Since updating to 4.2 my Nexus 7 feels slower when opening the app menu because the current app now animates down to a thumbnail. I really wish I could disable animations or speed them up.
Another little thing is the unlock symbol cuts off at the bottom on the lock screen. Can't be bothered to take a screenshot but anyone with 4.2 should notice it.
Oh, and every time the screen is turned on there's a weird glow to the left indicating you can add more lock screen widgets but it appears every time and it's starting to annoy me.
Everything else is great! heh
okay
what phone should i get?
Agree for Note II
Disagree for Galaxy S3
If you want a bigger phone, Note 2, if you want a smaller phone, S3. The camera is the same I believe.

Dev options --> Animation scales
That's really down to you, they're both amazing phones but for different audiences.
The specs are slightly higher on the Note II, the battery is bigger, and the screen is full RGB (non Pentile)
meant to quote TippZ

I don't understand the PenTile hate. If you're buying an OLED phone you probably don't care too much about how good the display is.
I don't understand the PenTile hate. If you're buying an OLED phone you probably don't care too much about how good the display is.
Consumers in general don't give a shit about the screen, all they care about is if it looks good on the pictures or when it's in their hands.

Your statements, as always, are full of presumptions. Nothing about hate was said, only that it's a major difference if you're on the fence. Text rendering is notably clearer.

So why do people bitch about PenTile? At such high res applications it's seriously not a big deal in terms of how different it looks from RGB stripe unless it's on a Windows Phone where colors are so saturated. I think shitty blogs that write what can't even be called journalism have just gotten everyone on a bandwagon and people hate it for no real reason. I'm referencing RGBG to clear any possible misconceptions. RGBW is a different discussion.

Actually it's identical and the only difference is your eyes not being used to the subpixel pattern being visibly diagonal rather than vertical. I never presumed anything, I made a statement that stands on its own and only was spurred by the mention of RGB stripe on OLED displays being an advantage. If I wanted to say you were hating on it, I would have referenced you directly.
And since the Desire HD and Desire Z are quite similar kernel-wise, then I know where this'll lead.
Oh hello.
Oh hello.
How well do you think it'd even run on a Desire Z? I like hearing about how the DZ dev community is going because I almost bought it instead of my Galaxy S back in 2010.

With the right amount of tweaking I reckon it would run fine, it's not hard once rooted to overclock the DZ to over 1ghz, so that'd help performance
I've got no experience with custom roms as I basically can't root my phone for the life of me, if you remember a few pages back (:suicide:)
[editline]15th November 2012[/editline]
One thing I can say though, emulators on this phone are the bomb because the flip out keyboard provides a game pad where I can remap the keys to the buttons so I don't have to use on screen controls, not related to the dev community just putting that out there because I think it's pretty cool.

I think all my flashing has wrecked my SGS in the long run, it's so much slower than it used to be(even on the same roms) and the only thing I can think of is a ridiculous amount of reads to the flash memory where the OS is kept.

Yeah I saw your post about that a few pages ago, I didn't even know that was possible V:v:V

Well I don't know if that's it. But I KNOW when I flashed back to Froyo JL2 it wasn't even remotely as smooth as when I got it, since that was the firmware at the time. That's just my only guess as to what it could be. Maybe I fucked up the CPU during overclocking on CM7 or something. I'll never know, but I think it's time to retire this thing anyway. I just keep it around for the audio and for storing videos.

Maybe you're remembering it better than it was? seeing as it was a long time ago, and Froyo is not the smoothest of android versions out there, Also why did you flash it back to Froyo, may I ask? Surely whatever it was running would of been fine?

Wanted my MKV support back, Gingerbread has like no RAM free with nothing running. I actually remember running an Eclair ROM where the launcher was literally iOS smooth, but it did it by having the transition happen after your finger swiped. Maybe I am just remembering wrong, spoiled by my Focus and my iPad. Either way, I guess I'm gunna need a new phone soon.

Oh, well makes sense if it's a media device I guess, I can vouch for gingerbread not being brilliant, especially with a 800mhz single core snapdragon + 512mb ram phone..
I wish Android was iOS smooth but it'll never happen because it's designed to run on a load of devices, where as iOS is designed around the hardware it's running on, an advantage I guess

I can't wait till I've got a different phone, hopefully one I can root properly
I've yet to delve into the world of Root access customization..

Eh. Honestly, I don't understand the "constant flashing" impulse that some people get. I've been on the same ROM for more than half a year now. Development stopped, but I've gotten my device to work like I want it to. Battery life is 3.5 hours of screen on time with good signal of web browsing and just enough standby power left over to make it to my charger at home. Standby battery life is something like a percentage point every hour or two, etc. I've managed to get Gingerbread acceptably smooth, plays enough games to keep me entertained when there's nothing else to do.

There were a few months where I flashed the CM9 latest CM9 nightly every day.
I think I'm going to ask for a HTC One V for christmas.
My two year contract is up with Verizon sometime in december, and our family has been looking into slowly migrating onto Virgin Mobile as each of contracts expire. I would be the first to transition. They're supposed to be running off of Sprint's wimax networks, has anyone had experience with Sprint before?
The One V is the only smartphone I like the look of on Virgin. Basically, the only phones they worth mention are the iPhone 4, a rebranded HTC Evo 3d, and the One V.

Well, I said nothing that was a personal insult that time. I simply criticized the post itself. Kaabii and I are both very critical.
EDIT: and I'm sorry for when I did insult you, I was drunk and I took your conments about my phone way too emotionally

Virgin mobile is $35/month now for new plans and you get a terribly limited choice of phones (and only get wimax even with a 4g phone,) T-mobile has a $30/month plan with 5GB of DC-HSPA+ and unlimited throttled data beyond that, which is probably going to be a lot faster and offer better coverage than VM. Not to mention the One V is 3G only, and VM 3G tops out at about 500 kbps when the planets align, and typical speeds average around 20-70. The catch is that the T-Mo plan only has 100 minutes of calling, while VM gets you 300 IIRC.
- VM customer for 3 years (grandfathered $25 plan) and leaving for T-Mo with a Nexus 4 as soon as it arrives

that's actually really useful information, thanks

What's this rebranded Evo 3D called?

You guys think I could end my Verizon contract early if I have a legitimate reason like my goddamn 3G won't work 90% of the time? I have to consistently toggle airplane mode before it actually starts sending and receiving data, and I know it's not the phone since I already tried using a different one.

I've heard of people ending their contract without the ETF fee because of poor service in their areas. Always worth a shot.

It's really bad too since I have the same problem at home as I do elsewhere. Thankfully I'm on a wifi network 80% of the time but the 20% of the time when I'm not on wifi and nothing works via 3G, it's just frustrating.
It's always like "Hey let me show you this funny video/image!" *image never loads and everyone loses interest before I can get 3G to work*
