The more I read about and see newer Xperia phones the more I want them. Sony seems to be tasteful about the UI overlay it seems rather than shitting all over everything ala Sense or Touchwiz.

So, Kaabii, what is your opinion of the screens on the last few high-end Xperias?
I've only used the Sony Xperia T since that's the only Sony device we've been unfortunate enough to carry. Screen viewing angles are meh, colors are okay for a phone, although they seem kind of dull, reminds me a lot of the iPhone 4 in that regard. Not some reason not to buy the device, the fact that it's made by Sony provides plenty of those to begin with. Have fun waiting for JB Xperia owners.

Edit: Plus, wasn't Sony the ONLY company which updated their entire (well apart from the Xperia Play, but that was a fail to begin with) 2011 lineup to ICS? Can you say that about Samsung or HTC (I won't even mention LG here)? I was contemplating rating you dumb for this silly Sony hate, but I'll take the discussion route instead.
Not here it isn't. Has to go through the carrier first.
Not here it isn't. Has to go through the carrier first.
Every carrier takes their sweet ass time with allowing updates. But the update exists for unlocked/international versions, and is rolling out as I type this.
Whether or not carriers allow it is another problem (which is fucking stupid that carriers even have access to decide something like this, but that's material for another lengthy discussion).

What do you think of the UI overlay on the Xpera T? Compared to say, Sense, Touchwiz, and stock ICS?
Sony puts out so many phones with no place in the market. The Xperia Ion and Xperia T are both on Rogers here. What one do I choose? They're basically the same damn phone. Also yes they did put their whole 2011 lineup on ICS, we'll see if that holds true for JB because it should. You're basically saying they're better than someone else that is worse, but that doesn't make them good. Especially since they originally estimated 2013 for those JB updates, they're ahead of schedule.

I actually think it's okay. Back in 2010, it felt way more fluid than Sense or TW. Nowadays Nature UX is indisputably the most fluid in use out of all those. But Sony's UI is still nice to use, and it doesn't really cause huge clashes with Holo design.

Is it still called Timescape?
I think so. I might go to a local AT&T store or something and play with phones they have on display assuming they have any Xperia phones
Yes, all the manufacturers are terrible when it comes to updates, but unfortunately in the world of Android you either go with a lesser evil or you go Nexus (but then you have to do with certain worse hardware components, like the camera on N4). I don't like it but there's little I can do to change it.
IMO it's better to announce a later date and then deliver ahead of said date than telling your customers that OTAs will be available in November 2012 and still have nothing by the end of December (S2 Android 4.1.2).
Or be like LG, keep literally screwing with your customers by telling them made up dates over and over again for a fucking year.
aaand I'm pretty sure it's still Timescape.

New Galaxy S device in Feb/March, and this time it shouldn't be a mess with different SoCs and such. I'd just wait if you're going to grab a new Android device.

I couldn't afford anything right now :v:
I'm more just curious as to what modern android devices are like because the only new phone I've had contact with is the iPhone 5 (roommate has one)

Wait. So ... no more special American versions and the like with a completely different SoC?
Where'd you hear that?

Galaxy Note II precedent. They put LTE radios with Exynos now.
Anyone in here know of a fix for a malfunctioning internal SD card on the Galaxy S (I9000), or am I shit out of luck?
[editline]25th December 2012[/editline]
It basically goes into the "S" animation and loops that indefinitely. Going into recovery mode reveals that it can't mount /data, /media and all that jazz and formatting doesn't work. CWM Recovery reports success when formatting but doesn't fix anything. After managing to install Cyanogen from an external SD, it just looped the Cyanogen bootscreen.
I like own I have ics and some other phones that costed much more are still on gingerbread . The xperia ion was a random phone in sonys lineup. Sony is kicking ass with very nice developer support and actual updates. Too bad they are using last gen specs right now.

This is another plus for Sony. I don't know how wide is their support of devices, but the fact that a fully working CM10 nightly was made in about two weeks for the Xperia T is fucking impressive.
Sure, the majority doesn't care about this, but it's still a plus for some people.
So far ive found 2 threads with the same problem, but both end on the post that brings it up (one didn't get past the op)
alright, did more research, found out that the tablet runs down to 70% before the keyboard kicks in to charge it back up to around 90%, then the keyboard runs down to about 3-5% before allowing the tablet to discharge again.
seems like a strange way to do it, but whatever. better than having a dead tablet.

Unfortunately there is a huge outcry that Sony isn't pushing updates fast enough.

Those people should get LG phones. That'll change their minds about what is "fast enough". :v:
But really, no Android manufacturer is pushing updates fast enough.

I have to agree here. And fucking carriers are making it worse. Verizon's little jelly bean push to the RAZR has me pretty pissed.
It shows that Motorola has had the update ready and Verizon is just sitting with their thumb up their ass.
Anyone here ever try spamming the predictions on SwiftKey? It gets... weird, fast.
Look:
I have been a while. I have been a while. I have been a while. I have been a while. I have been a while. I have been a while. I have been a while.

Motorola is trying hard to fix their awful reputation in Android world since a few months, that likely has something to do with Google since they bought Moto (although Google claims they will not interfere at all it really just looks like Google is in control right now and giving the orders) but Verizon is effectively crushing their efforts.
tl;dr Carriers should really stay out of this. Only allow them to have an account monitor app (showing your monthly balance of texts, data, call minutes etc) and maybe a default wallpaper for that "You bought that phone from <carrier>!" effect.
Except for the special phones that were made for the carriers in the first place, like the Vodafone Smart.
Carriere still fuck phones up. It's about customer experience improvement. Lol nope carriers break everything. :-(

The predictions making up weird sentences have been a joke for quite a while. On April 1st last year swiftkey team even released an app that consisted of only a spacebar and their prediction system.
Testing SwiftKey predictions :

Welp
Is there any way to boost the overall volume my galaxy S3 is pumping out? (by the way, the music player is actually really good, and the EQ is awesome, with about 20 presets and then a detailed custom EQ setting)
I'm not some masochist who wants to deafen himself with music, it's just my current headphones are designed for DJing and sound quiet as presumably they are created to have more power put through them, meaning I have the volume on it's highest setting and it's just not quite there for me

You need a portable amp.

Good joke. I couldn't even find a fucking Xperia TL at corporate stores. I only managed to find an Ion that was a working demo in some random Chinese authorized retailer that my parents used to go to :v:

This assumes that Qualcomm doesn't pull some bullshit with the next gen MDM9x25 modems and make it so that you have to use a Snapdragon to have a fully functioning phone.
Also I have a feeling Samsung will announce it around March or April, MWC is too soon unless they're going to just preview it.
