You're either looking at a modmic or a desktop mic and some tape.
I have a pair of Sennheiser headphones that sound great (I use them when I DJ) that I use for gaming. They don't have a mic on them, so I'm looking for a mic. My budget is about $50. I would prefer a detachable boom mic over a desktop mic, but I'm open to suggestions. What would be some good mics to look into?
There is an Antlion Modmic available on Massdrop right now. but estimated ship date is July 3, 2015, unless you want it really bad you can try to find one somewhere else.
i've been eyeballing the Audio-Technica M70x but at the same time I want to get an open back headphone from AT as well so hard to decide...
I have a pair of AD900x's and I'm enjoying them a lot more than my M50x's. They're lighter, more comfortable, and the sound stage is huge.
I have a pair of AD900x's and I'm enjoying them a lot more than my M50x's. They're lighter, more comfortable, and the sound stage is huge.
yeah but the M70x sounds very different from the M50x. I'll see if I can get an Oppo PM-3 though.
My AD500x's are the most comfortable pair of cans I own, and they sound really great. Still have to give them a try on my Modi+Magni 2 combo.
After I finish my build I'm considering picking up Beyer DT880 250ohm Pro. Any opinions on it?

Very comfortable. Some people say that it sounds dull though. If you prefer a warmer sounding headphone go with the Sennheiser HD 650 or Philips Fidelio X2.

I'll probably pick up a modmic to replace my zalman too. I think I'll pick up an e10k for the amp side. I know it's not the greatest, but I've got an e17 I bought for my laptop that I don't really use anymore.
So I'm looking for cheapish on ear/full ear headphones with a removable cable. Anyone have a recommendation? ideally <50USD. The removable cable is really since I found out that's the piece that always dies on me.
Now I'm kinda thinking DT 770 250 ohm pro, modmic, e09k. [editline]14th June 2015[/editline] Nevermind, 880 is only $36 more and is open
I ended up getting the modmic. It looks like the best option for a detachable boom mic.
I'm thinking of picking up a pair of HD 558s or 598s, and I'm wondering if the price difference is worth it. Does anybody have experience with these?

I own the HD595s which had the same thing when it was the HD595s and HD555's. Personally I prefer the Takstar Hi2050's over the 595s because I'm convinced they're veiled as hell.
The 518 also has the same drivers

In any case the difference in sound between unmodded 558s and 598s is already pretty damn small, so it really comes down to which one looks better to you and whether you're willing to pay extra for style.

Fostex TH900 are still the world's best looking headphone though
Fostex TH900 are still the world's best looking headphone though
Not at all.

I think my Q701's are ugly as sin but dat sound doe.
Looking to buy a pair of closed ear headphones. My brother gave me a few alternatives; Sennheiser Momentum or AKG K551 Gonna primarly use them for gaming and music. Music taste could be condensed into metal. Price doesn't really matter, I'd rather pay a few extra darrah and get a good pair that will last me a long time. Current headset is a Siberia V2 which have lasted me 4 years. Any opinions?
sennheiser hd 800? 1) those are $1500 2) they are open, so lol. whats your budget?
Oh wow, probably got the number all wrong on that one. Budget is perhaps max $250?
Oh wow, probably got the number all wrong on that one. Budget is perhaps max $250?
Then I would recommend the Beyerdynamic DT 770 250 ohm with a JDS Labs cmoy amp.
Then I would recommend the Beyerdynamic DT 770 250 ohm with a JDS Labs cmoy amp.
I'm pretty sure a separate amp is way too overkill for me, I'm not really an audiophile at all. You sure I need one? I also only got a builtin soundboard in my motherboard, which I've heard is pretty shit if you want good sound quality.

But in total this combo is $250 (you can get the DT770 for much less money if you're okay with buying used.)

Got myself an Audio Technica ATH-M50x which was on a discount. I've never been much into proper audio, but my previous headphones died of acute plasticky crappiness so I figured I'd get myself a proper pair for once. (they were of the brand "Goji") [thumb]http://puu.sh/ixisr.png[/thumb] Really nice pair of headphones, audio is much clearer and uhh different from anything I've ever heard before. Hard to put it into words. I can hear things in music that I didn't hear before. Audio cable is interchangeable, which is really nice because the audio cables always die first.. well, that said, the three audio cables that came with it are like 3 times the normal thickness so I think they'll last for quite a while :v: Fun fact: a couple of the reviewers complained about it being a bit too warm "so don't wear it outside" Well.. try living north of the polar circle :v:
