Imagine being somewhere without Internet and cellphone signal, and you want to wiki some something. That's where this thing comes in.
Need that wiki when your stuck in the middle of the woods with no idea what to do eh.
Need that wiki when your stuck in the middle of a lead-lined containment cell, in a nuclear submarine with no idea what to do eh.
Fixed.
Need that wiki when your stuck in the middle of the woods with no idea what to do eh.
Exactly. How can i find north. I have no idea. What food can i eat
Exactly. How can i find north. I have no idea. What food can i eat
If you can't find north I doubt you would even be able to operate a piece of electronic equipment.
It's be super cool if you could plug it to a internet connected PC and update it regularly. But still, it's awesome. What about the languages - is it only English?
If you can't find north I doubt you would even be able to operate a piece of electronic equipment.
I don't know how to find north (without a wiki search) but i can easily use a computer. Face it, we're dependent on technology.
And if you don't need a phone for it you don't need the Wiki reader for it.
That makes no sense. That's like saying if I don't need a multifunction printer with a scanner, photocopier and fax, then I don't need a printer.
$99? Lol.
That makes no sense. That's like saying if I don't need a multifunction printer with a scanner, photocopier and fax, then I don't need a printer.
That's exactly what I'm saying. Well done.
That's exactly what I'm saying. Well done.
uh
uh
Disregarding the "that makes no sense" bit of course.
There are loads of wikipedia browsing apps like this on the appstore
Are they local or off of the internet?
That's exactly what I'm saying. Well done.
Well then you're saying something that makes no sense. Well done.
Or I could use wifi on my iphone and read it up for free?
Or I could use wifi on my iphone and read it up for free?
You're not reading it for free. You paid for the phone and you're paying a monthly payment.
Well then you're saying something that makes no sense. Well done.
Two posts up from yours. Gogogo.
You're not reading it for free. You paid for the phone and you're paying a monthly payment.
I'm paying for many features, I'm able to use one of the features to view the site. Rather I view it or not, I am paying the same price, so using wikipedia itself is free.
Two posts up from yours. Gogogo.
Just because you "disregarded" the part of my post where I said you make no sense doesn't mean the content of your post actually makes sense. You're saying this: If I do not need a package as a whole, then I do not need any part of that package. That's completely senseless. Now either you're a troll or a fucking idiot if you can't understand that just because I do not need every single feature of a MFC doesn't mean I do not need a printer, and the same applies to a phone and its ability to read wikipedia. I don't need a phone. I don't need to make calls in remote locations where human beings do not live - The places where I do need to make calls either have payphones, or have houses nearby in case of emergency. That doesn't mean I'm not interested in everything a phone offers, including browsing wikipedia. It just means I wouldn't want to pay extra (and monthly, too) just so I can browse wikipedia *and* do a bunch of additional shit I don't care about. Now go ahead and make some funny "own/pwnt rofl gogogo" statement if you want, kid, but don't act like you're actually making any hint of sense.
I'm paying for many features, I'm able to use one of the features to view the site.
Not everyone has internet access on their phone, and how many hours can you browse the internet on your phone for?
17
Just because you "disregarded" the part of my post where I said you make no sense doesn't mean the content of your post actually makes sense. You're saying this: If I do not need a package as a whole, then I do not need any part of that package. That's completely senseless. Now either you're a troll or a fucking idiot, but it's not hard to understand that just because I do not need every single feature of a MFC doesn't mean I do not need a printer, and the same applies to a phone and its ability to read wikipedia. I don't need a phone. You printer analogy's a good one, so I'll use it again. If you need a printer, it doesn't matter which one you use. However, you'd do better to use the one with better features. In a phones case, when compared with the wiki reader: Updated constantly, the ability to edit information, the ability to view full colour picture. (Yes the last sounds uneccessary, but if you need a wiki on bomb-defusal it helps to know whether to cut the red wire or the blue wire.) Another point I'd like to make is: Basically everyone has a phone anyway. At least 1/4 of which have a contract allowing internet access. Most of them don't need this on top of the phone they already have. PS: Trying to seem more assertive by putting ", kid" at the end of your statement doesn't work, so don't bother.
It's like the Hitchhiker's guide to the galaxy. That's awesome. If I get one, I'm writing "Don't Panic" on it.
PS: Trying to seem more assertive by putting ", kid" at the end of your statement doesn't work, so don't bother.
You were acting like one, so don't bother putting it on me. Not like you've read my posts, either way, because you would realize that I've already said that a phone would cost more in just a few months, and as I've said already, I wouldn't need any other feature of a phone other than Wiki browsing (and I don't even need that). And the printer analogy doesn't have to do with "better" features, a fax isn't a better feature if I never use it. So it all comes down to this; people who want the ability to browse wikipedia without paying an expensive premium and/or paying for stuff they don't need can use this. And I know a lot of people without cellphones, so the whole "Just pay for internet so you can browse *one* site" doesn't reach me.
PS: Trying to seem more assertive by putting ", kid" at the end of your statement doesn't work, so don't bother.
:argh:
I would buy this.

Let me guess. You pay extra money monthly for charging the iPod, therefore it's not a good solution either?

I'm pretty sure they'd stop making different models of cars if people always bought the one with the most options. Fact is, some people don't feel the need to spend extra money on things they -might use-; if you have a use for Wikipedia on a daily-ish basis, then this would be a sound investment. Why? For the simple reason that it -does what you need it to do-, without spending more money on extras.
I'm going to buy one of these for my mother, buying her an expensive complicated iPod touch, netbook, phone with internet connection or anything else that overcomplicates it is a bad idea. This will be perfect for moms and older people. [editline]04:22PM[/editline]
It's be super cool if you could plug it to a internet connected PC and update it regularly.
Goddammit. Not everywhere has wireless internet. And its mostly secure
Like I said, there is an app that allows you to browse Wikipedia whilst offline, as it downloads the entire database in text.
