I'm from Germany and while they do have a German sales partner, their price is $60... excluding shipping.
edit: I could probably buy a Zalman but I'd prefer having a microphone next to my mouth.
edit2: Eh, actually. That probably isn't too bad. Might have to look into the Modmic more to see if the price is justified tho.
edit4: Just bought the stuff:
Beyerdynamic DT-770 PRO, 250Ω
Modmic v4
ASUS Xonar U5
Hey guys Ive just ordered Audio Technica Ath-Pro700Mk2 Im wondering if I did any good pick my friend PieClock here on FP suggested it for me beceuse I like good bass and I just went with it im pretty darn excited for it to arrive.
I have couple more important questions, id like to use a mic with it and im not sure what to get. A clipper would be preferable any suggestions? nothing fancy but it needs to be durable.
And do I need anything else to run this beast? an DAC? or amp or whatever they use these days ive always had shitty headsets and I think I learned my lesson after breaking them going broke after every year or 2 due sloppy build qaulity. If so could you recommend me exact models beceuse I know litterly nothing about headphones and amps and all. I dont even know how much they would go for and that dont matter im willing to drop good money on these things aslong it performs as good as it gets.

I usually see people recommending the Zalman ZM-MIC1. It's affordable (~5€) and the audio quality seems to be quite good.

for a clip-on mic, either get the Zalman Clip-On mic, or the AntLion Mod Mic 4.0.
you don't need an amp for the Pro700Mk2, but if your onboard audio is crap, you're going to need a DAC. will make everything sound better.

Alright thanks! That pretty much sums up what I needed to know. your the best guys!
How is the ATH-M40x? It looks like a cheaper ATH-M50x, but what was downgraded?
says its 38 ohms so you should be good
edit: apparently the earpads for the pro700 are the same size as the m50s so id reccomend picking up hm5 or xpt100 earpads since those fit from what i hear
Budget 80$

Music Anything and everything
After reading more about it, I decided to cave and get a clip-on mic.
Now I just need decent headphones. I do occasionally listen to music, but it's mostly foreign pop.
I just ordered the Sennheiser 518's for $79, dunno how it'll be though. They've got great reviews.
I've seen quite a few people raving about the akg k 240's and they're going for $79.73 on amazon if you wanted to check them out. Note that they're semi-open cans, so sound does bleed out a little from them.

The drivers themselves are a little smaller, the cups can only rotate 90 degrees rather than the full 180 degrees of the m50x, I've also heard that the m40x has a more neutral tone than the m50x's, but I've never used a pair myself. Now as someone with a pair of M50x's, I can tell you that the m50x's headphones have superb isolation (You will not be having conversations with these on), and the bass is really punchy and solid, but not too heavy. The mids and highs are crisp and clear, but highs can become a little exhausting after prolonged listening periods.
This guy explains the differences between the tiers of headphones in a little more detail if you don't mind watching the 14 minute video.

a much better bang for your buck than the m50x. but the earpads still suck ass so get the brainwavz hm5 pads.

also i should really buy an open-back headphone for myself since i've never owned one before... thinking between the takstar hi2050 and the grado sr60e.

That's a pretty good comparison video, I might consider the M40x now since it's a bit cheaper.
How's the build quality on the m40x? I don't want to drop $100 and then have the headband break after 6 months.
Ok guys, I'm still considering the M50x but since I'm in Canada, it will cost an ass load more if I buy it locally. Although I found this link http://www.amazon.com/Audio-Technica-ATH-M50x-Professional-Monitor-Headphones/dp/B00JZRXWRW/ref=pd_cp_MI_0 and it comes with a $30 amp (I don't have any DAC or amp at the moment so I guess this can be called a starter kit for me). This is the only one I found on Amazon USA that will ship to Canada while the other ones without the amp won't. Now if I throw in the 13% sales tax (customs) and get it shipped to Toronto, it's about $189. Shipping is free because Amazon Prime. What's great is that ~$189 I'd be spending is the same amount it costs to buy in Canada but at it's base price without the 13% HST. If you add the sales tax if I was to buy in Canada, it would cost ~$213. I'd be saving ~$25 and get an amp in the process.
Those Fiio amps are pretty okay, but they're not a DAC. They take an analog signal from your source and make it louder, they don't convert the digital source to analog.
Very important distinction, that.

hence why I wrote it was a $30 amp and not DAC

I love my K 240's, and I'd recommend them if someone's looking for reasonably priced neutral headphones. Really comfortable, and can take a beating. Might want an amp if you plan on using them for phones though, especially if you like listening to music loud. Oh, and they are huge.
And to anyone who's buying a clip mic, I posted this solution in the past. Use Gear Ties to move the mic in front of your mouth for the best quality sound.

I heard that Audio-Technica stuff is made for music, but are they good for gaming aswell?

My set of M50x's are hella comfy and can transmit sounds like footsteps very clearly if that's what you mean. They're also a musical powerhouse if you listen to a lot of music and media as well. Now if you want a mic, pretty much everyone on on this forum recommends getting a separate mic because headsets mics are usually not the best quality.

That's good to know. I've already got a Modmic I can just transfer over. I'll probably look into the m40x when my current headphones truly die.
If you were planning on getting open ear cans, I hear that the ATH AD series is worth looking into. That is if you don't mind sound bleeding out and looking like something out of a bad sci-fi flick. (and even though they lack detachable cables, which is a big no-no in my book, I've heard some pretty crazy things about the AD900x's and been oogling them for quite some time now)
These 518's are comfy as hell. They don't even touch my ears.

Great, so Steam can't handle the microphone input of the U5. Skype, Teamspeak, etc. All working as intended. And apparently this problem has been known for like half a year now.
Budget: 35 Euro/ ~42 usd, upper ceiling is 40 Euro if really worth it
eBay: Ok
Country: Latvia
Isolation: Doesn't matter
Purpose: General (gaming, media...)
Music Tastes: Digital/Electronic, Rock
Previous Experiences: Cheap 2-5 Euro headsets. One of them was great, had clear sound and decent mic but it died after over 3 years of use. Bought same brand but they swapped the driver and new ones sound like shit and very muffled.
Comments: Cheaper is better, budget should include shipping. Already have a mic so no need for that.
