Seriously though, this is bound to stir up some shitstorm very soon.
edit: Maybe it's good in the end that I can't buy a Nexus 4 right now. Maybe some wait will be good.
See that's not how it works in North America. The ONLY point of the contact is the phone subsidy. So what you said about it being cheaper in the long run never actually applied here, unless the user really was going to stay with the same provider for two or three years. I'd assume wherever you live a sim only contract involves the plan being less expensive than it normally would be.

I cry myself to sleep knowing I lock people into agreements that last for three years. People don't think about how long three years is when they sign up. But when they want to cancel and they're told it's gunna be like $400, then they complain like they weren't aware of how long they were committed for.
Phone subsidy is near completely gone here, that's why contracts with phones are useless :v:
Are there any glaring problems with the Nightly GT-I9100 Cyanogenmod roms?
I'm considering running one.
Also is there a recommended kernel for 4.0.4 at the moment? I heard about Siyah via ODIN, but I read up on it and it's been discontinued, allegedly.
Any help please?

As a Bell customer, I demand an apology for charging me $13/month extra for caller ID. Also since we are both Canadian I demand a hug as well. [Img]http://www.facepunch.com/fp/ratings/heart.png[/img]
You may not be the pretty Asian girl who happened to be at the cellshop desk at futureshop in downtown Vancouver when I got my contract, but I still want my hug.

I've seen some phone sellers who throw in car chargers and shit like that behind your back, damn commissions.

My boyfriend would kill me. I'm very sorry you pay that much for CID(I hope that has voicemail too though).

Fido used to do that shit too. They just got a new $40 plan that includes CID, voicemail, and 250 MB data. But unfortunately, they don't have any new flagship phones (except for the One S.)
I wonder if my antiquated i9000 will get any working 4.2 ROMs with the Nexus S not getting it.

Thank you for your apology, I'm sorry I asked you to be sorry. Yes it does include voicemail, although the only use it gets is when the dental office calls telling me I have an appointment :v:
For what I got, it was really a bargain compared to what my other friend on bell has. Unlimited nation wide texting , national roaming, 6GB data vs his unlimited local calling, limited texts, 1GB data for $5 more than mine (he pays extra for CID too).
I still want that hug though :(
You should bother Bell Customer Support or something
They'd probably bill me for it :v:

In the case of both the N7 and iPhone 5, build quality at launch was less than stellar. I have yet to encounter a single problem with my N7 which I ordered in August.
I think the same reasoning can be applied to the N4: wait a bit, let them hammer out the cracks. Or in this case, licensing issues.
Well, I saw a Nexus 7 at Staples for the first time. It looks awesome! I've noticed that rarely anyone mentions the Nexus 7 outside of the internet like in newspapers and stuff. When are these idiots going to realize that Google made an outstanding Android tablet that is ahead of all the others in at least software?

Because overall software wise Google can't force developers in an open market to make good tablet apps. Hooray the launcher runs well and Google's apps look nice on a tablet. I can't really say the same about lots of Google Play apps.

Oh and people generally don't really talk about specific Android devices. They talk about the platform as a whole.
All Android phones can run the most recent version, it'll just run more and more terribly the older the phone is.
Nexus One even runs Jelly Bean, just really really badly. :v:
I've seen a video of the HTC G1 running Jelly Bean.
Lagged like hell on stock CPU speed and with no swap on a fast SD card.

I'd more say A+ job US carriers for fucking shit up for your customers.

Dear diary,
I actually kind of miss Android, the feeling of having a fucking computer in my pocket. Sadly, Android is really unpolished, and I'm sick of that crap. So I left! No regrets (well, if there are regrets, I can easily come back). Also IE10 keeps my tabs, which is quite nice.
So yeah! Maybe this is not forever. Maybe I'll come back and stop whining so much. Until then, WP8 is really fucking awesome (Evernote sucks tho and there's no Dropbox)

Judas.
fuck, im seriously considering the Note II now, but i know i will get to the point where i will get pissed that i will have to wait for updates for so long... but the nexus 4 seems lacking in many points where the Note II excels...

ooooooooo
[editline]13th November 2012[/editline]
Also it's so weird being called FlashFireSix, I made the name when I was younger (for steam) and now I just have it shortened to "Flash"
I wish I could buy a name change, but Flash is already taken and I don't have any spare cash on card, 20 quid goes on every friday, and 20 quid comes out for bus fare and food :v:
It has exactly 512MB of RAM actually. That's no excuse. Any device that runs ICS can run Jellybean. The phone already runs sub par, even by Android standard. Hell it runs sub par even by HTC standards. There's no way Jellybean would have affected the "user experience" negatively.
No, it would. As it is, the One V runs a version of Sense 4 so stripped down that there isn't even a helicopter mode for the launcher. Tons of people on Nexus S forums and people I know that use the Nexus S report that JB is a pile of shit because of how much lag there is compared to ICS.

Why am I presented with zip files, when Odin requires tar files?

Because CWM and the built-in OS updater in Android uses .zip files?

Tried visionary, all it did was slow my phone down to a crawl until I managed to uninstall it
Going to try unlock the bootloader but it's telling me to run the "SDK manager" in programfiles/android except there is no programfiles/android
I found an SDK manager in the SDK tools bundle thing, but it doesn't open properly
so confused :suicide:
Yup but it's still unacceptable. There is no reason it can run 4.1.2 but not 4.2. The iPhone 3GS got three major software updates, why is Google only capable of providing two? It's not even excusable in any way because there are no core changes going from 4.1.2 to 4.2 that would make it not run. It wasn't even a big enough update for them to give it a unique name. I sorta accepted it with the Nexus One because of the limited storage but there is no excuse to be found for the decision here.
Probably because Google realized that the Nexus S already had serious issues running on 4.1, and they didn't want to try and keep updating it when hardware requirements can only go up and the cost of supporting the Nexus S could only go up.
I honestly wouldn't give the Galaxy Nexus any longer than 5.x for it to be EOL'd as well.

Google recently did some changes to the Android SDK, so things have been moved around to new folders.
Also you're supposed to launch it from a MSDOS command prompt with administrator rights.
Right so I'm stuck here
http://htcdev.com/bootloader/unlock-instructions/page-3
Where it says type in "fastboot oem get_identifier_token"
My Command prompt says this instead

Probably a stupid question, but did you remember to enable ADB_debugging_bridge on your phone?
