Will I lose the ability to update OTA if i install the apk?
Oh you will. You fucking will and I'll tell you that now.
i can easily survive on the 16GB in my Galaxy S. I have quite a bit of music, and i need to remove allot as i dont listen to it [editline]4th January 2013[/editline]
Thing is, I love the onscreen buttons idea. Customizable, rotates with the display and all that. The presence of a hardware button on my phone annoys me and I have taken measures that minimize me from clicking it. Plus, S3 is still using a dedicated menu button. Yuck. And as Kaabii said, it's nearly one year old already. I guess from the list of things it kinda looks like I should get the N4 instead. Even space is not much of a problem, ~12GB in the phone should be enough. I have tons of shit I never listen to and use in my current phone anyway, and I still don't max out the internal 16GB storage. typo fixed
sounds like the Nexus 4 is for you then. Its what im getting if it comes back in stock on the play store in my lifetime
.1 inch larger It is not noticeable at all.
You can notice a difference in screen shape though. Slightly larger on the S3, with a different aspect ratio. If you look at the N4 or Optimus G you can notice how it's not quite as long and skinny as 16:9 phones.
Will I lose the ability to update OTA if i install the apk?
OTA updates would remove the root from the phone, installing the apk wouldn't change anything though
There's only one more thing i worry about though, will it affect my phones ability to call through my service provider? (Telenor)
No.
No.
I'll get right at it then!
OTA updates would remove the root from the phone, installing the apk wouldn't change anything though
I used root keeper when I installed the JB update verizon accidentally pushed. It kept. I just want to make sure it won't change it to the point that an OTA will become incompatible and fail.
I'll get right at it then!
what phone do you have, exactly? [editline]3rd January 2013[/editline]
I used root keeper when I installed the JB update verizon accidentally pushed. It kept. I just want to make sure it won't change it to the point that an OTA will become incompatible.
Installing an apk wouldn't really change anything, I'd be more concerned if you flashed the .zip version of the 'fix'
Rooting does not void warranty in the EU.
YUROP, FUCK YEAH!
Hm, I'm not finding any guide on rooting my Sony Xperia V :/ [editline]o[/editline]
what phone do you have, exactly?
^
.1 inch larger It is not noticeable at all.
Yeah, then how much display is taken up by the software keys again?
Installing an apk wouldn't really change anything, I'd be more concerned if you flashed the .zip version of the 'fix'
I don't mess with flashing stuff except the OTA file I got from from XDA.
I don't mess with flashing stuff except the OTA file I got from from XDA.
then you shouldn't have any problems, don't quote me on that though
it'll get overridden by an OTA anyways.
After not using my S2 for about 2 weeks, and instead being on my N4, it feels so OLD now. The screen just looks awful and everything feels laggy, even on 4.1 jelly bean. Only thing I miss is the lower power button, because the one on the N4 is too high for my preferences.
Rooting does not void warranty in the EU.
TIL
I'm trying to update my galaxy s2 i777 to ICS, because it's on 2.3.4 Gingerbread right now, and it's saying that my phone is up to date, instead of being extremely out of date. What's a way to manually upgrade to Samsung's stock firmware without doing roms and such?
If rooting doesn't void warranty in EU (this is awesome news to me), what about flashing ROMs?
Not likely. I sync my photos to Dropbox and only keep 30ish of the most recent ones on my phone. I hardly watch videos on my phone, except for YouTube. A few games will fit. Even the bigger ones. Music will also fit. Using Play Music isn't really an option YET because I cannot find a reliable service that lets me activate it. Fucking proxies and whatnot get stuck after the accept button. And that still leaves room for porn
I feel like if I had a high end phone with mobile data and everything where it's very good, I could live with 16gb...

It won't add to your flash counter or anything, it's basically a manual upgrade.
Christ, I can't figure out which ROM to get for my Razr. Any suggestions?
Reporting back on the app that was posted earlier. Someone posted a benchmark generator in the xda thread. With the app force stopped, the benchmark had me at around 69... milliseconds. After turning on the app, it put me at around 53... milliseconds. Not quite twice as fast, but the gains are not icicle, especially when opening an app like chrome or typing with the swiftkey flow beta. [editline]3rd January 2013[/editline] Its hard to find good Roms for the RAZR because of the locked bootloader. Eclipse isn't bad, from what I've seen. I've never run it.
If rooting doesn't void warranty in EU (this is awesome news to me), what about flashing ROMs?
Only if it can be proven that it definitely can cause a hardware failure. So I can understand flashing the wrong radio would void it. [editline]got lost in a forest of browser tabs[/editline]
no other way at the very moment [editline]3rd January 2013[/editline] my NAS isn't turned on and i can't mount it for some reason
Airdroid, unless you don't have wi-fi
Hm, I'm not finding any guide on rooting my Sony Xperia V :/
Binary's method doesn't work on the new Xperia Devices, seems like you need to flash it onto your phone.
It might be placebo effect, but it did seem faster to me... The only major difference I noticed was that Maps loaded the local map almost instantaneously
Well, that "placebo effect" cured my "cancer" (HTC Wildfire with CM7 nightly). I compared it with a friend's stock Galaxy S2 with ICS and the Wildfire applications (phone, messaging, browser, mail) were opening without delays, the S2 had a black screen and then after an instant loaded the app. I was laughing like a fucking hyena while my friend asked what sort of black magic i did.
