I see you can into sentence also
I haven't been paying attention for a while, is there an iPad mini sized and high-end android tablet?
I really like the size/screen, but seeing as how I'm an android dev getting an iOS device would be a little silly.

Shuttlecraft got its name from the big "Shuttle" printed on the sides of its case
Aviator's named after a deck of cards
the other three just came randomly

I would personally recommend the Nexus 7.
It's a little smaller than the Mini, but at the same time it has a higher resolution.

I only named my desktop, Navi :v:
my other machines get a name like freeNAS-media, t61p-netbook etc

It's too bad Google doesn't really care about the quality of the panels going into their devices. The Nexus 7 is much sharper which really helps with reading text but the picture overall is noticeably worse due to the calibration.

Are there any possible fixes for the calibration, maybe a kernel patch of some sort?
It's definitely a nice screen, but at times it's really bleh

Not really apart from maybe fucking around with some color sliders and pretending that fixes the color. The issues with the image contrast and gamma are there to stay. THAT ALL BEING SAID...
I actually can't stand the iPad Mini after owning the Retina one. To the point where I might actually get a Nexus 7 just for the text rendering being much better.
[editline]10th January 2013[/editline]
Also whoever designs the Android gallery apps should be BANNED from ever having a career in programming again. Up until 4.0 it only did 16bit color, and now it does dithered 18bit. When you can't render pictures without crippling the color quality you're doing something wrong. Even Windows Phone which runs the UI in 16bit to make developers design with their color guides without stuff like gradients still has a 24bit gallery app.

I think the 2nd gen Mini might be a little more nice, but for now the mini just feels really odd in-hand
She's also getting a bit tired of iOS now, same goes for me. The design scheme is [I]really[/I] getting on.
At the current moment in time would you guys still recommend the S3? Or would it be better to wait it out a little bit? My current i9000s touch screen is on the blink and has started phantom typing.

If you can't wait, it's still very much so one of the better/best phones on the market.
I'd honestly just wait for the next generation

I like everything about it except the resolution. Android tablet apps suck too much for me to even consider buying one. I'll just buy an Android phone and the app will display exactly the same info on a 4.7" display as it does on a 7" or 10" one.

I haven't had an anywhere near bad experience with this supposedly apparent bad app scaling, even less so in Tab UI.
Scaling isn't necessarily bad, it works perfectly in a lot of cases and doesn't need to be improved much
I don't really think seperate apps is the answer

By the looks of things that's likely to be the back end of April, start of May, right?
I mean, what's the problem if it displays the same information? If there isn't any room for improvement, why change? 7" isn't huge, 4" isn't small. They're similar sizes and it's hard to really make applications any better on either device
I'm sorry but that's just so wrong.

Huge room for improvement. Scaling does not work, it's lazy and it defeats the purpose of even having a tablet.

I'm not talking about simple scaling though, scaling can work if it's implemented correctly, more like how things like GTK work
[editline]10th January 2013[/editline]
It's also highly dependant on the app.
Google needs to enforce higher application standards
[editline]10th January 2013[/editline]
Also, people use tablets for other things than what you would use them for, FYI.
Video, images, web browsing, note taking...
As long as my file browser, browser and video player work as they should then I have a reason for a tablet
I'd rather see the focus going towards [I]proper[/I] multitasking rather than perfecting scaling

That's not scaling at all really, if you're having different interfaces based on resolution and PPI to determine what is a tablet or not, then it's making multiple interfaces which is what most Android apps DO NOT HAVE.

Please show where I said "All Android tablets are useless for all users."

Again, that [I]is[/I] something Google should really enforce in apps.
[editline]10th January 2013[/editline]
Google don't really seem to care about it much though, they haven't shown a lot of effort in trying to make tablets a more enjoyable experience
[SUB]I only want to apply this to >10" tablets, I couldn't care less about a more phone-like UI on a 7-incher.[/SUB]

I agree it's much worse on 10" ones, since on something like the Nexus 7 the orientation is the same as the phone so you're not taking a portrait app and stretching it a ridiculous amount to fit a 10" landscape device.
Also Google will never enforce or regulate it. They don't care at all if apps are good at all as long as their market share increases and they get ad revenue. Eric Schmidt said it pretty clearly...
[quote]The core strategy is to make a bigger pie, we will end up with a not perfectly controlled and not perfectly managed bigger pie by virtue of open systems.[/quote]
at least there is a lot of high quality solutions to making phone apps look great on a tablet
like this
[img]https://lh3.googleusercontent.com/-4u2lME936dU/UOrqgEFR6jI/AAAAAAAABxk/PFVEzHvsP-k/s845/13+-+1[/img]
In its continued quest to defy physics, the Nexus 4 drains battery faster when "charging" over USB than it does while idling unplugged.

Well my Nexus 4 was still charging while I was driving to work today. Wireless charging works really well!

A few apps do that for some reason, it's really ugly
ES File Explorer, for one
[editline]10th January 2013[/editline]
the notification also tends to flash a lot when you download stuff over SMB too
It's a little more disconcerting when it's a Google app.
I never understood why they don't use a system skin instead of embedding styles in the apps.

Don't even look at the Google finances app, it's painful.
