[APK] Seeder entropy generator to provide significant lag reduction
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1987032
I uh.. I have no fucking idea what this did, but before I installed this, my YouTube app took like two seconds to load. Now it pops up almost instantly. And Google Now seems faster too.
My phone feels much faster. Thanks.
I've read about the "lag-reducing" app.
Basically, it's a massive security risk. Anything that actually needs /dev/random to be truly random will be using non-random data, which means that it's possible to break many types of cryptography, usually with stuff like SSL and such that are used for banking and secure logins.
but why do things like youtube (which get a noticeable speed boost for me) use /dev/random instead of /dev/urandom
what do they need it for

/dev/random isn't "truly random" anyway, but it's still pretty high grade randomness. Even if you do use this app, the entropy isn't lowered by that much.
But in any case, if you actually need truly random data for anything you're better off using something like Random.org's random byte generator anyway (assuming it's practical)
Why would image viewing apps need random to load and view images? maybe for slide shows but beyond that it doesn't need it.

Third page king in a row guys, I'm on a roll here!

Maybe the stuff that needs /dev/random is somehow blocking the stuff that doesn't need /dev/random?
Or maybe the JVM just does that.
Android truly is a mysterious beast.
Just got MightyText, pretty nice, it syncs your texts to your computer's browser or tablet.
Incredibly useful as well if you have a bad signal you can just leave your phone on the charger upstairs and respond to texts or get notified of calls.

Does it work pretty well? It would be incredibly handy to not have to carry my phone with me around the house.

Haven't had a problem yet
It shows the message is pending on your phone, as well as successful and I Haven't had a problem with it yet, there's also a chrome extension that can show you notifications without the site open.

Holy shit I'm texting a friend with it right now, it works perfectly.

Interesting, showed this app to a friend, and he's liking it as well. Except he pointed out that it also shows his phone's battery life. Doesn't with my Galaxy Nexus for some reason.
Not really a deal breaker, since my phone will mainly be on the charger when I'm using this anyway, but I wonder why. I know his phone is running Gingerbread and I'm running 4.1.1. Maybe its a feature that doesn't work with this version of Android?
I believe airdroid has the same functionality but you have to connect every time and you must keep the browser Window open all the time.
they wouldn't dare
It's pretty much out there. I doubt they'll release a tizen phone without an Android equivalent, though.
I could see them releasing an S3 with tizen, for instance. perhaps releasing the S4 with both.

Good thing I don't do web banking or similar on my phone.

Never used Google Voice so I don't know, but I'm not a full voice user anyways and already have unlimited text with my plan. Also where's google voice allow you to send SMS?

Yeah, i uninstalled partially because of security.
An uninstall would take care of it, yes? Like, there wouldn't be any residual threats?
Third page king in a row guys, I'm on a roll here!
Congratulations on your achievement which noone gives a fuck about
it's really not that big a deal
unless for some reason those services and things aren't actually running (and believe me, you'll know if they aren't running)
it just bugs me so much

Yes. If you turn it off it will switch everything back to default.
My dad got the Samsung Tab 2 7.0 and holy shit that camera is a load of crap beyond believe.
That image noise is low as fuck. Used friends Note 2 and took photo of my phone, you could see the fucking pixels on the screen.
i'd be a bit scared if I couldn't see the pixels on the screen

Google voice isn't available outside the US and maybe Canada.

Looks like HTC is finally implementing the "One" strategy in earnest. 8 versions of the M7, just with different letters tagged on, presumably for carrier variants and regional variants.
so my battery life as well as the performance of my phone increased with that speed up app thing

I didn't notice a thing when I used it on mine, did I need to reboot or something?

I think I'll wait with rooting my Xperia V until there's an easier method available.

Being blind would make me scared too.
Why the fuck is the Youtube app for Android tablets like a million times better than the one for phones?
Why the fuck is the Youtube app for Android tablets like a million times better than the one for phones?
Because of screen size?
