don't buy it, no matter what. It's a waste of money unless you're paying $60, maybe $70 for it.
I highly recommend the Logitech G500. Macro buttons. Smooth scrolling toggle. Sensitivity buttons. Weight cartridge, so you can choose what is comfortable to you.
Best mouse I've ever owned.
Well, I don't know what you were looking up. Give me a link to them both if you have the time, as a Google search only brings up the latest and greatest in outdated pieces of junk. The Deathadder looks nice.. And if I remember correctly, there's actually one set up on demo at a nearby electronics store. I'll have to go and give it a try. [editline]14th July 2011[/editline] The G700 looks like complete overkill for me buttonwise, unless I was playing something where I need a ton of buttons and wanted to replace some of the keyboard actions.
lol no, there's a reason several of the best quake players in the world use those mice the "garbage" you're seeing is exactly what you should be seeing, if you want to fall into marketing gimmicks and the common pubber's opinion go ahead
WHAT IS AUTOMERGE. Speaking of the Steelseries, It's actually a lot nicer than I originally thought. It still lacks some buttons that I'm really looking for, but I could probably set up the two buttons on the right side of the mouse to do that job. Very nice. [editline]13th July 2011[/editline] I'm curious, has anyone ever actually tried one of these things? It's a tad bit rediclous, but it's just interesting looking.
I have one. It may look extremely cheap and funny, but It's surprisingly sturdy. I love it.

It is comfortable and all, friend had it. Well, still has but it is broken.
In order of price: MX518/G400, G500, Xai IIRC, don't get the G500 if you use a soft mat as it only tracks near perfectly on hard
The MX518 has built in correction for its sensor and many people don't like the grip, if you really want the best gaming mouse you'll go for the WMO, IMO 1.1, or the IMO 3.0. I was surprised when I found that the people with the best aim (the top CSS players or top Quake players) prefer these cheap Microsoft mice, but after reading a bit, I found out why. Not only are they cheap, but they are reliable, optical (which means they can handle high velocities better than laser mice), and weigh less. They all use the same sensor which is 400 DPI, which may seem low but they actually prefer playing at low DPI even if they use mice that support higher DPI because they generally play at low sensitivities at which DPI becomes a lot less important, and in fact high DPI can make it harder to aim since human error becomes multiplied. The difference between those three mice is that the IMO 1.1 has extra side buttons compared to the WMO, and the IMO 3.0 has even more side buttons but is right-handed rather than ambidextrous. If someone doesn't believe me, take a look at this guide: http://www.eve-films.com/forum/showthread.php?40381-FraGTaLiTy-s-Epic-Gaming-Mice-Guide-for-PC-Shooting-Games That said, if you hate Microsoft mice because you think they're ugly or you're stupid, the Abyssus, Xai, DeathAdder, and G500 are decent as well.
I currently use the G9x. It's perfect for everything I'm doing. For me, as long as it has the 2 thumb buttons, I'm very happy. I haven't pressed the Back/Forward button in Internet Browsers for years.

I could easily go and grab one just to try it out. [editline]14th July 2011[/editline] Also, if a Lightweight, low DPI mouse is honestly the best option, I still have the beast. I find mice work a lot better just sitting on a table.
Are you a claw or a palm grip player. I for one am a claw gripper and the G9X is perfect for me. If your more a palmer, go with something like the G500 or the Xai. You can't do much wrong with Logitech or Steelseries.
Logitech G700. Wired or Wireless Choose Your Poison

(Aka palm grip)
Get the G9x.

I was really sceptical of getting a "gaming" mouse before, but I got my Mx518 in May and honestly love it to bits. Also, if you're scared at that many side buttons, look at the Razer Naga... I honestly don't know how it is possible to hit the one you intend to hit on that thing...
That thing's got a scary amount of buttons on the side.
They're useful for FPS's if you remap them to general actions such as reloading, scoreboard, drop weapon, etc etc
I'd recommend something from Razer. In my experience Steelseries products are no so great in the quality department, and Logitech mice aren't the best performance wise.
g400 or a deathadder, the g500 has a wonky scroll button and the side buttons can be annoying for some people. the g400 however still has the angle snapping issue that the mx518 had. Note that the deathadder might not work after maybe 2 years of usage, razer products are notorious for having short lifespans, but it's a great mouse
Funnily enough my deathadder's left click started going haywire about two years after I bought it. The ergonomic quality of their mice is some of the best though.
They're useful for FPS's if you remap them to general actions such as reloading, scoreboard, drop weapon, etc etc
Yeah, I can see how they could be quite useful for all sorts of things, Especially reloading. Just wouldn't want to bring up the scoreboard 4 times while trying to swap weapons.
It depends on what games you're playing as well. In CS, people prefer the IMO 3.0 because it has two extra side buttons that they need, whereas in Quake people prefer the WMO which has no side buttons but weighs less. Interesting how I say it how it is on the last page while no one acknowledges that these gaming mice that they're suggesting are mostly gimmicks. If you want sidebuttons so badly, get the IMO 3.0, which not only has two side buttons but also has the same great sensor as the WMO. If you're gonna use an optical mouse, you'll want to use a mousepad.
When do you need a mousepad and when do you not need it?

It's nice, extremely adjustable.... yet it feels as though I'm going to break it. I like the more solid feel of my G500 much better. The sniper button is useful. (Changes DPI to like 3) I vote for G500.
Do yourself a favor and get something simple, yet extremely fucking awesome SteelSeries Ikari Laser I personally hate those super "leet gamer" looking mice.

I was looking at it yesterday. Not bad looking, either. And it doesn't matter to me how it looks, just how it works. I really need to find a display model somewhere and give it a good squeeze. .......
