There's a bunch. Dual core Krait + DC-HSPA. Dual Krait + HSPA+/LTE. Quad A9 + HSPA+, Quad A9 + HSPA+/LTE.
Is the i9300 the best one? Because that's the one I'm going to be getting (I think, it's the only one I see in the UK shops) and it's the one I see online most of the time
The S3 easily, it's pretty much the only Android device with a great out of the box experience (some would argue the Galaxy Nexus/Nexus 4 but I've never used one). Try and grab the i9305 variant too if you're not American.
He's American and on AT&T, which is the issue. I really would love to recommend the Optimus G, but LG is still questionable. Maybe they will get it right, but AT&T's slow testing and LG's slow coding means extra slow updates. But really, besides software, there is no reason for me to not recommend the Optimus G, which seems to hit all the right things hardware-wise. The GS3 doesn't really have a great OOBE in my opinion, but this is probably because I prefer Sense, Nature UX's launcher just isn't really that great (no I don't want a market one, too much frustration), the stock apps don't really seem to be all that great, there's no particularly useful apps pre-installed like a flashlight app and such, etc... Sense actually has an incredible amount of extra features added on top of Android that most people don't notice or care about. Anyways, the One X+, GS3, and Optimus G are basically the three Android choices on AT&T. I suggest trying each device out in store to get some impressions of the look and feel, along with some software experience before thinking more about it.
Nobody except Russia has actual 4G anyway. It's all 3.9G right now, rounded up. (LTE = 3.9G, LTE Advanced = 4G. But the point of "long term evolution" is that the chips will be forward compatible with true 4G)
we have real WHAT>????
we have real WHAT>????
Well, I exaggerated. Only Yota has LTE Advanced.
we have real WHAT>????
The carrier Yota has a limited LTE Advanced network in Moscow. I'd imagine they have like one USB modem that works on it and nothing more since no phones support it. Maybe a MiFi device.

And Sense is full of bloat apps now including things like EA Games and that really shit teeter game. Combine that with carrier bloat and it's a nightmare.
Sense brothers, represent. Even 3.6 is not awful, but I'd love to get 4 eventually.
Try downloading the ICE HD skin apk off of xda, it really eliminates the visual clash between Holo and Sense. Get it from here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1448255 [editline]8th November 2012[/editline]
The S3 does have flashlight in the form of a widget! Teeter is just in the phone because HTC devices have always had it. Hell, even the TouchPro 2 my brother bought from a few years ago had it. :v: At any rate, carrier bloat is almost always able to be disabled. I just like Sense's massive number of incredibly useful widgets that no other OEM seems to match. All the imitations on the market are stupidly hard to set up (I really do not want to spend all this time just to set up a fucking weather widget).

HTC probably won't release it, and XDA still doesn't have mobile data working for CM10 (which doesn't have Sense anyway).
Official facebook ap seems fine, I remember it used to lockup loads

Because that's the one I'm going to be getting (I think, it's the only one I see in the UK shops) and it's the one I see online most of the time
Nope, it's not the best. People like to say that HTC constantly refreshes flagships, Samsung did it worse in the form of a giant middle finger to anyone that bought the international version by putting an LTE modem and an extra gig of RAM in the GS3 LTE outside of the US.
The S3 does have flashlight in the form of a widget! And Sense is full of bloat apps now including things like EA Games and that really shit teeter game. Combine that with carrier bloat and it's a nightmare.
whaaaat teeter is awesome
At any rate, carrier bloat is almost always able to be disabled.
Best feature of ICS (best feature of Android ever)
But I could say Sense looks more like Gingerbread with the gradients and stuff. Also Sense 4+ is still pretty damn heavy on RAM usage and still ain't smooth. Samsung and HTC need to get together to make a phone! Samsung's SoCs and software and HTCs hardware design and camera.
Sense can have gradient/gloss sometimes, but Sense 4+ has basically eliminated all the gloss that characterized Sense 2/3. Sense 4+ might be somewhat RAM heavy but it's not nearly as bad as it was before. Samsung and HTC will never get together. In all likelihood, Samsung will probably force HTC into bankruptcy with the sheer force of their marketing campaigns and pricing wars. Remember, Samsung and Apple together made 99% of smartphone market profits last quarter. HTC took the lion's share of what remained, but even now they're in an intense tailspin and compared to last year their profits are only 40% of what they were last year at the same time. HTC might have a chance, but it's only for 2nd or 3rd, 1st is a long forgotten dream by now. [editline]8th November 2012[/editline] And if the prospective buyer is still around, remember that if you get anything that isn't a GS3, you will be incessantly asked whether your phone is the "Samsung Galaxy".
i9305 has LTE and 2GB of RAM. i9300 doesn't have LTE and has 1GB.
i9305 is £500+ on Amazon, think I'll stick with the i9300 for £370~ thanks :v:
Just bought TiBu pro. Auto DropBox backup is awesome.
Yeah, I really must say that Samsung will probably own the entire smartphone market at this rate. Apple and Samsung are basically the only two players worth talking about, and most of Apple's parts come from Samsung, so what I'm really saying is that no matter what, Samsung is winning the smartphone wars. I just find it sad that people are actively rooting for any OEM that isn't Samsung to go down in flames, as if that will help increase choice within the market.
Samsung could really hurt Apple by refusing to supply them parts
I want to root for HTC to do well, but it's really damn hard when they've started removing features (removable battery, MicroSD, etc.)

Sorry I don't see the logic. Apple could cut Samsung out of the supply chain and it'd hurt em bad. Sorry but trend wise Apple doesn't appear to be going away in the foreseeable future. [editline]9th November 2012[/editline]
Samsung could really hurt Apple by refusing to supply them parts
No they couldn't. This logic makes NO SENSE. They refuse to fab SoCs, Apple moves to TSMC. They've supposedly already cut Samsung out of displays for the iPad Mini and Sharp and LG were ready to pick up the orders. The same could be said for every other part. Refusing to supply Apple only hurts Samsung by killing off that source of revenue.

So now I have to get an iPhone 5 or a Windows Phone because I refuse to ever buy a device that makes me wait for updates again. Windows Phones don't look too good for >=64 either so I'm basically forced into buying a 64GB iPhone. If I could have the AT&T Optimus G with stock Android it'd be my dream device.
Optimus G is only 32GB with no expandable storage, there's always the Samsung Ativ S!
AT&T one is 16GB with SD. Also Ativ S doesn't work for me because of the screen.

But hey, maybe Google will make larger storage devices eventually, they're competing with Apple mostly, and make them more substantial than the test products sent out. [editline]9th November 2012[/editline] I do wish they'd update the iPod classic, it feels like an abandoned product

I'm saying that Apple and Samsung will probably be the only players left after all the other OEMs bleed too much and drop out of the market completely. Of course, Samsung's various divisions are fully willing to sell parts to Apple, and Samsung Mobile can't do a damn thing about it. So basically, a bunch of the money that Apple makes is going to Samsung, and all the money that Samsung makes goes to Samsung. It's Samsung all the way down. I don't know how big of a chance, but one that does exist. [editline]8th November 2012[/editline] Anyways, I'm getting an HTC 8X to try out. I'd like to see if HTC's latest devices are really as bad as everyone makes them out to be.

HTC have left a sour taste in my mouth after the experience with my desire Z and my GF's desire, admittedly they are older products
That's cheating! The 8X runs an OS that runs good and HTC isn't allowed to touch. [editline]8th November 2012[/editline]
HTC have left a sour taste in my mouth after the experience with my desire Z and my GF's desire, admittedly they are older products
Desire Z really can only run Gingerbread Sense 2.1, not 3.0. It's just not fast enough, even the Desire HD can only run AOSP ROMs after 2.3 with any sense of speed/snappiness. The OG Desire was okay but it really had a crap SoC and just not enough hardware power compared to other devices, which is why the Desire HD was made.
