So what would save more RAM and battery: AOSP ROMs or Stock Rooted + Debloated? I hear some people say that AOSP gets shit battery life because it's not "optimized" for the device, but I can't be assed to run tests on it.
AOSP often can get worse battery life if the OEM optimized their ROM well. Samsung's Galaxy S series often runs far worse on AOSP because of just how finely tuned their ROMs are.
1GB ram gets me through for a mobile device tbh
each new version of android eats more and more ram :c

I haven't been able to test general usage yet, but I got like three days of standby out of it on stock TouchWiz.
what
I dunno, you like Sonic, right?
no sonic is worst hedgehog
I dunno, you like Sonic, right?
What the fuck...
I've been wondering if I should root my SGS2 but I'm afraid I'll fuck it up somehow. Anyone here kind enough to write me some kind of a guide about it? I tried googling around but everything I found seemed to be outdated info. [editline]10th December 2012[/editline] Or link me to an up-to-date guide
Do anything that isn't flashing bootloaders. Just flash CF-Root and use TriangleAway, you will be rooted after that with no evidence if you flash back to stock. You always need more ram on Android, free ram isn't wasted ram, it's not Linux it's Android. The one that lags a lot. I could use more ram.
each new version of android eats more and more ram :c
I regret installing this custom rom that tried to mimick a new version of android and patically killed my phone till I got CM mod :suicide:
You always need more ram on Android, free ram isn't wasted ram, it's not Linux it's Android. The one that lags a lot. Kill all tasks on a 512MB device, runs way smoother compared to when you had a bunch of apps running.
So I just got an S3, any tips on maximizing my battery life while still getting some notifications out of it?
So I just got an S3, any tips on maximizing my battery life while still getting some notifications out of it?
Install a Custom ROM that uses stock, but debloats everything.
Oi, you just stepped into the wrong neighborhood.
oh shit, i'm sorry. I'll change my avatar back right away.

Kill all tasks on a 512MB device, runs way smoother compared to when you had a bunch of apps running.
Free RAM is wasted RAM up to a point. If there's enough RAM left that BIG apps can get loaded up without having to spend a ton of time killing off old apps, it's fine. So basically there needs to be some cushion room. I'd call it around 125 megs for max multitasking potential with some lag, 150-200 or so to keep lag from being RAM related.
Why is Google Play suddenly telling me that I can't install anything because my GS3 isn't compatible? Edit: Play Store Services was being dumb.
Install a Custom ROM that uses stock, but debloats everything.
Well, this seems rather intimidating. I might just hold off.
And now I am getting 403 errors on GPlay... What the hell is going on?
JuiceDefender does an alright job, basically it just turns your mobile data off when the screen is off then turns it on periodically to let the phone sync. A debloated ROM is a better option though, and it's not as intimidating as it sounds.
Okay. I was looking at this, as my phone fits the requirements. It's still 4.0.4 and the correct model number, but I'm not sure what I should do about some of the choices it gives me and what it'll do. I see that it talks about flashing a TouchWiz JB rom, but I'm not really sure what to go with. Some guidance would be greatly appreciated. woops http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1762709
Android is stupid sometimes.
OK but people saying Android's RAM management can take care of it are deluded, because if it could it'd never reach that threshold where very visible slowdown is introduced.
It's possible with things like, god forbid, V6 supercharger or other things that tweak the OOM killer to start killing off tasks earlier rather than later. ICS and above Google decided that the "best" way to do the same thing was to just limit the max number of apps running in memory, and to limit the max time any app could spend in memory. [editline]10th December 2012[/editline]
JuiceDefender does an alright job, basically it just turns your mobile data off when the screen is off then turns it on periodically to let the phone sync. If you want to do this, alter sync settings and figure out what is hurting battery life instead of trying to use shitty apps like JD that mess up Android's sync manager.
I know it's a sin to suggest removing functionality. But maybe Android's multitasking needs to be a bit more strict to stop rogue apps. Have some APIs for some stuff in the background, like iOS or WPX. You'll still get your push notifications and your background audio and VOIP and such, but apps won't be able to just sit in memory taking up RAM and CPU cycles when the user really doesn't give a fuck. [editline]11th December 2012[/editline] Like I've heard people go into their running apps list and ask what processes are and why they're still running when it seems unnecessary. They're running because they're friggin allowed to! When there aren't enough restrictions, people can sometimes get lazy with their quality, that's kind of been a problem for Android apps for a long time.
I used juice defender one time to try it, battery died that hour. [editline]11th December 2012[/editline] Uninstalled right after.
I dunno, you like Sonic, right?
Ouch my eyes!

My Desire HD ran like trash until I used V6 supercharger to change OOM settings to force it to keep RAM levels above around 125 mb free.
and that's why i still want android to offer proper running app management :I
That better fucking be in Key Lime Pie. Along with proper encryption of each users files, so we can get removable sd-card slots back.
