I used to have Tasker automatically set my phone to vibrate mode when the school's wifi was in range, and take it off vibrate once it got out of range.
I could do that, but I like having my sound on when I'm not in class.
He has a One X. The One S has such an awful screen that I'd never honestly recommend it to anyone. I just sell it to people because it brings in the money.
The One S has a pretty crap screen I concur but otherwise it's a pretty damn good midrange device. Honestly if they didn't try to make it a midrange device and actually made it a smaller version of the One X with better design, it would've been a niche that HTC would hold pretty damn well. Honestly, HTC started the big screen trend, but Samsung now is taking it to completion. The next step should be making small phones good. I honestly want to see a 4-4.3" device from HTC next year that can actually challenge whatever Samsung makes their next flagship and decisively beat it.
So back to my issue of suddenly having a brick. Its really strange that this is happening now since I pulled my battery (after properly powering off) for my midterms on Mon/Wed as well with no ill effects. I repeat the process today and all hell breaks loose.
I really wish AT&T would stop being retarded and once they properly build out LTE/upgrade to LTE-A, they really need to go back and build out DC-HSPA+ or at least just 21.1 Mbps HSPA+, it's goddamned retarded that the max HSPA+ speeds on AT&T are 14.4 Mbps, and the highest practical speeds are around 10 Mbps down, with realistic speeds around 3-5 Mbps.

[editline]8th November 2012[/editline] best six and a half bucks i ever spent on an android app i tell you what
I have mine turn off wifi, bluetooth, mobile data, and set to vibrate at work. It keeps me less distracted by the internet, and you save a ton of battery life (down to 85% after 9 hours at work). Could I do it myself? Sure, but I often forget. Seriously, Tasker is awesome for remembering to do shit for you on your phone.
But like you said at the end it's your fault, jailbroken iDevices are not supported and shouldn't be included when it's discussed about what devices can crash. Same with why I don't blame Android for crashes if it's caused by an app that only works on rooted phones. It's funny. My dad's Galaxy Nexus locked up on day one and required a battery pull, but hasn't since. Never been sure why it happened. [editline]8th November 2012[/editline] You really don't know what you're talking about if you're comparing a real world LTE speed test to the theoretical maximum of HSPA. First of all, HSPA+ usually refers to 21.1Mbps max, and anything above that is designated as DC-HSPA to avoid confusion with which radios support what. It IS benefiting him. 42.2Mbps for DC-HSPA is the THEORETICAL MAXIMUM that is possible, achieved under special laboratory conditions that don't apply to the real world. The expected average would be around 7-14Mbps downstream for DC-HSPA, and 18-40Mbps for LTE.
Yeah I was just saying I've never had either an iDevice or Android device crash. unless I was modifying it

Also AT&T has 21.1Mbps in some areas that have "enhanced backhaul". Mostly older devices that run pre-ICS though.
WTF is with goo.im lately? Downloads are slow as fuck.

And AT&T doesn't really. AFAIK if Brian Klug can be trusted, AT&T might as well not have 21.1 Mbps HSPA+ at all. The max so far is 14.4 Mbps, which is hilariously slow.

They might seriously have like one single tower running it, but it exists.
I never even got 6Mbps on my phone, and it can only do up to 7.2Mbps, theoretically. The most ever was 5. Still pretty good but the average was like 3Mbps
What's a good facebook client for android? Tried friendcaster, it was ok but its not fun being woken at 8am cause its someones birthday
I don't even need high speeds. I only have enough data allotment to use Facebook, Facepunch, Maps, and occasionally load a full web page.
What's a good facebook client for android? Tried friendcaster, it was ok but its not fun being woken at 8am cause its someones birthday
There should be a setting to turn that notification off. Look into the settings.
Hey team, I've been using a Samsung Captivate for the past couple of years. My contract with AT&T is up for renewal, and and I've been looking at upgrading to either the Galaxy SIII or the One X. The two things I'm looking for is a great stock user experience and being future proof, so which do you guys think would be the better choice? Are their better phones out there that I am not considering? Is their something up for release in the near future that I should hold for? (

(
The SIII is probably the best phone out there, if you don't obsess about screen details. If you are the kind of person who looks at their screen pixels with a loupe and analyzes the colours with a spectroradiometer, the One X is better.
Me personally would say GS3, To me it's more user friendly out the box than the HTC, but this is just an opinion Also I'm pretty sure the S3 is future proof for at least quite a while, seeing as how it's pretty damn powerful.
What's a good facebook client for android? Tried friendcaster, it was ok but its not fun being woken at 8am cause its someones birthday
Stock app + haxSync
Well I guess he can't be trusted because AT&T only carried phones like the Galaxy S Infuse to say they had "4G" 21.1Mbps HSPA+. They might seriously have like one single tower running it, but it exists.
They called the Desire HD a 4G device too, even though it only ran 14.4 Mbps.

(
The S3 easily, it's pretty much the only Android device with a great out of the box experience (some would argue the Galaxy Nexus/Nexus 4 but I've never used one). Try and grab the i9305 variant too if you're not American.
Nobody except Russia has actual 4G anyway. It's all 3.9G right now, rounded up. (LTE = 3.9G, LTE Advanced = 4G. But the point of "long term evolution" is that the chips will be forward compatible with true 4G)

Whether or not it adds anything important to you will be your own opinion. The GS3 on AT&T is a good device but I'm somewhat reluctant to really recommend it because the screen is meh and the S4 SoC is slightly old compared to the flagships coming out now. I would honestly say that Sense is a better skin, but I'm probably biased because Sense doesn't look cartoony and immature to me, and the whole Nature UX deal just feels very low-rent in my opinion. Sense might be bloated to some, but in Sense 4+ on JB HTC is moving in the right direction with more optimization and less reinvention of the wheel.

Even 3.6 is not awful, but I'd love to get 4 eventually.

Also Sense 4+ is still pretty damn heavy on RAM usage and still ain't smooth. Samsung and HTC need to get together to make a phone! Samsung's SoCs and software and HTCs hardware design and camera.
Why is there a dual core S3 and a quad core S3?
Nobody except Russia has actual 4G anyway. It's all 3.9G right now, rounded up. (LTE = 3.9G, LTE Advanced = 4G. Phones won't be forward compatible with LTE Advanced speeds which is really all that matters.
Why is there a dual core S3 and a quad core S3?
Exyno's radios didn't originally support American LTE frequencies etc so they used the Snapdragon S4 like the One XL.
Why is there a dual core S3 and a quad core S3?
There's a bunch. Dual core Krait + DC-HSPA. Dual Krait + HSPA+/LTE. Quad A9 + HSPA+, Quad A9 + HSPA+/LTE.
