I keep going to say that these are really unacceptable and no one should just say oh it's okay etc. But then I remind myself that it's cheap device and you shouldn't expect premium things, but they could at least try. I mean look at the Amazon Kindle Fire range! Even the low even Windows Phone devices.
Yeah, it really is a shame, but what can a guy do? I'd love to phone up the engineers and have a nice talk if I could. Fortunately the better part of that list can be fixed in code.
Good one. I could call the inability to use the device one-handed a major quirk. [editline]23rd November 2012[/editline] Shit display is another one.
Those aren't defects. And I fail to see how the Note II display is shit. (On the other hand, the S3 display is, which is why I didn't use it as an example)
It's a shame, but unfortunately hardware is only sold in complete packages.
There's nothing I would love more than to build my own phone like a PC
Those aren't defects. And I fail to see how the Note II display is shit. (On the other hand, the S3 display is, which is why I didn't use it as an example)
It's only marginally better than the S3. Please explain what you mean by one being good and one being bad all because of slight graininess even though they both share issues with over saturation, low brightness, high white points, green color shift, and image retention.

(On the other hand, the S3 display is, which is why I didn't use it as an example)
It is a major defect for anyone that wants a device that they can use without having hands that can palm a basketball. The Note 2 display is trash because it's still a Samsung device, and apparently it's still okay to have insanely blue color calibration and wildly oversaturated color gamut. I don't care if an average consumer would think that it looks better, realistic color is the first priority and should be the default setting. All the display settings that Samsung includes do absolutely fucking nothing to actually fix any of this, all they do is disable post-processing effects that seriously fuck with the display images. 140% of sRGB gamut is unacceptable. 8000K white points are unacceptable.

[editline]23rd November 2012[/editline]
It is a major defect for anyone that wants a device that they can use without having hands that can palm a basketball.
You're still not getting what I mean by defect. A defect is something that's broken, like a speaker being given power when the phone isn't on a call. The size of a phone is by definition a feature of that phone, and can't be called a "defect" in any true sense of the word. A manufacturing defect would be if all phones of a given model had varying sizes due to bad manufacturing tolerances. If every phone is exactly 5.5" within a correct tolerance, there is nothing defective about that.
I don't mean little nit picky issues like that, I mean that the S3 has only one third of the resolution because of Pentile.
GS3's Pentile is not nearly as big an issue as everything else that OLED has issues with. Don't get me wrong, I want OLED to replace LCD as the best display tech, but right now it plainly is not.
Jtagging is a modding an xbox 360 so it can run unsigned third party software Why DID you say jtag :v:
Jtag is used for low-level debugging embedded devices. Along with TTL, though that's more used to access the console of a "headless" device running Linux.
Jtag can be used to fix an ARM-based phone too, but it requires opening up the phone. [editline]23rd November 2012[/editline] We should probably have a separate thread for android debates so this thread can just be regular discussion
Your post is eleven hours old at the time of posting but I would love one if you have one left.
i guess i need to clarify what buttloads means currently sitting on ~180 invites remaining (i'm checking the rest of the thread hold on)
We should probably have a separate thread for android debates so this thread can just be regular discussion
A thread dedicated to bickering like a senile old geezer over various things related to Android? Count me in.
is this possible?? : having an app or w/e which allows you to not have the screen turn on but the touchscreen still be on after you unlock it?
i have to email the invitations to myself, give me about 5 minutes then everyone will have a sweet delicious ingress invite
i have to email the invitations to myself, give me about 5 minutes then everyone will have a sweet delicious ingress invite
Thanks for the invite, I got it working! <3
seriously though i basically have infinite invites. my googler runs out, he asks for 200 more
Got the Nexus 4 on contract today. I'm loving it! Hopefully I get one of those free TV's from LG to make it work out even. Here's my tweet: http://twitter.com/Jaybuz_/status/272037592797696000
thanks for not posting your credit card on the internet [editline]23rd November 2012[/editline] also so apparently fp has a 20 second pm limit
4.2 isn't the most stable, requires an OTA update out of box to enable photosphere
Rather have a day one patch than be stuck with something utterly broken
Glass back
well what sort of glass is it if it's weak then you should do the smart thing and slap a case on it
Insensitive touchscreen, can require some pressure to register taps
This is just me being stupid, but isn't there some way to increase the sensitivity of a touch screen at all?
No USB OTG out of box
chances are if you need to use this you already have an adapter anyway
Can overheat and throttle (possibly fixable by reducing voltage?)
alright LG how do you screw this up really
Earpiece can emit noise even when not on call
Funny wiring maybe? Or maybe strong police radio signal? I've had the police radio come in on my computer speakers a few times even when they wern't plugged in
Some units show a beige glow on screen when warm while glue finishes drying (fades within days to weeks)
yeah that'd bug me at first if I didn't know what it was
Power/volume buttons can be squeaky
Hit it with a can of oil. (not really)
Rather have a day one patch than be stuck with something utterly brokenAgree, I don't think this is even an issue. They started production before the OS was done. This is understandable. This is a nexus device and if you're expecting to use it to the fullest potential without updating you have issues already. well what sort of glass is it Gorilla Glass apparently, but a Verge editor has apparently already broken it by accidentally hitting it off the table, so it definitely isn't invincible if it's weak then you should do the smart thing and slap a case on it Lots of people like to have a phone without a case, but this is still the correct idea This is just me being stupid, but isn't there some way to increase the sensitivity of a touch screen at all?Thats the problem, it becomes imprecise at a certain level of sensitivity. This isn't much of a problem because it's mostly when the phone is plugged in, and won't detect EXTREMELY small taps chances are if you need to use this you already have an adapter anywayNo comment, Google's done this before and they'll do it again. alright LG how do you screw this up reallyagree, although I hadn't heard of this one. Funny wiring maybe? Or maybe strong police radio signal? I've had the police radio come in on my computer speakers a few times even when they weren't plugged inExplaining why it happens doesn't mean it isn't a problem. Lots of people are predicting that it's the former. yeah that'd bug me at first if I didn't know what it wasAgree, but if it's in the first few weeks only it isn't an issue Hit it with a can of oil. (not really)actually a problem, but I think the Optimus G had problems with this too. No solution found
responses in quote and such. I agree with you for the most part.
Explaining why it happens doesn't mean it isn't a problem.
As correct as you are, it wasn't exactly what I was driving at. That was just the only thing I could think of as a response to that.
actually a problem, but I think the Optimus G had problems with this too. No solution found
I don't think a squeaky button would be an actual problem, unless it was like super crazy loud. Then again I'm usually in environments with a lot of background noise anyway so your mileage may vary I guess (that and I think squeaky noises are funny but that's beside the point)
Here's the glue stains To test for thermal throttling, Anandtech threw the N4 in the freezer and re-ran some benchmarks, and what do you know
I don't mean little nit picky issues like that, I mean that the S3 has only one third of the resolution because of Pentile.
What are you talking about. It has the complete and full luminance resolution but 2/3 the chrominance resolution. The human eye isn't as good at locating the centre of chrominance as luminance. Hell we're so bad at it that videos are sampled with half chrome res. I'm sorry, but you're blatantly misinformed about PenTile and by spreading that misinformation you may inadvertently cause others to be misinformed as well. Please stop.
I was going to be jealous until you said the C word
I would never normally take out a contact but if I get confirmed as getting a TV I can cover the cost of the contact so the phone will only cost me £180. Google made me do this!
all over the world!!!
Quite literally. For some reason I'm seeing a portal in Antarctica in the online html map.
probably for that science base they got over there
probably for that science base they got over there
I'm going to wait until that portal is found by one of the in-game teams and see what they do. knowing some of them already they're probably going to try and fly over there without coats

Yellow glue stains don't always go away. The stain on my iPhone 4 didn't go away in a month, I had to replace the phone
