That video is a lot like me... But I'm unashamed. Because it's all true.
Yup it's all objectively true, everyone else with their other preferences are obviously just wrong. This kind of attitude is just as bad as Apple users who won't see the merits of Android devices, it belongs confined to places like XDA and Macrumors.
So, its a subjective truth that android devices often double as external storage for other devices, have larger screens than i devices, use standard micro USB ports, and have a more customizable interface? All of these are facts. What you prefer is your business, and I never said anyone was wrong for what they like. You are seeing animosity where there is none.

Not everyone wants widgets, some people are content with clicking an app or pulling a side drawer or something to see the weather, some people are content with their small screen or even prefer to to a large one. I think you missed the entire joke of the video if you think it's some documentary about Android features.
I can understand why you would expect that kind of closed-mindedness, but I assure you, that ain't me.
I can understand why you would expect that kind of closed-mindedness, but I assure you, that ain't me.
Well then I apologize, I thought your post was in agreement with that type of closed-minded behaviour. I definitely understand that the video does lay out a bunch of facts like USB mounting, the fact that the screens are indeed better regardless of if you like bigger screens or not, etc.
And? Preference is a personal thing. I don't care if you want to spend your money on adapters and other horse shit, it's your money. I got the joke, trust me, and I happen to agree with many of the points, because they are facts about the device. Their value, as you've stated, is subjective. I wasn't talking about their value. You thought I was. Simple misunderstanding.
Newer Android phones usually have better specs than iPhones, larger screen, standard micro USB etc. Doesn't mean they are better devices, it's all personal preference.
So, anyone got a link to the keynote from today that's not on apple's website? I want to watch.
Then again in my opinion all Apple products are a little bit overpriced for the specs but that's just me. I know people that think it's worth the money and thats fine.
Newer Android phones usually have better specs than iPhones, larger screen, standard micro USB etc. Doesn't mean they are better devices, it's all personal preference.
Actually spec wise it's hard to tell now. The A6 beats out pretty much anything but an S4 Pro, but it's unknown how much of that can be attributed to software optimisation. The screen is also better than the S3s that lots of people are rockin'.
By the way, one of the funniest tags on tumblr is Android. Everything from really pretty themes to people bitching about even the smallest of updates to all out hate speech. It's hilarious :P
So, anyone got a link to the keynote from today that's not on apple's website? I want to watch.
Yah someone told me during the stream that you need to run OSX or something ridiculous? I watched it on an iPad so I didn't have an issue, but that kind of limits your audience considering how few people run Macs and how most iOS users aren't going to sit on their phone to watch a freakin' keynote. Or maybe you just need Quicktime? Still don't have that either.
Newer Android phones usually have better specs than iPhones, larger screen, standard micro USB etc. Doesn't mean they are better devices, it's all personal preference.
iPhone 5 still has the best SoC though.
iPhone 5 still has the best SoC though.
LG Optimus G is better with its Snapdragon S4 Quad, although the benchmarks have been nothing special due to the fact that LG touched the software that ran on it. [editline]23rd October 2012[/editline] Oh and Intel's Atom CPU, that thing is damn fast. Wins in most benchmarks it's put in.
iPhone 5 still has the best SoC though.
Yeah, for sure. I thought it was pretty funny that they released a $320 ipad mini to compete against a $200 Nexus 7. Not to say the price isn't justified but they are obviously trying to compete directly with the Nexus 7. Then again, I'm no marketing genius. I suppose they make up for it with how popular Apple products are.
LG Optimus G is better with its Snapdragon S4 Quad, although the benchmarks have been nothing special due to the fact that LG touched the software that ran on it.
I hope Fido will get the LG Optimus G. They seem to like LG phones a lot. (But they don't even the Samsung Galaxy S3!) This is their current line up: LG Optimus L3 LG Optimus L7 LG Optimus 2x LG Gossip Pro Samsung Galaxy Nexus Samsung Galaxy Q HTC One S HTC Desire C so 50% of their phones are LG
Yeah, for sure. I thought it was pretty funny that they released a $320 ipad mini to compete against a $200 Nexus 7. It won't be too hard to get people who are apple-leaning (already have and love an iPhone, but can't justify a $500 iPad) to jump the 100 bones for an apple insignia on the back rather than a colorful "X".

I'll list out things that it does better, or features it has, or whatever. -It's lighter -It's thinner -It's built better judging by the choice of a unibody aluminum design -It has a better screen. It is lower res, but Apple will likely calibrate it like their current devices, which overall sets it above the Nexus 7 which is really inconsistent with its calibration. -It'll be smoother -It has a back camera(I feel ridiculous listing this but it's a feature) -It'll have better tablet apps -It'll do HDMI out(this killed any chance of me buying a Nexus 7) Obviously it won't have many software features that Android does, but people who don't care for that might find it easy to justify the $70. HOWEVER, with rumors/confirmations that Google is going to put out a 32GB Nexus 7 at $249 the choice might become a lot harder, especially if that leads to a 16GB one at $199.
I hate the "cheap plastic" argument. Plastic absorbs shock better than aluminum when you drop the phone. Look at how many Apple products have broken screens compared to Androids. I've dropped my plastic phone about 10 times from waist level onto hard surfaces and it has no damage (except for a few small gouges in the plastic).
I hate the "cheap plastic" argument. Plastic absorbs shock better than aluminum when you drop the phone. The HTC One X does not feel cheap and it's a form of plastic for the body, but Samsung's devices with paper thin back covers and glossy plastic sure don't feel like $600 devices when I use em.

HTC has much better physical design.

I think my Maxx feels 1000x better than the S3. And the new RAZRs feel freaking bulletproof. Aluminium on the iPad definitely feels better than an S3 (or comparable tablet). Which makes me wonder why the fuck apple made phones completely out of glass! That shit breaks, and it breaks ugly.
I'm surprised no Canadian carrier has picked up the Note II. The original sold really well, especially considering how much of a niche device it was and how horribly it performed with that poor Snapdragon S3 trying to push 1280x800. It's like there's a ban on having quad core devices with LTE. [editline]23rd October 2012[/editline]
Agreed. I think my Maxx feels 1000x better than the S3. He just disregards how fragile it is and drops it all the time. It's horrifying.
My roomate is like that. [editline]23rd October 2012[/editline] Is it bad that I prefer Flipboard to Google Currents?
http://techcrunch.com/2012/10/22/samsung-to-cut-the-cord-end-lcd-panel-supply-relationship-with-apple/
Samsung told The Korea Times on Monday that it will end its LCD panel supply relationship with Apple as of next year. That’s according to a “senior Samsung source” who declined to be identified, citing insufficient margins owing to Apple’s supply pricing strategy. Samsung’s role in Apple’s LCD supply chain has dwindled, with the Korean company reportedly cut out of iPad mini production, but Samsung’s decision to pull the plug may have been a pre-emptive strike by the parts manufacturer owing to a declining relationship between the two. Samsung is said to be fielding more orders from its consumer electronics division, as well as from Apple competitor Amazon, in volumes that could make up for the loss of Apple as an LCD component customer. Apple was Samsung’s top customer according to NPD DisplaySearch for the first half of the year, but Apple began cutting its LCD orders back in September and was reportedly shifting order volumes to LG and Sharp, as ongoing patent disputes worsened. Pricing on Apple’s latest iPad display had caused Samsung to earn only half as much per pixel on its production compared to previous models, so narrowing margins clearly had an impact on the decision, but this also can’t help but look like a case of Samsung ending a relationship that was already on the rocks to begin with. Apple was already clearly trying to reduce its reliance on its rival’s component supplier arm, as indicated by changes to the way it designs its processor and sources RAM and NAND flash chips, but this may accelerate Apple’s intended timeline. Apple is a massive customer of LCD panels, and is set to become an even more demanding customer with the impending probable launch of the iPad mini. Earlier, there were concerns about whether or not Samsung’s display supplier competition could produce adequate volumes to satisfy its needs, but Sharp seems to have recently gotten its act together, and others like Sony have reportedly joined Apple’s stable of potential supply sources. The question will be whether or not the timeline Samsung gave of next year will give Apple enough time to stabilize its alternate source. Still, it looks like both have been preparing for this moment for a while, so we could see each walk away relatively unscathed.
This is interesting, because it's not going to hurt anyone but themselves. Apple will just go to LG and Sharp to make the panels they need, and it'll just get worse if Apple moves SoC production to TSMC and buys their NAND elsewhere etc. Hope it was worth it Samsung, could have just licensed some of that stuff like Microsoft and all of this would have been avoided. EDIT: This line is confusing.
Pricing on Apple’s latest iPad display had caused Samsung to earn only half as much per pixel on its production compared to previous models
So half as much per pixel, with 4x the pixels, means you made twice as much per panel on average. What were they thinking!?
Yeah, Rogers sold a lot of Notes; I was surprised.
Yeah, Rogers sold a lot of Notes; I was surprised.
It might be to try and not cannibalize current sales of the S3 which are still very high.

I was talking about why compete with a budget mini tablet with another mini tablet that isn't a budget tablet. The plastic argument isn't valid either, the nexus 7 has the best plastic I have ever felt, its back has a unique soft to touch with a very high quality feel to it. It's very hard to explain what kind of material they use but I would choose this over an all metal design, it is so much more comfortable to hold than any other tablet I have tried.
It might be to try and not cannibalize current sales of the S3 which are still very high.
I am still amazed by how well does the s3 sells A year ago everyone had an iphone, now almost every second person I know has an SGSIII
I wasn't talking about which one was superior, the price tag on the iPad mini seems fair. I was talking about why compete with a budget mini tablet with another mini tablet that isn't a budget tablet. The plastic argument isn't valid either, the nexus 7 has the best plastic I have ever felt, its back has a unique soft to touch very high quality feel to it that gives you a good grip. It's very hard to explain what kind of material they use but I would take this over an all metal design it is so much more comfortable to hold than any other tablet I have tried.
I've used the Nexus 7, as have I with every Android tablet sold in Canada. I know what it feels like. I never said the plastic was "cheap", I said if the iPad mini is built in the same way as Apple's other products are it'll be held to higher quality standards and thus will be a better built device. The "unibody" part in aluminum unibody is a very important part of that statement. The point of listing all those advantages was just to demonstrate how consumers might find ways to justify the $70, and that it's not that much more expensive relative to the price of the 16GB Nexus 7. So a person's definition of "budget tablet" is important here. When a 16GB Nexus 7 is $129 cheaper then it's going to be very difficult to say that the iPad Mini is a budget tablet with a straight face.
