Computers are a hell of a lot cheaper to diagnose and fix.
They are a hell of a lot easier to diagnose, I'll give you that, but fixing them is a whole different story. If a graphics card dies and you had a good one, that's about 200 bucks right there. About the same price as a 360. If your mobo dies, that's about 150. If your HD fails, it's only like 80, but then you lose all your shit.
Microsoft on RROD = Here, Have a new console :D Sony on YLOD = buy a new one.
Microsoft on RROD = Here, Have a new console :D Sony on YLOD = buy a new one.
totaly agree
If you want it engineered to NASA standards then you will have to pay a lot more for it. Again, warranty and a good motherboard is only around $100, $50-60 if you get the open box version. 3. Backups and yet again, warranty With consoles you are fucked and the corporation that made them has you by the balls if it breaks as you have to go through them to fix it. You also void the warranty if you open the case of a console. And that $400 console is obsolete in a few years, can't be used for anything else and once they stop making games for it (they are the only ones who can), the value drops like a rock.
Sony is usually pretty chill about warrantys, phone them up. If the person says no, call them again and get a different person and see what they say.
Microsoft on RROD = Here, Have a new console :D Sony on YLOD = buy a new one.
Sony replaces your console if it's within warranty. I had no troubles getting mine replaced when the Blu-ray drive stopped working.
I don't think it's still within warranty :/
I have a 40GB PS3 I upgraded to a 160GB HDD. My PC also had a blu-ray drive. My LCD is an older Envision 19" 1440x900, and it's not HDCP ready, so I'm stuck playing movies on my PC at 720p. -_- My PS3 plays fine on my 1290x1080 LCD TV, I primarily use it for movies since the games cost too much. I bought it back in Feb of 2007, and still don't own any games for it. When (And a very strong IF) Final Fantasy 13 ever sees the light of day, That will probably be my first game. Army of Two and CoD4 kick ass as well, i might get those too.
Do you know what makes my PS3 give those three short beeps and then shuts off?
That's when something running in the background can't shut down properly and it has to force it to do so.
My PSP is awesome and I don't own a PS3, because Xbox360 is better, so Im on good standing with Sony, i've had no problems with my PSP and my PS2 is still in great operational condition.
So. Guess what. I returned from a nine day trip to the US and bought infamous and the directors cut of watchmen on bluray. I come back, turn my PS3 on. Everything is good, it turns on normally and go into the game. It reaches the SUCKER PUNCH screen and BOOM. The tv says there is no signal and the PS3'S light is red and beeping. Im like "WTF?" knowing something was completely wrong, knowing that it wouldn't turn on. I turned it on and guess the fuck what. I have the YLOD. WHAT THE FUCK. WHAT THE FUCK. a friend (still) has this, and the store says there's no way to fix it and we have to buy another one (or something like that. I think i still have the warranty, so...) The point of this story? The only reason I didn't buy a 360 was because of the RROD. Woopdi-fucking-doo. I just got sony's equivalent. Oh, and the disc is still in. Who knows, if they actually fix the damn thing, the disc will be broken. Yes, my spelling sucks. I'm pissed off right now, deal with it. I dont think there is a way to fix this at home, so I won't bother asking. (is there a way?) (MODS: I think this is the correct forum to post this, since this is a hardware issue)
Check your local craigslist.org electronics section, if you live near a major city you can get a "professional" to fix it for you in their garage.
ok lets see xbox 360=rrod, ps3=ylod, hmm what's left...WII...sucks to be you
the bad part is that ive actually had a wii problem. what the wii basically does is say fuck you! im not going to work, im just going to shut off and never come back on, thats right no fuckin around with beeps and colors.. but luckly nintendo gave me a new one.
My PSP is awesome and I don't own a PS3, because Xbox360 is better, so Im on good standing with Sony, i've had no problems with my PSP and my PS2 is still in great operational condition.
noflame please. 360 may have good games, but the ps3's games will be great once released (there's some great games out right now for the PS3).
noflame please. 360 may have good games, but the ps3's games will be great once released (there's some great games out right now for the PS3).
yeah i dont understand why everybody is bitching about how "360 has no good games or ps3 sucks no AAA games" its all dumb. 360 and ps3 has some pretty good games and ps3 has a pretty good line up coming.
Anyways, RROD is mainly gone from 60 gb consoles but both (PS3 and 360) still have like very slim chances of hardware failures. Just like everything in the world.
yeah i dont understand why everybody is bitching about how "360 has no good games or ps3 sucks no AAA games" its all dumb. 360 and ps3 has some pretty good games and ps3 has a pretty good line up coming.
So far Xbox 360 has the best choice of games and exclusives. Ps3 hasnt really come up with many yet.
So far Xbox 360 has the best choice of games and exclusives. Ps3 hasnt really come up with many yet.
Wow, you are such an fanboy. You are starting to piss me off. There are few games that are not available to one console or another. But they're both great, I might buy Xbox 360 Premium.
OMFG.. DID I FUCKING SAY PS3 SUCKS COCK AND DOESENT HAVE ANY GAMES AT ALL? NO I DIDNT.. I JUST FUCKING SAID NOT MANY COME FUCKING ON DICK. /caps. I have some friends with ps3 and omg.. Theres a big fucking difference.
Well overall I don't like you. >:( And I think you over reacted.
+ It costs as more than Xbox 360.
No, it just goes green for a while, then beeps yellow and goes red again
If it goes green for about 2 seconds then beeps yellow and goes red thats a PSU problem. You can pickup a new PS3 PSU from ebay for under £25. Easier to replace it yourself than have sony send you a new one [editline]01:37PM[/editline]
And that $400 console is obsolete in a few years, can't be used for anything else and once they stop making games for it (they are the only ones who can), the value drops like a rock.
Not really, because you can use Linux on it (ok it's slow). Plus if it was ever opened the way the PSP was then it will pull itself back up with a massive homebrew community and such. Not to mention the fact it also has a web browser and a built in blu-ray drive.
This thread has dergraded into a fanboy war. Please get back to discussing how to fix PS3's with problems before i spam every annyoing spam video under the sun to force this thread to the post lock limit. If the console isnt under warrenty try the fail safe method, look it up on google and it might just help you.
Not to mention the fact it also has a web browser and a built in blu-ray drive.
$10 says you typed that from your computer :smug:

Every game that's on a PS3 or 360 that I actually want to play comes out on PC which I'd choose over those two any day. A lot of games on the Wii are exclusive to it and in most cases it's a completely different way of playing (and far more fun), thus why for me a PC and Wii is the best combination psst, how many TF2 updates have you had, 360 :smug:
get a xbox boi
because they're, and I loosely quote my raving 360 tard friend, "better and more reliable"? and he says this on the way back from picking up a new 360 after his 7th RROD

Never 6 or 5 but AAAALWAYS 7 7 7 and 7! WTF? How do you keep your xboxes? In a freaking box with no air or wtf? I had mine for soon 2 years and nothing. Nov 2007. :bang:
