I dumbed it down a lot so XDA users wouldn't feel threatened or confused. Many people have been saying that this makes the device perfectly smooth and it seems like many people haven't used any other handsets which are smooth such as the iPhone 4S, any Windows Phone 7.5 device or a stock Galaxy S3 (international). I've decided to get an idea for myself and see if it really is smooth now. So I've been doing some side by side testing against my Galaxy S3 also running on a 4.1 leak with regards to smoothness, both are stock with no mods. Method was purely subjective by eyesight. I like both handsets so don't assume any bias. I've firstly noticed that the S3 as overcome the majority of Android's input lag fairly well whilst the One X is still suffering a bit for it, although not as much as before. The apps I tested smoothness in were: -Play store: My Apps menu, Main page and and app info page -Stock launchers with similar widgets and the same amount of homescreens. -Settings menu just for scrolling -And a play with the notifications menu I can happily say the S3 is pretty much 60 FPS all around but not in older apps not designed for 4.1 which is the case with all JB handsets. But the One X is still behind on this front with the lag mostly noticeable on the launcher. This may be down to the launcher's animations itself and not just lag across the system. On the play store it nearly matches the S3 but it does have a tendency to stutter even when there isn't anything to load (I know Android has a problem with caching). In the menus scrolling they seem to be fairly matched but I feel the over scroll animation of the separate items coming apart does lag a bit still. Lastly we have the notification drawer, this is only really let down by the input lag as everything feels like it's dragging behind. Now I'm going to jump in before hand and say this, I completely understand it's a leak and isn't the final product, because I know a minority of XDA users will jump at me if I didn't say that. I do hope HTC can bring it back up to speed because I love the One X on the design front but I feel the on the firmware side HTC is letting it down. I feel like the OEM should give me a good stock experience without me having to modify it to get what should have been given in the first place.
HTC in general seems to not be fantastic at getting the best performance out of the hardware. Whether this is just a consequence of having to work with off the shelf SoCs or bad code is yet to be seen. Tegra 3 has some pretty crippling issues with memory bandwidth and the like though, no clue if the Snapdragon S4 SoCs will do any better in this department. I find it quite strange that you say the launcher still lags though, they removed all the 3D bullshit back in Sense 4.1 and if anything, there should be less lag in Sense 4+. When I did try the US GS3 and One XL on an in-store demo unit, I noticed that even though the Rosie doesn't really have obvious stutters, the animations feel like they add artificial delays to the device, which felt most evident when going from the extreme left/right home screen back to the primary home screen. In that case, the GS3 was basically immediate and the animation took about the blink of an eye to happen, while the One XL had this very obvious eye candy that took its time. Either way, HTC still seems to have a long ways to go with ROM optimization. Any comments upon render speed/smoothness in the stock browsers?
Anyone know where I can get some really nice wallpapers for my S3?
The stuff in hers http://android.appstorm.net/roundups/customization-roundups/40-android-wallpapers-to-automate-with-llama-tasker/
Found a way to bypass exchange restrictions, now I can use work email without a 32 character password lock on my phone. Pattern lock is my favourite, its nearly as quick as the swipe lock but with the little bit of added security.

I have a pattern that swipes diagonally between two other dots, and it's pretty hard.
I have a hard one too [editline]8th October 2012[/editline] does anyone know how to make it so my spellchecker doesnt capitalize and shit?
It appears to already be doing a good job of not capitalizing judging by your posts.
It's in the keyboard settings.
It appears to already be doing a good job of not capitalizing judging by your posts.
the facepunch app does that [editline]8th October 2012[/editline]
It's in the keyboard settings.
I looked and don't see it what the fuck homie
the facepunch app does that [editline]8th October 2012[/editline] I looked and don't see it what the fuck homie
What keyboard are you even using?
Well, I guess fairy got banned rather quickly. [editline]7th October 2012[/editline] In other news, apparently the V6 Supercharger app fixes the change to multitasking in ICS by changing the services.jar to not have a limit on the max number of running apps. Also can fix HTC's changes to multitasking in Sense 4.
So I eventually found a way to multitask without using my home button. I used notification toggle and set a previous apps button so I just pull down my notification and tap on it to get the previous apps. I also get Samsung style notification bar toggles minus the brightness adjustment.
Hey, so when I posted the rumour that Samsung was working on a new Nexus with a microSD slot, you guys all laughed and said that was impossible. But does it seem so farfetched now that Google has announced that they're relaxing the requirements of the Nexus line so that the only necessity is implementing AOSP? Samsung probably knew about this before the general public did.
to be honest you really should be tagging your music regardless, even if you've got a folder structure
Oh I am, but I still have a decent number of songs that I should fix the tags on, and I'm too lazy to do it. But all my albums are properly tagged with cover arts. [editline]8th October 2012[/editline] oh wow, fairy got banned already?
How do you even go about building a consistent tag library? I feel like I should be using a separate database to track that stuff.
What would be an upgrade from the Galaxy S2? the S3? or another phone?
What would be an upgrade from the Galaxy S2? the S3? or another phone?
I honestly can't see why you'd need a new phone right now since the S2 is still a tank. Personally I'd wait for the next wave of phones like whatever is coming out after the Note 2 or One X+.
What would be an upgrade from the Galaxy S2? the S3? or another phone?
A new Nexus phone when they get released in November!
My sister needs a new phone, so I'm thinking I'll give her my current S2 and get a new android
Well then, the S3 is the way to go with Android at the moment.
I will try to take a picture tomorrow. It's a bright green pixel almost in the center of the screen. If it was a dark one at the edge I wouldn't give a shit...
[t]http://i.imgur.com/cxHXh.jpg[/t] here I decided to go return it tomorrow, since I am waiting on a phone call and don't have phones that accept MicroSIM
HW wise it's by far the best unit out there, but development may be a problem in the future, just like it is now on the S2.
I'd say wait for the oncoming Nexus in November, as you are guaranteed to have proper software updates for a while in the future.
HW wise it's by far the best unit out there, but development may be a problem in the future, just like it is now on the S2.
The Note II is better.
The Note II is better.
It's slightly faster, but it's also a lot bigger and won't work for many people.
It's slightly faster, but it's also a lot bigger and won't work for many people.
Yea but he said S3 were the best to date which I replied to that the Note II is better. Just a silly note really. Won't 2GB in ram help with multitasking nicely though?
Yea but he said S3 were the best to date which I replied to that the Note II is better. Just a silly note really.
even with all the drama about samsung not releasing the source code and stuff?
All the source code is out there, what are you on about?
it got a 10/10 on verge (known apple fanboi site) in performance, while the iphone fucking 5 got a 9/10 so yeah id say performance is good
That sort of just goes to show how The Verge is unreliable, not how good the Note II is. The entire review is awful, especially the display portion. Their reviewers don't understand technology. They're just writers who get sent technology to write about.
Bought the S3, it's pretty darn slick!
