Still dreading the day my Note dies.
600 euros = 778.3200 US dollars
For my s3. Holy shit how is it that expensive in the US.

Don't forget, they don't pay VAT and stuff is generally cheaper.

How can it cost ~1000$ in the US, if they don't pay VAT and stuff is generally cheaper?
I paid ~780$ for mine, pre-order, while we do have a 21% VAT and things are generally more expensive.
Whenever a black screen is being display on my Note, not true black but an off-black like the background of some apps, there's a black streak on the right of my phone and some random black splotches on the screen.
Does anyone know what this is? I can't believe they'd be dead pixels, as colour is displayed fine-ish (bar the standard cross-hatching).
Here's a recreation of what I'm talking about, I can only see it when the only light source is the screen itself. It's definitely not smudge marks or anything like that.

You need a warranty replacement on the screen, that's a factory defect with the screen because Samsung has recently gotten sloppy when it comes to making OLED screens.
[editline]29th November 2012[/editline]
Aaaand I'm off to WP8 with an 8X for now. I might swap back and forth between a Desire HD and 8X but I figure it's worth trialing WP8 to see if I like it.

It's not a defect. OLEDs have that issue.
My Vita has a ton of those.

Your Vita is defective.
Your Vita is defective.
So I guess all of the Vitas were defective.

Is this a problem that will get worse as time goes on? I notice this with my new S3 but it currently doesn't seem like a huge enough deal to send it back.
I finally got around to googling the problem I was having with my phone. Randomly when playing music or podcasts, whatever happened to be playing would just pause. Since this usually happened when walking or something, I didn't get around to it.
Turns out the CBC Radio app and Google Listen can cause this problem. I haven't launched CBC Radio in a month, though it still managed to run in the background and cause problems.

No. It stays there and doesn't change, this is a common issue with high PPI OLED displays. It's highly likely that your replacement will still have ink marks.

God, the 8X is fucking beautiful.

You can only see them in the dark right? I read somewhere that it's glue under the screen because OLED screens are really thin. I could be wrong though. Pretty sure every OLED screen has them you just have to search for them when it's dark. My Note 2 has a few too.

My Galaxy S has VERY VERY faint markings like that which are only visible in a pitch black room and displaying an 80% black/grey fill

A friend tried taking his S3 back because of it and they said it's not an issue, and wouldn't accept the phone.

In other news, Kies is a horrid piece of shit that claims I don't have a sim card, what's a good back-up utility I can use on my PC?

Meanwhile Apple took my iPad back even though the screen had scratches and the back had scuffs, because there was a single spec of dust under the glass only visible on white backgrounds. Sorry Samsung, but the Mura on the OLED displays is actually a worse defect than that because in some cases it can show up during actions like watching movies, and you should be taking it back.
HTC took my phone back and replaced the touch screen even though the entire phone looked like it had been through WWII being used as a bayonet
all for free, in under a week
[editline]30th November 2012[/editline]
I am also now scared my S3 will have blotches on the screen :(
Anyone playing Ingress? I did the training missions and now I have absolutely no idea what to do. I also dislike that you can't move the map.

It's basically a given, you're a beta testing customer for a technology that isn't mature. I don't see what the big overall issue is. The display has glaring issues that can be seen in every scenario, but something that only shows up in a given circumstance is what is complained about?

You should have been given a pop-up/transmission asking you which faction to choose, Resistance or Enlightened. If you didn't, pick which one you want and then use this form to request a change to it. It may have by default put you into Resistance (your name is blue). If it's green you're in Enlightened.
There are codes here you can use to give yourself a boost in items to get started.
Use Ingress Intel to find portals around you, or head to monuments to tag a portal if there isn't one already. You can't move the map in the app because the idea is to get people moving around and finding new sights.
The field guide should be able to answer any other questions.

I remember FP having an indicator of your country location...
I guess it's gone now.

I am resistance. It's just that I can't really see anything nearby.

"adb backup", but that backs up everything as raw data. if you want to backup contacts into a readable format, use AirDroid or something

you really have to go to the center of a major city to see anything (or submit your own portal candidates)
