You guys think I could end my Verizon contract early if I have a legitimate reason like my goddamn 3G won't work 90% of the time? I have to consistently toggle airplane mode before it actually starts sending and receiving data, and I know it's not the phone since I already tried using a different one.
Normally I would say "hey call support ask if you can get a new SIM because yours might have kicked the bucket" but Verizon is retarded and doesn't use SIMs so

They do use SIMs.
For 4G and world phones :v:
My first phone was a HTC Trophy, and I replaced it with an iPhone for various reasons, the main one being 3G would never work on the Trophy, and of course with even the iPhone the problem hasn't gone away so either I have pisspoor luck with handsets or Verizon's just terrible in my area.
There's no reason it shouldn't work when I have full bars for Christ's sake.
I'd like to upgrade to a newer phone in the near future because my tablet is too unwieldy for Netflix and the iPhone screen is tiny.
I know in remote areas if Bell sends a tech to where you live and can't get a signal and the are is listed on the coverage map as covered, they'll void the agreement.
Virgin mobile is $35/month now for new plans and you get a terribly limited choice of phones (and only get wimax even with a 4g phone,) T-mobile has a $30/month plan with 5GB of DC-HSPA+ and unlimited throttled data beyond that, which is probably going to be a lot faster and offer better coverage than VM. Not to mention the One V is 3G only, and VM 3G tops out at about 500 kbps when the planets align, and typical speeds average around 20-70. The catch is that the T-Mo plan only has 100 minutes of calling, while VM gets you 300 IIRC.
- VM customer for 3 years (grandfathered $25 plan) and leaving for T-Mo with a Nexus 4 as soon as it arrives
wait doesn't t mobile have like the worst coverage imaginable?
I got Vodafone in Australia a couple years ago to cancel my contract 15 months early because phone calls kept dropping out, even with full signal. That was easy but then they fucked up their own network big time.
wait doesn't t mobile have like the worst coverage imaginable?
It can't be worse than low-priority sprint (VM), but you can check your area with http://prepaid-phones.t-mobile.com/prepaid-coverage
alright it looks pretty good around me then. Where did you see the $30 5gb plan?
Just got CM10 working with GPS and WiFi.
Squeeeeeeeee

You order a SIM card from here: http://prepaid-phones.t-mobile.com/prepaid-phones/prepaid-sim-cards
Then when it arrives, you register it on their site and set up your plan. Make sure you pick an unlocked phone with [DC-]HSPA+ to make use of 4G.
In another brilliant business decision, Fido has come out with an amazing offer of offering the Galaxy Nexus for $0 on a 2 year contract (previously $30 on a 3 year, then a 2 year). I would absolutely love to have an obsolete phone for the next two years Fido!
Im getting a new phone in december and am not sure what to pick from.
I'm on AT&T
the two phones I was looking at is the
S3 and the One X+
Which one do you guys think is the best choice?
At least the One S is $50 on a 2 year, and they've eliminated all 3 year contacts. But they really better have something a bit more impressive by May, or I'll have to pit Kaabii against Gary Chen to see who to switch to.
edit: auto merge broken :-(

S3 is kind of meh. One X+ is kind of meh too. The S3 is lacking in the SoC, display, and camera department, the One X+ is lacking in the SoC and RAM department. The Note II is great but the display and camera aren't the best. Optimus G is great but it's LG so updates and support are an unknown and the camera is crap.
If AT&T had the Droid DNA with a pure black/grey scheme or a glossy/matte white color scheme and microSD, that would be THE phone to go for.

Seriously. The Droid DNA has front and back RGB LED notifications.

Im reading that the droid DNA has gsm frequencies or w/e so you can pop your at&t sim card in and use it on at&t with a code.
(theres a video on androidcentral of them showing it)
DNA doesnt have a replaceable battery though

Replaceable battery doesn't matter, it's a pain in the ass to switch batteries even with removable batteries, and the only time you'll have to replace a battery is maybe after a year and a half of using the device, which only requires a single real disassembly. As long as HTC didn't fuck up, replacing the battery inside shouldn't be hard.

It's more because of nightly ROM's that'll sometimes make the phone hang up hard-time, so the only way to get it out of it is to pull the battery (or run it dry)
And extended battery packs & battery covers.

I look forward to the non-easily-removable battery of my N4 (whenever google decides to ship it) so I can't just knock the battery out to silence alarm clock xtreme instead of actually doing the math to shut it off/actually wake me up

it's all about the aftermarket extended batteries, bro

see I just stick my phone on the other side of the room
i have to actually get up and walk over to my phone to get it to shut up

I throw it under the bed.
Or just put a phone case on.

i wish that was all it took for me, but if i don't get at least ~4 hours of sleep then i'll wake up a couple hours after i set my alarm and not even remember shutting it off
How well do you think it'd even run on a Desire Z? I like hearing about how the DZ dev community is going because I almost bought it instead of my Galaxy S back in 2010.
4.2 should run pretty fine, if 4.1.2 is anything to judge by. However, as far as I know, the ROM i'm using doesn't have triple buffering, so it may be not as fluid.
I held the Galaxy Note II in my hands today. I wish I had the money to buy it.
im gonna buy it in a couple of hours lol
I put my phone on a bookshelf nearby and I have to carry my ass over and fiddle with the small screen to turn the Damn thing off.

That's a very decent plan! We have something similar in France since last january, except voice is unlimited and web is only 3G+ with 3GB (throttled afterwards)
My phone is excessively loud, even the video doesn't do it justice

Don't worry. T-Mobile's "4G" is the same as your 3G+. Your carriers are just not as dishonest.

Oh I have plenty of bars at any given time. It's literally that the 3G connection will not actually transfer data until I reconnect to the network.
