Along with proper encryption of each users files, so we can get removable sd-card slots back.
Not gonna happen, Google don't want SD cards.

They don't wanna have a test drive of my stubbornness.
I can be a thermonuclear grade-A dick if someone goes straight against what I like and stand for.
ok well you're not getting sd cards on google phones
You really can't go wrong with 16gb/32gb on a phone, I'd only want it up gradable if I had an 8gb device imo

No Google, cloud Isn't the future, it's just a handy tool.
Cloud is the future, but we'll likely be dead before the internet and cloud services themself get good enough to replace local storage.
I would more than happy like to stream everything from the cloud if mobile data limits weren't a pain in the ass here, 200mb per month for me + free facebook and twitter within Australia
Streaming music or instantly uploading photos to skydrive or some other service won't cut it with that data limit and blowing over my data rips my hair out, 50c/mb if you go over
Not for some time
Well, streaming is also slower, needs reception, uses more power, has more latency and can't be taken on places like a plane.

Hence why I label it as merely a tool.
Nothing will ever beat local storage, it'll "assist" it at best.
And local storage will get larger and larger for phones, we'll probably see 256gb on phones sometime down the track, maybe in 2 to 3 years
hell they already have this big storage on the iPod classic however that runs a very very very modified iOS and isn't designed to do what phones do

Yes but that used a HDD which would be a terrible idea for phones.

yeah I know, I'm talking about flash memory and we're making shit smaller each day so I don't think it'll be long till we see that
uhm... is it possible to get black spots on your amoled screen? looks kinda like some smudge
it looks like dirt but im

yes, known defect with high PPI oled screens, all you can do is get a replacement and hope the next one is better
Hey remember the outage yesterday? That's what happens when everything is on the cloud, it's bad if it breaks. I love local storage, wanna copy photos and videos? Why have it on cloud storage when most of it is useless photos of text book and school work. I would still live with a 32gb Nexus 4 though.

Google had an outage yesterday? That's weird. Never noticed.

I only noticed Google+ being down, because I use it for Ingress comms

I only use Google+ for storing photos (and never took any yesterday), and no other Google services were down from what I could tell.

Yep, traditional storage never ever fails, and always 100% works.
Storage cards totally never break, and don't have overwriting limits on them, and HDDs happily keep rattling when you shake them, or keep all your data when you use a magnet on them.
Is the Galaxy Nexus still a good buy for its price league or should I consider another phone?

I don't know about you but I have never broken an SD card, in my entire life
What do you do, take it out and pick your teeth with it?

They are prone to random failure without warning. Its not even like you have to abuse them (if anything, they are very resistant to abuse). It just...happens.
I had a Sandisk 8 GB one in my Nokia E63. The phone randomly grinded to a halt, and wouldn't reboot. Removed the SD card and everything was fine. Put the SD card in a card reader and the computer couldn't even detect it. It was pretty much a dud and lost everything on the card. I had it for about 6 months and worked perfectly up until that point. I now know its important to back them up every so often. Only card I've had that's done it, but happening once is enough to know that it does indeed happen.
So just like all storage solutions, they aren't 100% faultless. Hell, I'm sure that internal memory on phones aren't invulnerable to this either. Sometimes, shit happens.
Local storage ftw

Well yeah, you can get a faulty anything with electronics, but It's probably more likely that you don't have an internet connection and can't access the cloud, than it is that your MicroSD card fails, and if the card fails just restore from a back up (presuming you understand the importance of making a back up copy of things every so often)

Also I had a Nokia E63, it was the shit

True. Although in my case (and this certainly isn't true for everyone), not having an active internet connection is insanely rare (Verizon may be expensive, but goddamn do they have a good network). And for the most part, I can live with 32 GB on my GNexus.
But yeah I will agree, you shouldn't use cloud storage as your primary storage, just in case you do run into that situation where you have no internet. Or use a hybrid system like Dropbox where you have the files stored locally but are synced in real time. Even if it doesn't address the limited local storage space or data limit issues.

And yes in 2009-2010, the E63 was the shit. I still love it for what it was.

Yeah, hybrid systems are probably the best bet, but when I'm in college and I need my data the most I get no signal unless I walk outside, so I bought an S3 over a nexus 4 for many reasons, one of them being the expandable storage
It was perfect for texting, I still have mine sitting in a draw (without the screen)

Mine apparently has a broken USB port so I can't update the firmware. I never bothered to RMA it since I ended up switching to Verizon a few months later (at the time, GSM coverage here was near nonexistent unless you lived in Sioux Falls and was fed up with it). Goddamn that "adjusting the volume causes your music to stop while seeking" bug was annoying. But everything else about it was so damn good (especially that battery life).

I didn't even have mobile data with my E63, I had Unlimited texts and 200 minutes
Then I got a girlfriend and like that I managed to send 3300 texts in one month (Silly me thinking "unlimited" actually means "unlimited") and rack my phone bill up to £90
Yeah I distinctly remember charging it every saturday, and that would just do me for the week
Still one of my fave phones to this day
I have the 8GB Nexus 7 and although I can't store ALL of my music on there, I can at least make my favorites playlist available offline which is what I listen to 80% of the time. And I have never installed too many apps on there. I have a butt-load of apps, some of which I only rarely use and a ton of games that I don't play all the time but like to keep on there when my friends play with my tablet. I think I haven't used more than 5GB.
Plus, I'm always on Wifi and my university's wifi seems great. Haven't had much trouble except for the occasional blurp.
I always play off Google Play when I'm on my tablet.
