Wow, a friend got the Galaxy S III from Koodo and it only has a 1.5 GHz dual core CPU and for some reason, it only has 8GB of space according to him, despite the receipt saying 16GB. It's also $350 on contract. EDIT: What the hell, Rogers and Bell have the same version.

[QUOTE=1solidsnake2;38948362]North American version. Has a dual core Snapdragon instead of a quad core Exynos.[/QUOTE] How does the performance compare to the quad core international one? The friend who bought it was originally going to buy a N4 with a quad core CPU, so he's kinda pissed since he thought it had a quad.
So I look around on the ePSXe forums to see if there's another sound plugin there [img]https://dl.dropbox.com/u/5733962/ShareX/2012-12/2012-12-23_14-49-01.png[/img] well i guess not [editline]23rd December 2012[/editline] wait what the hell it hought this was CIPWTTKT oh well

Visibly it's still the fastest Android phone on the market in terms of fluidity, the only one that even comes close to looking smooth like WPX or iOS. [editline]23rd December 2012[/editline] Also there is no 8GB S3.
My galaxy nexus is a lot smoother than iOS.
[QUOTE=reevezy67;38949188]My galaxy nexus is a lot smoother than iOS.[/QUOTE] On the 3GS or iPod Touch 4th gen maybe. I have a Galaxy Nexus running 4.1.1 in my household that I've used extensively. Still doesn't even match the iPhone 4 in the main UI.
Use nova launcher with animations set to fast. I've locked my CPU to 700mhz+ as well. I have an extended battery to cope with it.
Sorry but phones have more than just the launcher. [editline]24th December 2012[/editline] Wouldn't matter anyway. You sort of can't get smoother than 60fps when displays are 60Hz.
[QUOTE=Oicani Gonzales;38949530]the iphone's has more than 60hz? holy shit[/QUOTE] No it's 60Hz.
I like how my phone using Nova Launcher and be very smooth with the scrolling, it looks pretty good. Friends S2 lags, friends Nexus S lagged even more.
[QUOTE=garychencool;38949605]I like how my phone using Nova Launcher and be very smooth with the scrolling, it looks pretty good. The fastest launcher I have used is TSF Shell which is insanely fast (constant 60fps). Only problem is that it has an alien interface and doesn't match my usability requirements.

Even though a dual core is more than enough for him, haha. He's returning it tomorrow and going to wait for the N4. I mean, if I was going to spend $350 on a phone, I'd look at the carrier's website first.
anyone here use T-Mobile in the us? how good is the reception and speed and support and all that jazz?

thanks for that. My house is here. [IMG]http://puu.sh/1EzbQ[/IMG] I really don't know what I want to do for a phone. Currently have an intensity ii on verizon. I don't really think I want to go for a smartphone with them. T-mobile is the cheapest contractless, but no real minutes. Although I'm not sure if I use over 100 minutes. And then I have to find a cheapish phone that's still not slower than shit.
I think I used my phone as a phone more this month than I ever have before due to holiday arrangements and I used a grand total of 36 minutes, but of course that's just me. Yeah you probably won't get very impressive service there, though presumably you have Wifi at home. Everywhere I regularly travel is well covered so it does the job for me. If you really need talk time, you can use something like GrooveIP or Talkatone with your Google Voice to get unlimited free calls in the US/Canada over a data connection.
[QUOTE=mblunk;38950724]Just wondering, have you used a Nexus 4 yet? [/QUOTE] Just the Optimus G. I'll be able to use the Nexus 4 in a couple of weeks. The Optimus G isn't as smooth as the S3 from what I can see, and it's all due to the animations. This would hold true for the Nexus 4 with Android having such mechanical animations not at all designed to be like you're manipulating virtual objects. [editline]24th December 2012[/editline] Like it's not a coincidence that the two OS's regarded as actually being designed for touch and being as fluid as possible both use proportion manipulation when touching things on the display. Touch MANIPULATION. Not just your finger replacing what would be a mouse cursor or trackball.

I guess I'll have to start looking for used gsm android phones on craigslist. I've got wifi in my house, but by my school where I'd actually use the network, it's only 2g. I guess it just depends on how much I'll actually use my phone for web related stuff, and I really don't know because I've never had a smartphone before. How long would it take to load a page of facebook on 2g compared to 3g? [editline]23rd December 2012[/editline] I'm asking stupid questions now that no one can even answer. my bad
Make sure the phone works. T-Mobile's 2G is 850/1900 or just one of those, but AT&T phones work on their 2G which is what matters. But if you want some form of 3G support, you need AWS/2100.
I like how your mobile Internet speed is faster than my home Internet...
Gary that'll be the case for most Canadians with mobile tech moving forward and our home net standing still. Want unlimited bandwidth? Limited to 28Mbps. If you get tiered on Bell you can get 175/175 assuming you're a special person who lives in basically one small part of Toronto, and you pay a fortune for it with bandwidth I could use in a week.

Slow but not unusable, most webpages were satisfactorily loaded within 10 seconds compared to 2-5 seconds on 3G/H+. [editline]23rd December 2012[/editline] I guess it's good to know I'll still have speeds like that if I ever go over 5GB of usage in a month, even though I've only used about 400MB in December.

finally got my phone sorted. cyanogen is miles better than stock android (loaded with a bunch of bloaty samsung bullshit apps). feels so much nicer. only gripe i have with cyanogen is the stupid lock screen widget things on the sides of the screen. i didn't see any way to disable them. i guarantee i will take pictures of my pocket insides with that feature.
That's part of Android now, not some CyanogenMod feature.
Is there any way to roll back my phone to a previous OS version? A few days ago 4.1.1 came out for my Atrix HD, and it takes away so much more than it gives. It's got some nice features but not nearly enough to make it better than whatever I had before. Is there some way to revert without voiding the warranty or rooting it or any of that nonsense? Could I potentially back everything up onto an SD card and factory reset this biznatch?
God, I hate how every damn TW-based ROM in the AT&T GS3 dev section is trash. I literally cannot find a single ROM that takes the stock base and just removes clearly unnecessary apps instead of "LOL SAMSUNG SUX REMOVE ALL APPSSS NO LAG" and doesn't shit all over the UI.

That's about 50Mbps down and 30Mbps up, unlimited. Vianet is also giving certain parts of Sudbury 100Mbps down and 10Mbps up, also unlimited. My 20/1 Eastlink cable internet is also unlimited. It really depends where you live and if Rogers is the cable company in the area.

[editline]24th December 2012[/editline] A lot of the time I find that for every good thing that gets added, a bad thing is also added
