get right at the edge of wifi range open gmail, make it really dark in testing area to reduce backlight to below 30%, on the n7 it'll flicker because of the wifi antenna drawing too much power or something
Wasn't the fix just to somehow disconnect the antenna's GND connection from the rest of the tablet's? Tape were apparently the solution to that.
get right at the edge of wifi range open gmail, make it really dark in testing area to reduce backlight to below 30%, on the n7 it'll flicker because of the wifi antenna drawing too much power or something
I have now discovered why my phone flickers on minimum brightness well it's not a nexus 4, maybe my phone is just shit edit: phone confirmed for shit
get right at the edge of wifi range open gmail, make it really dark in testing area to reduce backlight to below 30%, on the n7 it'll flicker because of the wifi antenna drawing too much power or something
Just went to the far end of my house where the lights are off and where I get 1 bar of WiFi and I can't see any flickering.
I have now discovered why my phone flickers on minimum brightness
yeah, it's a relatively easy fix on the n7
Its super hard fort me to get them to show up. like, the conditions have to be perfect. Even then, I don't think its a defect. I think it looks structural. Like, it doesn't look like a problem with the display itself, more like something that's supposed to be there.
No, this is a problem with yields for high PPI OLED displays. This almost never happened with the Galaxy S, started showing up with devices like the Galaxy Nexus. [editline]30th November 2012[/editline]
People just assumed since the Nexus 7 was pretty good after the initial issues that Google had learned to actually do things right. But the Nexus 4 overall and the pairing of a WQXGA panel with a GPU just marginally better than the one in the 1024x768 iPad 2 from 2011 are just horrible failures of design, coordination, and execution.
Nah, the Adreno 320 is on par with the iPad 3 GPU. Definitely not the iPad 4, but then again the Nexus 4 doesn't have that massive display.
looks like the flickering actually reduced in 4.2.1 fluke or what, i don't care
Apple keeps making 64GB iPhones and iPads, they make more money than every other cell phone maker combined. There's your support, there's clearly a market for them, even if it's small. And no, the fact that you can put an SD card in the S3 is not an argument because regardless of how fast it is, it's not as fast as the memory in the phone. Apps on it will load slower, like you said it could have issues with high bitrate videos, etc etc.
The issue is that while NAND memory is basically guaranteed to do everything, apps shouldn't load slower as long as they never put data on microSD. I personally think that app data and camera stuff needs to be dumped to the NAND, and then once the camera captures are done it should be migrated over to microSD every so often. NAND is not needed for music, photos, or videos, which are generally the biggest files. I would be really surprised if someone could fill 32 GB of NAND with just app data and temporary camera storage. Anyone getting a microSD for a phone should be getting UHS-1 anyways, and that delivers at least 20 MB/S read speeds, which is more than enough for media playing.

I've got a bunch of 32GB ones. I guess I should just throw them in the garbage right? How about people who shelled out $100-200 for a 64GB that's only a Class 4 or Class 6 when they first launched? Just toss em? The REALITY is that most people don't have cards that are UHS-1, and it's not hard to fill up the internal NAND of 16GB with app data when you have a bunch of Gameloft games that are multiple gigabytes in size. Plus, outside of the S3, you really don't get the choice of an SD card. HTC's Droid DNA. You're stuck with 16GB on a 1080p phone. My copy of the Avengers is 18GB, guess I'm fucked there regardless of how fast my SD card is. Same with the Nexus 4, most of HTC's lineup, etc etc.

Really, as long as read speeds are fast enough, it's not a big deal. Yes, 16 GB is not a lot, but 32 GB like in the GS3 is enough for app data. Yes, outside the S3, 64 GB variants make sense, or even 128 GB variants, but if you're going to watch Avengers on a phone, I'm going to assume that you aren't going to have to move much for the duration that you're watching it, so it shouldn't be a big deal to just have a USB-OTG dongle with flash drive to watch whatever it is that you want to watch. I don't like having only 16 GB, but if that's my only option, then that's just kind of something that has to be dealt with. The DNA is unquestionably the best phone on Verizon, and if you want something with decent storage, the next best thing is the Note 2.

In other news, Kaabii: Fuck, WP8 is insanely smooth. I don't know if I'll be able to get an Android device after this :(
In other news, Kaabii: Fuck, WP8 is insanely smooth. I don't know if I'll be able to get an Android device after this :(
Like I've said. Things like bright and gaudy OLED displays and Jellybean's speed improvements are nice until you know what you're really missing. But I own the only WP7 device that had an SD slot and one of the few that had such an easy Interop unlock, so I'd probably miss some of Android's openness because I'd know what I had lost if it were my only device now. http://www.anandtech.com/show/6425/google-nexus-4-and-nexus-10-review/2 Oh sorry. I guess to be fair I should include the tests done in a freezer :v: http://www.anandtech.com/show/6440/google-nexus-4-review/3 Same result, nothing on any Android device matches up in most cases. Also I meant the Nexus 10 with its WQXGA panel had the bad GPU combo. I didn't mean the Nexus 4, because it's fine. I meant, the Nexus 4 overall didn't turn out well, AND that bad pairing with the tablet are two failures.
6 months ago I bought a 32GB microSD class 10 card because I needed it and I'm so happy I got it. I was rocking a slow 8GB class 2 off my mom's Nokia and it was a massive improvement in speed (app loading) and I could easily store tons of movies, music and other media. Best investment ever. I mean what internal storage partition for my music? It didn't even exist. I blame Sony.
Speaking of 32GB's, Amazon had Class 10 SanDisk mSDHC's for $18 yesterday. They've upped a bit to $25 but I think it's still cheap as hell: http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B009QZH7BU?ie=UTF8&t=slicinc-20&tag=slicinc-20
Exactly and it's almost half and better than what I paid for...

Yes, the Nexus 4 runs like trash on those benchmarks, but just look at the Optimus G instead, it's a lot more representative of what the Adreno 320 can actually do.
The only one I could find from Anandtech still showed it being slower than the SGX543MP4, in fact it was actually slower due to the pre release software than the Nexus 4 in Egypt HD.

I really wish they made a game of Egypt HD :v:
is there a way to record the screen? the flare happens in aosp
Plug into computer and run the android SDK tool thing where your phones screen appears on your computer, then record your computer screen? Or just flat out point a camera at it or something, unless I misunderstood
I'm really enjoying my N4. It's a great phone for the price. Luckily mine doesn't seem to rattle.
Anyone else got sync problems? My N4 can't sync or use the play store but I can browse perfectly.
on my PC browser, if I clicked "send" to my i9300 (I registered it before It got put away till christmas) when it's turned on on the 25th would it start downloading it?
Yeah, it should do that. [editline]1st December 2012[/editline] What does it show in Settings>Accounts>Google?
Awesome, thanks

I finally turned it on a week after I choose "download to that device" on Google Play, and it started downloading it as soon as the device connected to my wi-fi network.
Multi tasking on the N4 is a lot better. It keeps tabs! Don't know if it's due to 2gb of ram or just improved memory management.
Multi tasking on the N4 is a lot better. It keeps tabs! Don't know if it's due to 2gb of ram or just improved memory management.
4.2 does seem to have better memory management, and the extra gig of RAM also helps. [sp]now if only n7 had 2 gigs of ram[/sp]
Silly Ezhik, just download more RAM!
