For some reason, on Cyanogen, I can't overclock from the performance menu thing, the max clock is 1.2GHz. Isn't that governed by a kernel setting or something? I really want to try pushing this thing but I haven't bothered with it because of that.
Only Overclocked my s2, went up to 1.6. It was using cm7.
Use this to drain battery fast https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=jp.gr.java_conf.taketake.KyusokuHouden
What's ideal for tagging music? I use iTunes but a lot of the album artwork isn't showing up on my phone.
Poweramp! My favorite part is being able to do this with the widget (provided you have a launcher that allows you to resize it)
How do you get the buttons over the album art like that? [editline]o[/editline] Ah, figured it out. Had to select anything but the "large player" widget.
You'll have gotten a new phone long before burn-in actually gets to a noticeable point
Actually, just throw up a full screen pure blue picture. Have fun with freaking out. [editline]2nd January 2013[/editline]
Guys, any ideas on the fastest way to kill the battery on a phone? I need to do a full discharge cycle for battery calibration in this random app I found, testing a random battery I ordered from DX. GTA3 was fairly good, but it's not enough. I was thinking maybe seeding a torrent for the latest Ubuntu release, through HSDPA, while playing GTA3?
What the fuck kind of phone are you using that requires a battery calibration cycle? [editline]2nd January 2013[/editline]
What is your guys opinion on the htc one x plus? Thinking of buying one.
My opinion is that I wouldn't buy it personally, not when we're literally just a month or two away from all the OEMs announcing their next gen products.
Plugged my mouse into my phone wtf this is so cool now all I need is a keyboard and I can finally respond to texts efficiently, I hate touch screen keyboards, I can't keep a good flow on them as I need to correct myself and I can't feel the keys :v:
What the fuck kind of phone are you using that requires a battery calibration cycle?
It doesn't require it, I just want to know how much they're lying about the battery capacity. I mean, it is a fucking 10USD battery straight from China.
[vid]https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LoXpLUr5WB4&feature=player_embedded[/vid] 85 new posts and no talk about this? Wow.
It doesn't require it, I just want to know how much they're lying about the battery capacity. I mean, it is a fucking 10USD battery straight from China.
You can use an actual battery tester, you know?
Uh, should my nexus 4 be getting this hot? [t]https://photos-4.dropbox.com/t/0/AADOjQCzP65u4ZojdjKJyuTOhxsMOiknWqkmr8vwDokyJQ/10/20973870/png/1024x768/2/1357178400/0/2/Screenshot_2013-01-03-00-53-35.png/4KnHk7jJiuqxJhVGksEpr2xC879ujpVPIuxLqMuDHoc[/t]

Fuck, did a reset on my phone and it looks like tethering still doesn't work.
You can use an actual battery tester, you know?
You mean like a multimeter or something? Haven't got one. Okay, now I'm really confused. I did a factory reset and skipped past everything on the setup, went straight to tethering and tried to connect my nexus 7. Nothing. EDIT: I wonder if Rogers changed my plan or some shit... I wouldn't put it past them. EDIT2: Great going, Rogers. You've changed the plans page yet again, so it doesn't actually list the individual data plans, only the packages. MyRogers doesn't help, other than saying I have the "Smartphone 500 MB Data Plan". I'm not the owner of the account (Family plan), so I'll have to get my mom to call in. Lovely.

I've heard a lot of people say that stock runs the hottest for them, which isn't surprising considering custom kernels tend to be more optimized.
which isn't surprising considering custom kernels tend to be more optimized.
That's something I've never understood. How come some guy called Bob can make a better kernel in his free time than a team of programmers working for a phone manufacturer or Google? Why not just do it right the first time round?

Felt pretty good, actually. Mouse4 acting as the back button felt really natural.

Why not just do it right the first time round?
Because they're willing to take more risks or spend more time doing more hacky types of things to try to squeeze out as much performance as possible, not to mention they're able to implement patches from vendors and release the update in very little time, without doing all kinds of production-level QC and such. For example, Qualcomm released a patch that fixed a wakelock bug a few days ago, and it's already integrated in multiple custom kernels out there, but there hasn't been an OTA from Google since 4.2.1, which was in the end of November. On some devices, mine included, it brings idle battery consumption from 3%/hr to less than 1%. Who knows how long it'll be before Google pushes an update that includes the fix? [editline]2nd January 2013[/editline] Not to mention compiler optimizations and parameter tweaks (OOM/sysctl/timers/governors/schedulers) and so on.
I find it slightly hilarious that quality control lowers quality.
Because it's Ubuntu, it's Linux, it belongs in the Linux thread, not the Android thread.
meanwhile my /r/Android about exactly that is sitting at -33 karma also they told me to skip the post if i don't like it, which sounds suspiciously similar to "don't like it, don't use it" and with their claims about how xda is terrible, it really makes you wonder
Anyone got any comments to share on this? I found it on XDA, so I'm not exactly trusting the whole thing, but I was thinking about ordering one. Seems like a nice concept, and I seriously need the phone to be bulkier, it feels weird to hold in my hand when it's so slim. Not to mention more battery life woop

Whoever mentioned Poweramp above, thank you. I installed it on my Zen Touch 2 (yeah, laugh it up) and it's finally reading the songs that would cause every other app I tried to force close. And dat widget. But damn, 4 bucks.....
