Also those specs are the same as the MacBook Air(barring screen). However, I'll give you the dock gimmick, but the GPU in it isn't exactly phenomenal either. So it's a MacBook Air that costs much more, has a much better display, but has a silly dock gimmick that fails to impress. As I recall, you had to buy the dock separately, too.
Why not? The Vaio Z is basically the "all out, no compromise, money is not really a concern" option. Just like a smaller version of the the Retina MacBook Pro . It is awesome because it has specs of a typical desktop ( core i7, 8gb ram, 1920 x 1080 screen, 512gb ssd, intel graphics 4000 ). Except that the AMD Radeon[SUP]™[/SUP] HD 6650M (1GB) graphics is in an external dock. Not to mention it is very light and carbon fibre. Which makes it aweome And of course, the premium price. So tell me again why is bringing the Vaio Z up stupid? It is a perfectly fine comparision
It comes with 128 gb. Upgrading it to 256 costs 300. 512 costs 900. And please tell me I'm overlooking something but do I seriously have to fork out 100 euros for a fucking wireless card?
lol @ people who try to compare macs and pcs

A screen, which while is a very high DPI, simply means that everything is really small (unless you dick about with Windows DPI settings, but good luck having a nice experience with that), and as far as I can tell, the maximum spec (performance wise) of a Viao Z is the bottom spec Retina Macbook Pro. The retina Macbook Pro on the other hand, is just as fast, has a universally praised trackpad, a somewhat better keyboard, passable sound, and a screen big enough and with enough OS support to allow high quality rendering of everything, instead of making everything really small [editline]15th June 2012[/editline] The Vaio Z also comes with a god damn VGA port. VGA! On a "slim as we can make it" laptop
Because people buy them.
Because people buy them.
because they have a lot more in the package than Windows machines Cheesemonkey is right, you don't compare Apple PCs to Windows PCs

VGA! On a "slim as we can make it" laptop
Calm down, it's a laptop. And from what I've read the screen has its problems, but it's still gorgous. And about the "making everything smaller" - you can turn that around and say "more workspace". And it isn't ludicrously small, come on. And I doubt they decided "we have to make it thicker" to accommodate the fucking VGA port - VGA is still the most common port, and on my school every teacher is running around with an extra dongle - fucking displayport to VGA. Displayport is of course much more modern, but damn is it hard to come by. Now I'm not saying that the track pad is better, but have you actually tried it? The trackpad on my Vaio is very much passable, without being incredible. And even then, comparing the Vaio Z to the MBP isn't "stupid" - it might not be the best comparison, but we're not that far off. [editline]15th June 2012[/editline]
because they have a lot more in the package than Windows machines Cheesemonkey is right, you don't compare Apple PCs to Windows PCs
Not for everyone - for you maybe, but I have no need for garage band and whatnot - that's that. It's a nice computer, but for what most people use them for (MS Office at my school), the deal you're getting isn't the best, in my honest opinion.
people are literally too stupid to understand that the most important thing in a laptop isn't brute specs with macs you aren't paying for a powerhouse, you're paying for the build quality and the customer service and the user experience and the years and years of direct software and hardware support from apple and yes the price premium is a lot and yes you can get a "better" asus shitbook laptop for half the price. but i don't think theres anyone still using windows laptops from 2006 and there are a lot of people with powerbook g4's
It's a fact that Apple makes expensive but very high quality hardware. Most people can't afford a Mac so they bash apple. Think about this: If you had 2 thousand dollars (2000$), would you buy a bulky non-portable laptop with 2 hours battery and 1920x1080 screen or a sleek and thin aluminium laptop with 2800x1880 retina display that has 7 hours of battery? Yes you trade off a tiny tiny bit o power but you have a really good computer. Also any non-apple laptop loses more than half of it's price in value after about 1 year, while you can still sell a mac for quite a bit
lol the only quality part of their hardware is the glue they use to hide the foxconn manufactured innards, instead of screws. You can never open half of their shit if it breaks. [editline]15th June 2012[/editline] mcdonalds toys of titan companies
p sure whatever sweet company you prefer is cheaper and shittier than foxconn so
that isn't even possible [editline]15th June 2012[/editline] http://www.foxconn.com/ hahaha

I'm willing to pay the same or more for a quality of a computer over the quantity of its specifications. Yeah I could get a Sager notebook (the only company I would consider getting opposed to Apple) with a GTX 680m, 256gb SSD and 1080p 15" screen for $2250. Or I could get a Retina MacBook Pro with a GT 650m for $2300. I'm going to get the MacBook Pro, because I love the feel of the Unibody MacBooks, all of them. They don't flex, they don't bend, they just feel sturdy. Some people prefer having more specs and are willing to put up with all the garbage the Windows world throws at them. That's fine, let them do that. I'm willing to pay more so I don't have to tear my hair out on a daily basis. It's all opinions, people.
people are literally too stupid to understand that the most important thing in a laptop isn't brute specs with macs you aren't paying for a powerhouse, you're paying for the build quality and the customer service and the user experience and the years and years of direct software and hardware support from apple and yes the price premium is a lot and yes you can get a "better" asus shitbook laptop for half the price. but i don't think theres anyone still using windows laptops from 2006 and there are a lot of people with powerbook g4's
I very well understand that the most important thing isn't necessarily brute specs - but sometimes it is. That's why no one (at least anyone with half a brain) would buy a MBP as a dedicated gaymen machine. Not that I would buy a laptop as a gaming machine, but the point is that specs (and OS) matter in this case. Now, I don't know Apple's software plans very well, but Apple has dropped support for their computers numorous times, and it seems that they'll do it again: http://www.tuaw.com/2012/02/16/mountain-lion-drops-support-for-several-older-mac-models/ Now, this isn't the newest computers, but there are some stuff from 2009 on that list. While PCs don't get much direct support from the manufacturer in form of software, this is you being restricted from installing an OS - something that wouldn't happen with a Windows machine, whether you bought it from fucking gateway or not. And if you look at failure rates, Apple's in the middle of the spectrum, ASUS and Toshiba on top, Gateway and such at the bottom. So calling it an ASUS shitbook isn't incredibly intelligent either. And my mom and dad were using a fucking Packard Bell through 8 years, and it didn't break. They're still on a shit computer, but less shit. In case of laptops, I know people that have laptops from 2006 and thereabouts. And I know someone who owns powerbooks themselves, as well.
you are forgetting that when a mac laptop fails you send it into apple and they will repair it for free under warranty or charge you a fee and deliver it back to you easy and simple good luck getting an asus shitbook repaired in an inexpensive or timely manner considering asus has charged people to repair shipping damage also you are forgetting that when a new version os OSX ships they don't just cut all support to previous versions!!!
that's cool but when a new version of a linux distro comes out i just get the newest version for free :~D
enjoy your richard stallman approved open sores software i guess
Linux is great if you [sp]don't[/sp] want to: Play any games Use professional software Enjoy the benefits of a quality desktop environment etc So enjoy your awful GIMP photo editing and OpenOffice while you have to dick around in the terminal to fix the OS while I get to enjoy my Photoshop, MS Word, Steam, and out-of-the-box reliability and ease of maintenance. [editline]16th June 2012[/editline] Keep in mind this is a hackintosh I'm posting from
First of all, if you have no real-world experience with OSX on an Apple system, yet continue refer as if you have, your opinion is valueless and I have no respect for you. In other words, you are talking out of your ass. Now, as someone who used solely Windows for over a decade almost everyday, laptop and desktop, and then invested in a Macbook Pro, the quality justifies the price. The build quality is top notch like no other system. There is no creaking, loose parts, cracked edges, rubbed dull areas, no fading, simple, extremely sturdy, and the essence of a cold metal laptop is amazing. I've lived in an environment full of plastic Windows laptops for a year, seeing the difference first hand. Dropped laptops would either bend the edge of the plastic like cheap rubber or crack open the case breaking the screw threads causing unfixable damage, while mine wouldn't retain of a shred of damage. OSX will retain its responsiveness as it was when you first bought it, while Windows will slow down to a painstaking state. I am reminded how beautiful and elegant OSX is to use with the track pad and gestures every time I use a Windows laptop. I don't feel like going into a full rant though, so this will have to do for now.
I actually hackintoshed this machine (which is my gaming rig) in order to avoid having to use my bogged-down Windows It was both a learning experience and a solution to a problem

It's hard to get people into using Macs though because a lot of them are under the pretense of "omg expensive garbage fuck u" and its hard to get them to get into them when they're so pricey. I first got into macs when my boyfriend gave me his old 2009 macbook pro and after that using any other laptop was a painstaking experience that I can't imagine myself going back to. Same with the operating system, I have my gaming PC just set up to auto start steam and that's pretty much all I use it for.
I actually hackintoshed this machine (which is my gaming rig) in order to avoid having to use my bogged-down Windows It was both a learning experience and a solution to a problem
Lol same here took forever to get working and it's still alright. Just been using it while I wait for my Retina Macbook to come in the mail I wish I could get mine to be a bit more stable everything likes to lock up once in a blue moon and sometimes applications crash for no reason but it's still tolerable for me.
Lucky for me I had all the right hardware for a Kakewalk :v: Easiest install ever, everything works
Lucky for me I had all the right hardware for a Kakewalk :v: Easiest install ever, everything works
Jerk ;w; I used unibeast to install the OS and everything worked except for network, sound and it didn't detect my graphics card properly so I had to spent an entire day trying kext after kext trying to get it to work. Ended up doing it but it was still p. frustrating
All I had to do was run multibeast to get the kexts to apply properly and then boom, everything works It's so reliable I even have Diablo 3 and SC2 installed on it :v:
We don't need people like you shitting up the thread with no evidence and personal bias. How come every time we get a thread like this someone will always come in and spout stupid shit like this? Next time, can you not just spout generic bullshit and actually add to the discussion? Thanks.
Well it's pretty damn true, Macbooks are great and I love them but still the only reason they cost so much is because people will pay the price, there's absolutely no reason for their computers to cost the prices they do except that *shock* Apple/a Company is greedy.

Everything about this thing feels cheap and flimsy, the trackpad is garbage, the screen is dull with crap viewing angles, it came chugged down with bloatware, I had to spend about two hours going down the list in add/remove programs(not allowed to reinstall), and to top it all off, I don't even like the color(black).
i have been using windows computers for around 7 years and a little bit of macbook here and there and i have to agree, 99% of windows trackpads are absolute rubbish. mbp/mba's trackpads are still the gold standard.
It's hard to get people into using Macs though because a lot of them are under the pretense of "omg expensive garbage fuck u"
real talk though how is that a pretense
real talk though how is that a pretense
Due to the price they've never actually owned one of their own so they're under the pretense that it's just an over hyped piece of expensive garbage that people just buy because they look pretty.
