I'll see what I can do, I may have to wait until I have more money for a 4gb kit. the local Frys has a 1333mhz Patriot 2x1gb kit for $40. [editline]02:37AM[/editline] wait, how would I change the RAM settings?
I'd personally wouldn't buy new memory until I tested another HD, but if you do, check to see if the CAS is 7 on that ram
but how do I do that the RAM?
what? on the RAM it should have a sticker saying the settings or whatever [editline]09:42AM[/editline] usually like this 7-7-7-21, CAS is the first one
nvm, figured it out. [editline]02:43AM[/editline] 6-6-6-22 didn't work.
In the bios you can set the individual clocks, a bios update I hear lets you into more manual options. it'll show as either 7-7-7-(~)21 or 9-9-9-(~)27, best if you make sure your new kit is cas of 7 then 9 [editline]04:44AM[/editline] [QUOTE=Makol;21831559] 6-6-6-22 didn't work.[/QUOTE] wulp, go buy or find a spare HD to test on before you ditch money on new memory anyway
the default RAM setting was 5-5-5-15, unless that is what it set to what DRAM Timing Control is defaulted to.
yeah remember makol you said on steam you got this nasty error or something, something about your hard drive
[QUOTE=whatnow V2;21831631]yeah remember makol you said on steam you got this nasty error or something, something about your hard drive[/QUOTE] yeah, I think that was last week when I was overclocking my old CPU, maybe it got fucked up somehow. [editline]02:51AM[/editline] I needed a new hard drive anyways, 160gb is not enough. [editline]02:53AM[/editline] it kept randomly saying "Windows is loading files" and it would freeze. Yeah, buy a new HD, reap the chance to buy a fast 500gb+ <100$ 7200RPM HD anway
I can get a 500gb WD for $50 at Frys.
very nice no matter what you do stay the fuck away from hitachi
7200 RPM SATA 3gb/s? if so, go for it
[QUOTE=whatnow V2;21831850]very nice no matter what you do stay the fuck away from hitachi[/QUOTE] I had a Hitachi DeathStar 200gb (that one is now smashed) and another in an old G5 iMac that still works but the iMac's logic board died. [editline]03:13AM[/editline] [QUOTE=Craptasket;21831851]7200 RPM SATA 3gb/s? if so, go for it[/QUOTE] I think so, my roommate got one not too long ago I'll have to see if he still has the box.
logic board? is this steve's word for motherboard?
yeah, I'm pretty sure it is the hard drive that's the problem. the RAM I have now was the test RAM for this rig, [url]http://www.facepunch.com/showthread.php?t=929651[/url], and it worked flawlessly. [editline]03:16AM[/editline] [QUOTE=whatnow V2;21831881]logic board? is this steve's word for motherboard?[/QUOTE] yep :downs: got to love how creative Steve is.
hopefully ArmA 2 and BC2 are recoverable (and not corrupted) it would be a shame to download those again (along with the 10+GB of addons for arma 2..)
those are on my external :buddy: [editline]03:21AM[/editline] I hope they work :ohdear:
:hfive: OK 6 AM GOODNIGHT GOOD LUCK
yeah it's 3:22 am here, time for sleep. [editline]03:23AM[/editline] if anyone else has any input/advice please post it, I'll check this thread when I wake up.
well before I go and buy a new hard drive I managed to get the Windows 7 installation to start working to see if it will work with a fresh install with this computer, but it's going extremely slow. [editline]11:48AM[/editline] :aaa: it's working so far, got it to boot from hard drive.
installs are a bit slow sometimes, depending on your definition of slow or fast anyway, but WIN7 should be smooth and fluid once done installing
yeah, it's working now. odd how when I did an install on my roommate's PC it didn't work but now it is. but it's working no and that's all that matters. thanks for your help guys :buddy:
