so i have two unused androids that are just sitting there not in service, i want to take them apart and make something with them any suggestions?
What phones are they? If it's better than mine, I might want to trade/buy it.
If not, you can run your own server off it such as FTP, Web, Proxy server off it and leave it running in your home 24/7.
I have the i777 and want to know if there are any decent kernels for it. I have the CyanogenMod kernel from the RC build released a month ago, but I've lost 20% in the past 5 hours doing nothing. Better battery stats shows its all kernel wake locks, over 1/4 of what should be sleep or deep sleep was the OS/kernel wasting power. I live in the Midwest and my signal isn't very good, but but this is worse than usual.
It's pretty much all under deleted wake locks Btw, so it doesn't help much
Entropy makes good kernels, so does Siyah.
That battery and a 64GB model should've been included in the original One X launch.
Calling it now, HTC probably had to reorganize the internal layout of the device to make the battery work.
But yeah, HTC really should've launched the larger mem SKU at One X launch, and included the larger battery for all devices.
No one would really give a single fuck if HTC just announced the One X+ with a new color scheme and slightly faster SoC, it would just be good for making sure that new buyers don't get fucked over by buying a first run One X with shitloads of problems because they'd be intermixed with all the later runs that didn't have issues.

In other news, One X JB ROMs already nearing final release for OTA, pretty much done.
So Fido just upgraded their main APN to 4G. I now get faster speeds on my phone than my home connection. (10 Mbit/s on 4G, 6 Mbit/s at home)
'dat HSPA+.
AT&T would be the best carrier if they deployed DC-HSPA+ on all their existing WCDMA towers and then expanded it to all of it's current 2G coverage, then shut off EDGE and put LTE-Advanced towers in places that need extra bandwidth.
T-Mobile is going with this strategy but their spectrum is pretty terrible, it's basically just 1900 PCS and AWS...

Oh, and maybe if AT&T stopped fucking it's customers in the ass. That would be nice too.
I was loving the 58mb/s I got at the subway station.

A scraped down ROM with Linux piggybacking ontop of it.
Nginx for webserver, og use it as a SSH tunnel node
You guys all just hate on apple because you cant afford their quality products. We all know apple is much more superior in every way conceivable.

The only reason I would ever buy an Iphone would be the app store.

Are there any excellent and complete roms for HTC Desire?
On the discussion of the iPhone, I don't hate the iPhone, I just wish they'd stop being dicks with it, like having a special connector and not being able to send music files via bluetooth (it used to be the shit back in school to send your mates a new amazing song you've heard)
I'm glad they understand it needs a 3.5mm headphone jack though, I hated it back when phones used a stupid special headphone/charging port (looking at you Sony Ericsson)
I do love how smooth it is though

I used the latest stable CyanogenMod on my Desire.
Don't forget to flash a custom partition layout to increase the internal application storage, or look into A2SD/apps2ext.
Should I install that leaked JB on my SGS3 or just wait for official release? I wanna try it out.

don't.
I remember when my phone broke last time, I used an ancient Nokia that used to be my mums, and I managed to post in the android thread with it, I found the picture of it just now

The update is supposed to roll out in mid October so I don't see why you need to rush it.
My phone battery is weird. I haven't really been doing anything on it, but it drained quickly from 100% down to around 50% and now it's levelling off.

well you left the screen on for quite a while and wifi's a massive battery hog
I brought her up because she was wrong about the entire UI, not just scrolling. She clearly was incapable of seeing the difference, or she had never actually used an Android device before. If it's the former then she is indeed unqualified, and if Apple of Microsoft saw that she'd probably be on the do not hire list until she got some eye examinations. Back to the actual issue.
Occurs when using either a task killer app or using built in app stopping, on devices with 512MB RAM of lower. I've noticed it seems to be when it drops below ~60-65MB free that it occurs. I really disagree with the notion that it's bad apps. How could Google and all the third party developers keep making bad apps when some of those same developers make WP7 and iOS ones that work perfectly?
[editline]3rd October 2012[/editline]
Oh and I don't know why actual task killing apps exist either considering it's built in, no arguments there.
And that's a very fair question with any number of possible explanations. It could be an explanation as simple as the developers having a strong background in native C++ vs a weaker understanding of Java and the Dalvik VM. While optimization is still important on both ends, the C++ native apps have a little more leeway for less-than-optimal code than the Java ones. Virtualization being what it is, bloat is a lot more noticeable on Android than on a different platform not having to do double duty running the app and a virtual machine.
I guess I shouldn't have referred to them ALL as "bad" apps necessarily. In the case of the Google apps - they're just not designed with low-end devices in mind. The AOSP stuff is always geared towards the latest-and-greatest nexus/google device with the highest horsepower to utilize. If the low-end phones can't handle the extraneous functions like location services, then it's sort of an "oh well" mindset. It sucks, but with android moving so fast it's hard to fight this issue, especially with so many third party manufacturers/handset makers joining the party. This is less of an issue on WP7, and especially iOS because there's only a very, very small handful of devices to worry about, as well as one target build of the OS (whatever the latest is).
It's a shame that this happens, but Google is finally starting to step in by updating their developer docs to encourage developers to build for ICS/JB and integrate the Holo theme into future apps. It might exacerbate the problem for phones not fortunate enough to get ICS/JB support, but this is as good a time as any to try and wipe the slate clean to prevent this issue from continuing to happen in the future.

yeah,, but I just found it weird that it started using less even when I was still on Wi-Fi
oh my god the default cyanogenmod alarm fucking haunts my dreams
(seriously, I can have listened to it in the morning and a few hours later I'm still hearing echoes of it)
I heard it once. My heartbeat still goes up when I remember it.
Fuck, the iPhone 5 is tempting. If a jailbreak comes out for it I might just end up getting one. Only getting it if a jailbreak is available so I can change that damn UI.

I would only get it if there were an Android port. (Fun fact: Android has already been ported to the iPhone 2G, iPhone 3G, and iPod Touch 1st gen using Bootlace.)
I like how iP5 looks, but I couldn't ever force myself to use the OS. No ability to switch default apps, no intents, plus my life is tied to Google services.

I searched the internet and beyond for the sgs2's default alarm/notification thing when I first heard the CM one. Turned out to be too hard, reflashed stock, extracted the sounds and reflashed cm.
Third even page number pageking, wtf am I doing.

Google Sync + Jailbreak can do that.
