No. Buying an i9000 is a waste of money, I own one and I wouldn't buy another even if offered it for like $20.
you say this with no real reasoning and then you attack others for not using "reason" (even though saying that its a good media player at a twenty dollar price point is a good reason)
Was giving my advice, I was not trying to build any form of argument. Here's some "reasoning" and why it's not good even as just a media player.
It has an awful display, and it really makes videos look poor. It has very little free RAM on Gingerbread and even less on ICS/JB ROMs. The battery life isn't anything to praise, and the CPU is old enough that Google won't even support it on their own device that uses it, the Nexus S. It's not worth buying in basically any circumstance because there are better options for similar amounts of money. Why buy some sluggish stuttery i9000 for $20 as a media player when you could buy something like a Samsung Focus for $40(which I have done) and not have to contend with the troubles of either pre 4.x speed, or 4.x speed on a 512MB device.
look at the pot call the kettle black
I never contended with any statement. Had I, I would have reasoned it out. Not pot calling the kettle black. Nothing says a single advice statement based from experience requires a damn essay accompanying it to be valid, but proper arguing sure does require evidence.
If you can grab an used i9100 in good condition, that would probably be a good deal.
I agree. That's the phone I'd go for if you need to buy an older one for price reasons, but don't want to be stuck with something really bad. It can actually run newer Android versions competently because the hardware has aged very well.

he said audio quality not gaming performance nor video quality and i understand the audio quality to be pretty good with what i believe to be a wolfson dac
though i will say my gs1 battery will last for a few days without a charge but anecdotal evidence so heh
also runs my hd house episodes well enough back when i watched about three episodes a day on the bus
This thread has way too much drama for a thread about phones

this is drama?
i thought it was just a conversation

I thought of it because I actually requested an used i9100 as a Christmas present.
Mom went and bought a new one instead, I ain't complaining. Runs CM10.1 nicely.

Media refers to more than audio. Audio being good is a separate thought, for a separate merit. If you want to talk about things not mentioned, I never mentioned gaming performance.
Your house episodes running well enough doesn't really mean anything. Not sure what that's supposed to be proving.

And it will actually get official Jellybean for those who want it. It's not EOL yet, although it unfortunately will be soon despite what it is capable of.
Thats another thing I was gong to say, whats it like for games? I read it actually has a gpu which is more than mine has.
Also surelly ram cant be that bad, my phone has 256mb and with 4.x installed it still had bout 70-100mb free

but he said
"Especially as a media player considering it has excellent audio quality."
meaning that media functionality is good considering the fact that the audio quality is excellent, so i had assumed he was focusing on the audio concept so i did too
my bad with the game assumption, i had assumed that in a media context, low ram and weak cpu would be used mostly for gaming and probably not for audio
and the house episodes goes to show that yeah despite low ram and weak cpu it renders 720p video thats roughly an hour long at a consistent frame rate with no slow downs which is good enough for most people

What kind of games? Even on XDA where they pretend it runs perfectly, they'll tell you 2.2 is where you stay for gaming performance because of RAM. Even games like fruit ninja are sluggish on 2.3 or custom 4.x ROMs compared to Froyo, it's even worse for 3D games.
I just rebooted my i9000 running 4.1.2 and killed every app right away. 110MB free.
eh my sis' old droid eris can run gba emulators just fine which actually suprised me
it also opened psx emulator without crashing and started playing but at 5 fps

The more popular 2d games, things like angry birds, bad piggies...
Angry birds is slower, just tested it.

Seriously just, don't get an Android phone that isn't a decent dual core with a gig of RAM.
I think you're forgetting that some people don't need powerhouse phones/can't afford anymore
Then my advice would be to wait. If it's something you may have for a lengthy period of time, make it something decent.
That's not the point, a lot of people just want a phone that makes calls and browses somewhat acceptably
I have a tablet, a laptop and a computer for any actual work
My old Epic 4G ran games like Angry Birds and Bad Piggies just fine. If I'm not mistaken, the internals are the same as the i9000 (right?)
im probably gonna keep using my galaxy s 1 for a few more years because i only use it to make calls and occasionally take a picture and do some quick touch ups
a cheap ass single core phone on Donut can still do calls and texts pretty well
and that's all some people give a shit about

Yup but it's not running 4.x.
2.x is the Android OS for smartphones that might as well be featurephones. 4.x is usually for the higher end stuff.
Then again, like 60% of Android devices are still running 2.x, so you have to support it.

Yes, it was. It ran ICS just fine.
Yes, it was. It ran ICS just fine.
Then you were using a custom ROM, and your games were not running as well as they did on stock.
[editline]1st January 2013[/editline]
Oh and what's the metric for "just fine"? Loads of stutters in 4.x ROMs on my i9000, and animations are smooth but not really fluid.

So what exactly is your point? The i9000 sounds like the perfect phone for him and it only costs $20.

Is Gingerbread going below HALF of devices just too much to ask?
id personally gauge it by "it does everything needed to do with little slowdown at the intended framerate"

No, the $20 thing was what I said, you should re-read the conversation because I think you misread it.

But the intended for JB is 60 and it's definitely nothing above 40 on a Galaxy S. I'm just saying for something that runs games, and runs 4.x well, the i9000 isn't a superb choice. Even something like a Desire HD would be better to have running a custom 4.x ROM simply because of the RAM.
