imho most modern android phones look very smooth, just not at the microscopic level you seem to analyze everything at kaabii
You can pretend it's just me, but Apple and the Ubuntu team take indirect jabs at Android's performance in their marketing, because they and their users see it's an issue. Statements like "using the hardware to its full potential" and "hardware and software that work together", they're not exactly directed at Windows Phone.
while I do agree android could be improved a lot speed-wise it's nowhere near as bad as a lot of people make it out to be
In the launcher and stuff it's actually pretty great. I was messing around with a Nexus 7 for about an hour this morning and it was very pleasant. But then I opened Chrome and it was awful, and I thought maybe it was just Chrome, but other apps like Twitter and Yelp and Facebook and Steam all seemed rather mediocre performance wise.

my nexus 7 makes me cry with its performance
In a good way or a bad way? for £200, it's already blown me away. Fantastic little device for the pricetag
My Nexus 7 seems like it has to take a breather every so often. Brilliantly smooth, no lag whatsoever etc. And then all of a sudden, animations are extremely choppy, recent apps takes like 4 seconds to load, and just seems ridiculously slow. Give it a minute or so, and its perfectly fine again. No unusual battery drain, like 400 MB of RAM free, just no obvious reason. Did it on stock and still does it on SmoothROM (although not necessarily as severe). Maybe I need to mess with the kernels or memory/CPU settings or something.
Never experienced anything like that. (CM10 nightlies here)
Never experienced anything like that. (CM10 nightlies here)
Maybe I could try CM10. And who knows maybe its an app I have installed. Its just so random you never know when it hits. It could be in 20 minutes or 4 hours. No rhyme or reason, and it only lasts for a minute or so. I have a hard time believing its the hardware, so its must be the ROM/kernel, setting, or app in the background.
I've experienced that on my stock N7. Sometimes it just snarls up for no descernable reason and is fine again under a minute later.
eat a one metric tonne of dicks
fix'd the contest :)
Apparently after being dropped in a stream then left to sit in a bag of rice for 4 hours the Nexus 4 appears to be running just as normal as ever. The scratches seem to of gone, maybe I was a dumb-wit and mistook hairs for scratches.

I haven't had any major lag issues with my stock Nexus 7 except when switching users.
Why is there no comma on the stock 4.2.1 keyboard? It's driving me nuts... It used to be to the left of the space bar, but now that button is used for changing the autocorrect language. I keep switching by accident, its really annoying.

Does anyone else use their phones to type up word documents and stuff?
Does anyone else use their phones to type up word documents and stuff?
I remember when I used to have my HTC Legend I used it to read/write essays on the bus between home and school. It's wasn't idealistic but it worked fine.
saw the Sony Xperia Z in YouTube and news outlets, looks nice and has good specs
ok, so how the fuck do you back up contacts to google? I'm sick of there being zero clear answers anywhere. I want the 92 visible contacts on my phone to be lumped in with my google contacts so I can tell Motorola to fuck off with their way of listing contacts. Now, these 92 contacts are the only ones showing out of about 160. How do I get these fuckers backed up? And no, syncing to google only works for new contacts, and some of these are older PHONE contacts from the SIM. [editline]8th January 2013[/editline] To clarify, I want to backup these 92 specifically. I will then delete all my contacts from my phone, sync to Google, and use Google as my primary phone book.
HOLY SHIT HOLD ME Snapdragon 800: Quad core Krait 400 cores @ 2.3 GHz on 28nm HPm TSMC process 800 MHz LPDDR3, dual channel Adreno 330 LTE cat. 4. Oh there's also the Snapdragon 600 but that's just an APQ8064 with upgraded Krait and overclocked Adreno 320.
Xperia Z and Xperia ZL will launch on Android 4.1 (Jelly Bean) and will be upgraded to 4.2 shortly after launch for the latest Android user experience.
Oh come on. There's no reason it shouldn't be on 4.2.1.

Impulse got a Nexus 4 but should I have thought about it first? Everyone keeps saying get an S3 but I think it looks ugly as sin. Anything to know about? Had the Desire HD for two years now and I had no need to upgrade, does everything I want it too, it's just getting a little aged now and the battery cover has started falling off.
as far as I'm concerned the only real advantage the S3 has over the nexus 4 is upgradable storage, but I personally would have trouble filling up 8 (or 16) GB of internal storage anyway frankly I'd take the nexus just to have official support for the newest version of android as soon as possible
but I personally would have trouble filling up 8 (or 16) GB of internal storage anyway
I don't know how you manage. I'm currently using about 20GB of storage on my phone and I have no videos or big games. Storage is a must.
I have no idea how much storage it has, 8gb or 16gb, It just says "LG E960 PHN INSUR" on the order confirmation, I've not filled the 8gb miniSD in my current Desire HD after two years of use so it should be fine. I honestly don't use my phone a whole lot, reading Pulse, a phone call every now and again. I find tethering extremely useful though.
