Google should bust out the whip on phone manufacturers so they'd make firmware upgrades for devices that technically easily can run ICS/jelly bean [editline]26th October 2012[/editline] So, uhh. Can that be used for installing Xubuntu?
I'm almost certain Ubuntu Android is a specific build by Canonical, I don't think a derivitive will work. Why would you want XFCE on a 7" tablet anyways?
Although a decent number of small developers that either make their apps completely free or make barely any money from them add as many features and UI support as they can, while a multi-million company just shits on even the basic things. I'm not expecting Facebook to add expandable notifications for example (maybe by 2024), but a tablet UI seems to be a much higher priority, especially now that there's low-cost high quality Android tablets. [editline]26th October 2012[/editline] wait a minute did your nickname change?
Haha yes, I changed it, the old one was...old. Also yah it's definitely just some bullshit from Facebook, but they've always neglected Android in general. Until Google reworks app guidelines for tablets(i.e. don't submit an app that runs on tablets without a tablet interface) I think we'll be seeing lots of very large phone apps on Android tablets for a while. You know what drives me nuts? Steam for Android and iOS on tablets. Valve needs to make a tablet UI already.
Most people don't have tablets in general. They're not too useful for productivity at the moment, although I'll have to use a surface to see if that holds true for Win8 RT + MS Office.
In theory: I'm going to use this iPad for school, take notes with it and do better in school! Realistically: I want a tablet so I can dick around with it, play games, watch stuff and not do anything productive. I haven't tried the tablet versions of apps like Google Drive, Evernote or OfficeSuite Pro but those are already pretty good options for productivity to date.

And about Steam: it's even worse on Android because their UI is even less Android-looking than Facebook, which is somewhat okay looking now but still has some stupid iOS elements.

The Surface was taking too long, and seeing how it's Tegra 3 with 1366x768 and 12GB used by the OS, I'm not too upset that I didn't wait. The alternative was the ASUS TF700T, and right now I think if every tablet except ASUS and Apple ones disappeared, people wouldn't notice that much. There was a bug that was only patched like two weeks ago, where if the app wasn't displayed on the screen you wouldn't receive any messages. You'd get a notification and when you went to the app there was absolutely nothing. It basically made it completely useless. [editline]26th October 2012[/editline] Meanwhile the Android one got like a million updates. You'd think with one of them they'd make it a nice app that went with Google's design guide.
Does anyone know what could cause mobile data to fail until a restart? Toggling airplane mode doesn't fix it, and toggling 4G/3G/EDGE doesn't fix it, only a restart does. The signal is fine, and the data icon shows like it's connected, but it just instantly refuses to transmit any data.

And no I don't use the slide out keyboard so everyone wouldn't hear my typing. One of my friends has a Samsung Galaxy Tab 10.1 or something like that and he says it lags like shit...

Was called the RIL crash bug before they fixed it. Not sure what would cause it though. Tegra 2 is just terrible, that's all I can really say.
I need a new phone, might start saving up for the Nokia Luma 920 coming out soon. It looks fucking amazing and I'm not a big smart phone guy. Fucking wireless charging, how does it work, also I can never use my current touch screen in winter cause of gloves so this would be amazing

The SIII was meant to be released with wireless charging too, that didn't get very far.
Why did Palm die? I wanted a Palm Pre from Bell years ago when it came out...
No you didn't. You were confused. The Palm Pre was a phone that was so badly built it twisted like an oreo cookie. [editline]26th October 2012[/editline] The only reason I got it was is it was free on a 2yr contract with $15/mth knocked off your plan. So when I got my Galaxy S and swapped to a $30 voice plan and the $30/6GB plan it ended up being $45.
What are the features of a windows phone, like can you it like to a Windows PC and stuff. Also do they have java?
i think you accidentally your sentence
Yes, yes I did. I meant "can you link it to a windows PC"

Even though I COULD just install XFCE and un-install UNITY, but that's slightly hacky and might leave unused files behind.
You know what drives me nuts? In other news, HTC's Q3 results still show a downward slide towards oblivion. It's kind of depressing to be able to see a future where Samsung and Apple are the only major players, and every other company either quietly disappears or is basically ignored.
But, but, but I thought it was such a great phone...
No it was awful. It crashed when reading PDFs, it ran worse than 2010 Android devices which is an accomplishment in a bad way, and the build quality was indescribably horrible. [editline]26th October 2012[/editline]
In other news, HTC's Q3 results still show a downward slide towards oblivion. It's kind of depressing to be able to see a future where Samsung and Apple are the only major players, and every other company either quietly disappears or is basically ignored.
HTC deserves it in every way, as someone who's seen how horrible their decisions are I say that with confidence. No company that has intelligent people to make decisions would make their flagship phones exclusive to carriers when they don't have the brand power to do so. It's not like when AT&T had iPhone exclusivity, nobody changes carriers just to have a One X. So when the X is exclusive to Canada's worst carrier, that sort of puts them in a bad spot for getting sales.
Got Dead Trigger update, enjoyed the game, it has such great graphics and it runs pretty smooth yet Gameloft games lag and freeze all the time... Now only if it has multiplayer...

And of course the insane whining about piracy. They never released actual figures for Android so I can't trust those statements, and what they said about iOS was hilarious. “the number of pirates on iOS is comparable with the amount of jailbroken devices.” So almost everyone with a jailbroken device decided to pirate your game? Yah sure.

That thing you guys were saying about small developers adding a lot more shit to their apps than multi billion dollar companies is true Multi billion dollar companies have very thorough release patterns, meaning they have to officially test every change and it just slows everything down. Also, they'll only make a change if it results in profit. Small developers (like me) are motivated by community love.

Meppers, the link to those was posted two pages back. I'm not sure if the article was out when Amiga OS put up the manual.
Back in the distant past with CM7 on the i9000, there was an issue like that. Was called the RIL crash bug before they fixed it. Not sure what would cause it though.
That's weird, because I'm on stock 4.0.3. And apparently after a RIL crash, "You get no signals, and a cross on the signal bars." I still have a cell (voice) signal, and the data icon shows that it's connected, but it just refuses to transmit. So weird. Oh well, it doesn't happen often. Mostly after I've been messing around with Link2SD.

The Play Store version is probably universal but the one in the Gameloft store is not. I don't know how long it takes for them to make builds and such but they have millions to spend, and only if there's money on the other side where the profit is worth it. Android gets Gameloft games weeks, sometimes months after iOS due to whatever reasons. The updates are the same. Either way, small developers like you or me enjoy the feedback and fix things faster than the larger companies who spend more time testing. But then again they have the money, the people and resources to spend. I also see more dedication with indie devs too.
