Because of screen size?
Yeah. The apps are built for the lowest common denominator; people with poor vision or people too dumb to understand higher density information. It is possible to use tablet mode on your phone though if you are interested.
How? And can I get rid of the subscription feed in it?
They should make a tick box in settings to swap the layout but Google are too durp to come up with simple and useful ideas like this.
I'd rather leave out the damn recommendations feed.
I've been wanting to know for the longest time how to make the YouTube app keep in landscape mode even if I want to lie down on my side.

Toggle auto rotate in settings/notification bar. Durp
The YouTube app ignores that though.

You used to be able to double tap the video in portrait to keep it locked in full screen. No idea how that helps you now though.
Gaah, why is there no good app to stream .avi over DLNA. I used MediaHouse and that Bubble app and still, nothing, it doesn't even show the files.
When I access the folder through Astro File browser the only option is to download it and I don't want to do that.

AFAIK .avi isn't really supported by DLNA.
Total Commander does support streaming from a typical windows fire share (or SAMBA)
The alternative is to have a minimal web-server serve a read-only html list of files and stream over that (think Nginx Light)

set up a samba share instead of DLNA (dlna is really bad)
then just ES explorer/Solid explorer and open them in MXPlayer
if you want to set up a samba share in windows just make a network folder
[editline]4th January 2013[/editline]
heck even FTP works well enough if you're that desperate
[editline]4th January 2013[/editline]
if you don't know how to connect, just do a scan in ES explorer or add the IP manually if you know it
It works perfectly fine over windows. And it really is just a flash drive I plugged into the router loaded with some pictures and movies that I want to view on the Galaxy Tab 2 . Pictures work fine.
so my battery life as well as the performance of my phone increased with that speed up app thing
Performance = increased
Battery = decreased
What am I doing wrong?
but why do things like youtube (which get a noticeable speed boost for me) use /dev/random instead of /dev/urandom
what do they need it for
Youtube doesn't even use it directly, afaik its just a java function in dalvik that most things use
Anyone know how to make the Youtube app on the Nexus 7 not default to HD?
Anyone know how to make the Youtube app on the Nexus 7 not default to HD?
There should be a button on the player to turn on/off HD, if not in the settings.
Is there any way to apply a border to any widget?
I want to apply a ~5px gray border to the music widget on my homescreen.

For some reason the HD on/off button doesn't show up until it's loaded a bit of the video for me. There doesn't appear to be any option in the settings.

The thread said that battery might decrease, so your mileage may vary.

games always use the random function, using this may mess up games, or make them not as random and more predictable.

Its not like it replaces randomness with a static number or something, it just feeds /dev/urandom into /dev/random to create more entropy for the system to use

i think that was a joke
So Uh, this game bike race, it turns on my screen when I get a notification (for the game), what the fuck is up with that.

Its hard to tell.
Also, it seems that the whole lag-reducing thing is more of a placebo than anything else:

Oh well, before you know it a placebo makes for the best painkiller :v:

I'm glad I didn't try and pretend to myself my phone was faster, I uninstalled the app the same day because it didn't feel like it did anything
the only thing I noticed was instead of showing a splash screen when I clicked on an icon on my home screen, the UI would freeze with the icon highlighted, then launch into the app, and that looked ugly
The only conceivable reason some devices may feel faster is because by constantly polling the PRNG, it keeps the device's I/O in constant use (which in turn, depending on device, will make the CPU stick to higher clock frequencies to keep up and/or ramp up the IO scheduler).
I guess so.
I really really want to make an openbox-style app drawer for android

Except maybe a little more touch-friendly (aka bigger)
that would be so cool
