with these. I also noticed that they sounded noticeably better with the Xonar.
But I dont like in-ear...
I got these Beats Jamz for free and I didn't like how it felt in my ears and it ALWAYS fell out. Probably because it was heavy but yeah.

Beats are pretty shitty, but they shouldn't fall out of your ears.
probably need the larger size ear pieces (or maybe smaller if they weren't in all the way)

Reposting. When I say cheap I just mean I don't want to jump to like $50. ;D

All of the others I have tried fall out of my ears too, but those fit quite well. One of my friends had a pair. He was listening to music on his laptop, and somehow his laptop fell with the headphone jack pointing towards the floor. The cord ripped out of the jack and the headphones stayed in his ears.

I tried all of the sizes, it didn't work out. I ended up trading it to a friend a long time ago for a Sennheiser HD 418.
