By the way, I read around that the 770's do well after being broken in for a day or two, any specific tips regarding this?
Ehh, don't bother. The whole idea of "breaking in" is controversial anyway, to say the least, and if it's real, just using them like normal will break them in too.
Yeah just use them like normal. If you really want to go full placebo then listen to them for a bit when you first get them, then leave them playing overnight and see if it makes any difference.
Hey now iirc there's a single headphone that's shown to have a noticeable difference after break in. :v:
If we're thinking of the same thing it just seemed like he hadn't calibrated his mics properly for it.
If we're thinking of the same thing it just seemed like he hadn't calibrated his mics properly for it.
I can't remember enough of it to find it again, but it was a signature graph of a bunch of different headphones for burn in tests on headfi. Only one showed any sort of hearable difference.
My ears are about average size and the M50x do hurt them a little after a few hours - not a major problem for me but if you care about comfort, they're not for you. Sennheiser 5x8 are very comfortable - they're incredibly lightweight and, well, airy, so they don't feel tight or make you sweat at all. But, like all open-backs, they're completely unusable for commuting. Closed-back headphones are gonna clamp tightly and get hot, there's no way around that. But they don't have to have small cups. My other pair of closed cans, Shure SRH840, don't get cramped at all. So for closed cans, just look at how big they are. If they're as small as the M50x, they're probably not for you.
Wound up getting the M50x and they fit like a charm (very plushy and soft cups, too). They're a tad on the heavier side, but it's nothing unbearable (I'll just wind up with a ripped neck soon :v: ). They sound fantastic, isolation is fantastic; very happy with them.
I noticed something with my Momentum In-Ears. At night in total silence I can hear a very distracting and annoying low frequency buzzing. Happens plugged into any device, and never happened on my previous cheaper pair or my headphones. You can't hear it at all during the day over general life noise, even in quiet spaces. But at night, in silence, it's pretty loud. Is it worth taking it and asking for an exchange? Listening in bed is like 50% of what I'll do and it's unbearable. The problem being that I won't be able to demonstrate this issue to them. (It's a specialized store and they'd wanna hear it but they almost definitely won't be able to)
Don't they have an enclosed (more or less soundproof) listening room?

any recommendation on a 598 replacement? the pads and headband are fucked on mine preferably not overear as the reason im replacing them is i had a scaffold fitted and dont know if i could comfortably wear them with fresh pads. i was thinking grado because the cheapest grado's are more than half the price of hd600's and almost the same quality
That's probably your sources combined with the sensitivity of the momentums.
are you sure? no other pair of headphones or earphones has produced this noise, on all the same sources. the sound is consistent on everything [editline]4th May 2015[/editline]
any recommendation on a 598 replacement? the pads and headband are fucked on mine preferably not overear as the reason im replacing them is i had a scaffold fitted and dont know if i could comfortably wear them with fresh pads. i was thinking grado because the cheapest grado's are more than half the price of hd600's and almost the same quality
how did they get fucked i don't understand? i've owned mine for about 5 years and they show almost no signs of wear other than minor splitting in the head rest's leather
-snip, thought it was hardware buying megathread-
just constant use, the headband isnt so bad and the wrap around covers i have seen would be ok there on the earpads the velvety cover material has separated on the inside so the foam no longer holds it proper shape, they are still wearable but not as comfortable
Does it damage speakers when they "pop" as you turn them off? Every evening when I shutdown for the night my speakers pop, I always make sure my PC is switched off before I turn them off however they always seem to make a noise (I connect my speakers to a soundcard using a 3.5 jack)
Oy guys, I need a sub 50$ headset. Nothing fancy, nothing with surround or anything, just a plain headset tha covers the ears and doesn't make my ears hurt after a while. [editline]6th May 2015[/editline] I'm looking at amazon and it's all this stupid "gaming gear" and they all look like they were designed for some cheapass sci-fi show. I just want a simple headset, nothing fancy.

I'd personally recommend spending a bit more and going for the Siberia v2.
I don't really need good headphones, just a headset for the occasional online game
Then just get a Creative Fatality.
Then just get a Creative Fatality.
Those things are absolutely awful and I wouldn't wish them on anyone. [editline]6th May 2015[/editline]
I don't really need good headphones, just a headset for the occasional online game
The problem is you're going to get shit quality for the money with a headset, especially at that budget. You could pick something up like the JVC HARX700's and a Zalman mic that clips onto the headphone cord right at the base.
Budget: Up to $350 AUD ($280 US Dollar) eBay: Yes Country: Australia Isolation: Circumaural, closed air. Purpose: Gaming - I would like a pair that is good for music though. Music Tastes: Electronic music, drum and bass, the Smiths, 90s music. (a bit of everything really) Previous Experiences: Turtle Beach PX5s - These were good and I liked the surround sound feature. The issue was that the model wasn't "officially supported" for PC by the manufacturers, so the microphone was terrible. Also, there is a ridiculous "sound gate" feature which means that very quiet sounds don't get picked up by the speakers. Other pluses were AA battery support, optical port support (which means PS3, 360 support) and pretty good sound quality for my ears. Also, I have big ears and the cups were perfectly large enough to cover them. Comments: They have to be wireless. Whether they are "gaming" headphones or not I don't mind, I just want support for my consoles. (optical port support i think is the best way to achieve this) (also, does "gaming" just mean it has a microphone? I don't care if it doesn't have a microphone)

Wireless headphones are almost universally utter penis. I'd recommed getting some nice speakers rather than wireless headphones if you really cannot stand having a singular wire going to your ear.
Honestly, I was happy with mine. They allow me to me to move around the house while listening to music, and I could watch movies from my PC from my couch. I could use speakers but I am polite and don't want to disturb the other people in my house most of the time. What's the problem with them? Pops and interference? This was rarely an issue for me. Sound quality? I get that it would probably cost more for a pair of wireless headphones than a pair of wired headphones with equivalent quality, but price isn't really an issue. Unless it is just plain impossible to find a pair with decent quality, but IMO my PX5s were fine. What is a wireless adapter? something that goes into my shirt pocket? I suppose I could live with this depending on the lag and how chunky the device is.
I'd personally recommend spending a bit more and going for the Siberia v2.
Am using Sibera v2's right now. It's like wearing a clamp and it rubs my ears raw.

I need new earbuds. Any recommendations? Budget 90 dollars or so
I need new earbuds. Any recommendations? Budget 90 dollars or so
Shure SE215 for warm, bassy sound or VSonic GR07 for slightly bright but actually neutral sound. They are both $100 instead of 90, but I'd say the extra $10 is worth it.
