Oh, no one's doubting HTC hardware ability (except for choosing Tegra 3), they've always been brilliant at that.
Who knows, maybe they need to do a full rewrite of Sense to try and make it lighter and better, but the 8X will be a nice test of whether HTC still has the hardware prowess that most people seem to think they don't have.

Desire Z really can only run Gingerbread Sense 2.1, not 3.0. It's just not fast enough, even the Desire HD can only run AOSP ROMs after 2.3 with any sense of speed/snappiness. The OG Desire was okay but it really had a crap SoC and just not enough hardware power compared to other devices, which is why the Desire HD was made.
I still can't get it round my head why the desire z runs an 800mhz processor but android 2.3.3
It can't keep up with it, it takes way too long to rotate the screen when you flip the keyboard round, and if you begin typing too quickly it autocapitilizes the second letter aswell as the first so messages look like "HEy" and you look stupid :v:
Fucking amazing keyboard though, on the upside
that's not gonna happen
I have a bad feeling that it will. Apple and Samsung will be the only real players left, we saw the same damn thing repeat itself throughout technology. Desktop OSes are basically down to only two options, x86 CPUs became a dupoly, same with PC GPUs, mobile OSes have already become a two-choice game, and at this point, I'm worried that the same will happen with smartphones.
HTC is not like Samsung, all they make is smartphones/mobile devices. If they can't stay in that market, they can only find another market or simply die and be acquired.

Probably was done for battery life's sake. The SoC is fully capable of running at 1 GHz.

Except for all the people that swear off HTC for not having a spec list as long as Samsung's.
Realised I was completely unaware of HSDPA speeds on my phone. Colour me pleasantly surprised.

Arguably, if you're not getting fibre internet you might as well check out data plans for your phone.

Since I really want a N4, the tape, storage and not that great camera is killing my appeal for it. But the price, THE PRICE!
The N4 is the only realistic, good upgrade with the highest features/specifications to price ratio. I think I can live with 16GB (really 13GB). Hopefully.

If only I could of rooted mine to overclock it
I really need to learn how to root things, I've failed on two different PC's
Could anybody give me a basic list of steps for rooting the desire series, like "install program x, then install program z and run program z" because I'm seriously bad at this

Tape is not bad. The tape used in the Nexus 4 is actually perfectly fine to use, it's dumb fearmongering and the only reason why it would matter is if you had to disassemble more than just battery removal.
but yeah the Z's battery life was nice, a day of texting/occasional web browsing, or 2 days of odd texting and wifi
But the mobile data would run it down by like 10% every 2 minutes, it was ridiculous

It wouldn't fly on an iPhone. But it's $300 so it's passable. Anybody who expected some miracle devices with no compromises was being silly.

It's even worse considering the the Desire C runs ICS with Sense version whatever and it has a 800Mhz single core processor.

That's the best way to do it.

That's the part that made me shake my head, HTC need to stop abandoning phones when they make a new shinier one

600MHz, and it's a Cortex-A5.
I've also heard that the N4 camera isn't that great compared to the S3, One X. Yet again, pricing and compromise.
-snip fucked-

It's terrible, nothing about the pictures I've seen shows any real improvement over even the Nexus S.

it's a 600mhz ICS phone? woooweeeee

baaaaah downgrading, I was hoping for a simpler SuperOneClick method or something, I'll just leave it
600MHz, and it's a Cortex-A5.
What the flying fuck, a 600Mhz phone running ICS? Damn it HTC, what the hell.
A friend has this phone, God it's slow.
Apparently they created ICS for the desire HD, but decided it was too bad and didn't ship it
but they make a fucking 600mhz ICS phone, get your shit together HTC
It's terrible, nothing about the pictures I've seen shows any real improvement over even the Nexus S.
Even the Nexus S? Wow, it must mean my phones camera is better...? Probably.
As in better than even the Gnexus too?
-snip fucked-
Current generation budget phone. It's comparable to the Galaxy Ace or some shit.
EDIT: Thankfully, the Nexus 4 is going to shake up the "budget phone" market. People who are buying off contract might save up the extra $100-150 to buy a Nexus 4 rather than buy a crappy 600MHz phone that providers are selling for $200 off contract.

They ran out of space with the minuscule internal storage. I used to hate on HTC all the time for putting subpar screens, bad SoCs, and low internal storage but everyone in the earlier versions of these threads said I was dumb. Now HTC has remedied all that but it's too late because guess what, the market didn't think the phones were too great either, especially with a new one coming out every week. And now all the owners who thought they could just use SD cards are getting bitten in the ass because updates that could run fine won't fit.
I remember wanting an HTC phone, I like their commercials because they looked pretty good. I didn't even know about Android at the time either.
Hey which HTC was it that had a dedicated Facebook button? I remember laughing at that.
Edit: page king again

That and Sense 3.6 sucks a fat dick for performance, even on the Snapdragon S2 devices that got it the experience is awful.
I've used a friends HTC Sensation, God the amount of lag on the home screens...

It's only fixed on Sense 4.1 and later, or anything before Sense 3.x.
Of course, if you run a custom ROM you can fix it for every version, but I digress...

Fixed as in it probably might run somewhere above 30fps maybe.
Fixed as in it probably might run somewhere above 30fps maybe.
actually, AOSP on HTC Vivid runs at 2 billion megaFPS!

I don't claim to know, all I can say is that it is very obviously smoother and lag is basically not an issue.
