Budget: $500
eBay: preferably not
Country: United States
Isolation: Open
Purpose: Music listening, video games.
Music Tastes: Electronic, classical, dub, jazz, a little bit of everything except metal.
Previous Experiences: ATH M50x's, AD 900x's, Philips SHP 9500's, Sennheiser Momentum R1's, NVX XPT 100's, Brainwavz Delta's.
Comments: I'm curious about the "planar sound" and Hifiman seemed like my best bet for the price range if I purchase used. My source is the odac/o2 combo. Any recommendations or tidbits you guys can offer are appreciated!
Here's the selection of HFM cans I'm choosing between
He400 ~ $250
He400s ~ $ 250
He400i ~ $425
He500 ~ $500
If you want the planar sound, don't get the HE400S. They have rolled off bass and sound more like a dynamic headphone. The original HE400 has very good bass, but the treble has issues. HE400i is solid overall, and HE500 is the best sounding out of all of them, but also the heaviest. If you're gonna get the HE500, I recommend getting the Focus pads, or even the MrSpeakers Alpha Pads.
I'm looking for comfortable earbuds shaped like,

I would just buy earpods but I don't need the remote/mic since AFAIK it won't work with my LG G2 anyway
Yuin PK3/PK2 are good. Don't let anyone tell you that all earbuds sound like shit
@KangarooSteak forget what I said about the 400S, Z posted his review on it a few hours ago:

Oh damn, I've been waiting on this review for a while, thanks!
I've also decided to save up my money and go for TOTL, to hopefully curb my headphone buying spree for a long time.
Looking at you Audeze LCD 2! (or ZMF Omni!)
Is there really no good successor for Sony MDR XB500 headphones? I and my some of my friends all bought those ~4 years ago when they were highly recommended, but they now have lot of wear and tear damage. All current Sony headphones are either too expensive or on ear type which is terrible.
XB500's were 35 euros when we got them. 50 is prolly the max I would pay for new headphones, but they have to be very comparable to my old ones.
So my 5 year old HD555's broke (they still work but one ear completely snapped off and is being held together with duct tape) and I'm in the market for a new pair.
I'd like to stay with Sennheiser. Are there any that are pretty much just like the HD555, since they don't sell them anymore? Open air preferred but it doesn't matter too much.
Around the same price range as well. Would like to buy from Newegg. Amazon is fine as well.

Try the 558's. Pretty much the replacement model.

Okay good luck. I've heard good things about the ZMF Omni, some even saying that it's better than the LCD-2
Fuck, i wanted to buy a pair of philips shp9500s but they've been discontinued so they're like 150+ bucks everywhere. Apparently, X2's are being discontinued as well (philips has stopped selling them to retailers).
what the fuck are they smoking, everyone's been buying them like hot cakes
are they just sitting there fucking donkeys and smoking crack saying "cancel this, cancel that"
Are you serious I haven't had a chance to pick up a pair yet. Fuck me.
what the fuck are they smoking, everyone's been buying them like hot cakes

They might be replacing them with new ones. SHP10k? X3?
would be strange for them to get rid of popular pairs before their successors were released
The fact that they discontinued the SHP9500 makes me kind of pissed...
On the bright side, new Audio-Technica Art series closed headphones have been announced, with the A500Z, A900Z, A1000Z and A2000Z.
The FiiO E6 would be a great small portable amp for you. If you like portability and bass maybe the sennheiser urbanites? They look/sound great, and both the items should be under 150 euros altogether.
Edit: Okay after doing more research the Urbanites may be a little more expensive than I thought. I'll look for another pair of headphones you may enjoy. Still though the E6 would be a great amp for you.
Woop my Fiio E6 came in today, great little thing! Ok, for portable headphones, as much as I've seen around, jackshit from here cause audio store is slowly dying out and doesn't import anything other than AKG/Audioquest Diamondillium cables/JBL Synchros, I guess I'll have to travel a bit
Recommend me earbuds that are very durable, but can also be found at stores like BestBuy, department stores, etc.
My 598s are great, but aren't to personal in public since everyone can hear my eurobeat.
[editline]14th October 2015[/editline]
I prefer to get these in stores for some easy accessibility. Everything from online here takes at least 1 and a half weeks to get here.
Looking for a recommendation on a nice pair of headphones:
Price range - $0-$80, preferably not much more than that.
ebay-preferably not
country-U.S.
Isolation: open
purpose: music, vidjagams
musical tastes - lots of different stuff
previous experiences: Sony MDR - RF925R wireless headphones (wireless not a necessity) - they sound good, but wireless causes a sort of hissing sound if there's interference and they're pretty bulky. other than that, various cheap headphones
I'm looking for anything that has a nice, balanced sound: I like a good frequency range, without too much exaggeration of either end. The sound quality is a big thing for me, I don't really want to spend a bunch of money if it's not going to be any better than what I have. I'm curious about open-back headphones too, I've heard they sound loads better than closed headphones. I'd also like something comfortable - I was hoping to get the SHP9500's, but since they were discontinued I can't find any in my price range anymore.
I'm looking for a new headset, mostly for gaming, but I don't want to buy them online since I need to actually try it on before knowing whether I want to get it, so I'd just like some recommendations on what brands are good and won't break within less than a year (I've had a really bad track record with headsets so far) and aren't stupidly overpriced and what brands to completely avoid.
Answered my own question, somewhat. I narrowed down my preferences to either the AKG K240 and the Sennheiser HD518. Can anyone who owns either of these tell me the pros and cons of them? And possibly which one would be a better choice?

I absolutely love my 518's for the price. They're quite lightweight, and really breathable. The cups are also fairly deep if your ears stick out a bit like mine. The cable is nice and long, plus it's removable which means easy to replace if it goes bad. I've never used the AKG's so I can't say much on them, but they're only semi-open. I like the Sennheiser design more from a comfort perspective than the "cans on a band" design of the AKG's.
Cool. How's the sound? Is it fairly balanced or are some frequency ranges more pronounced than others?
Cool. How's the sound? Is it fairly balanced or are some frequency ranges more pronounced than others?
I mean it's obviously more bassy than reference headphones, but they're a great balance for someone who wants a pair of budget general purpose headphones. It's not muddy at all, nice and clean (for the price/impedance) and they can get pretty loud while retaining those qualities.
Would this be the place to ask a more general audio question or should I just make a Help thread for it?
I suppose it's as good as any, as long as it's about audio technology. Speaking of which, would this be the right place to ask for recommendations for computer speakers?

I guess I'll go ahead and ask then.
I just got a new monitor with multiple inputs so I've brought my old 360 over to my desk.
Is there a way to split the audio or maybe just pipe the audio from the 360 to my PC so I can get audio from both to my PC headphones?

Thanks for the suggestions.
After some more research I found some guys that wanted to do the same thing and from what I can understand I just use one of these and run it through my Line In.
That sound like it should work?

That should work if you are doing video on RCA as well. Or if you have some other way of splitting off the RCA from the video.
what are the best cheap over ear headphones nowadays? the panasonic rp-htf600s are discontinued.
