Leopard will still get security updates (like tiger is getting now), what's the problem?
Leopard will still get security updates (like tiger is getting now), what's the problem?
oh, tiger still gets updates? nvm then. still think its stupid that their commercials say 29 dollars when only people who got their mac lately gets it for 29. just my opinion.
I got my imac in 2007 and I get it for $29
I got my iMac in 2007 and I get it for 29 [editline]10:38AM[/editline]
http://www.gizmodo.com.au/2009/08/the-real-cost-of-upgrading-to-mac-os-x-snow-leopard/ also, its bad they already abandoned powerPC, even though thats what they used ONLY up till they got intel chips
We would've never gotten 3 GHz on the desktop or a mobile G5 anyway. [editline]10:38AM[/editline] Part of the point is that Apple has less cruft to support, while Microsoft lives on legacy.
How can these guys bang em out so fast?
Well it's been almost 2 years since the last release so I wouldn't call that fast tbh
and it's not exactly a brand new OS as mentioned it's more of an upgrade
it's pretty brand new, if you've taken the SDK out for a ride.
Newsflash: you can use the $29 installer on Tiger. I just got my WhiteBook pounding through.
Haven't got it yet, tomorrow probs.
I'm trying to figure out if this is just an upgrade or not. If it isn't I'll go and buy it and install it on my PC (since it's already working with my hardware). It would be too difficult to modify everything by upgrading, it would need to be a fresh install. [editline]11:40PM[/editline]
I just called apple. They said the $29 disk is for upgrading only. It will not allow you to wipe the drive and install. He further said that if you want to wipe your drive in the future, you will have to use the Leapord disk that came with your mac, then use the upgrade disk again. If you want the full install and wipe capability, you will need to buy the box set.
That's shit.
Finally ordered my new MBP, hope they include a Snow Leopard disc, seeing as I technically ordered it on the 28th
Finally ordered my new MBP, hope they include a Snow Leopard disc, seeing as I technically ordered it on the 28th
I would call that wishful thinking.
[editline]11:40PM[/editline] That's shit.
Yeah. I'll wait until I get a MBP before I format my iMac, so I don't need the leopard disk (mine is pretty scratched)
holy shit the new clang/llvm xcode frontend is fucking fast I just compiled WebKit in a minute
I would call that wishful thinking.
Well, it usually takes a few days to dispatch, and in the past systems ordered on or close after a version of OS X's release date have had a drop in DVD included to upgrade
I just bought it.
apparently mine doesn't arrive until the 2nd (even though they said the 28th in the email) :( debating wether to format my imac or not.
hurf-a-derf I'm the first person on FP with SL running. Charming.
I think you need to calm down okay
hurf-a-derf I'm the first person on FP with SL running. Charming.
How do you know that
an educated guess, my dear watson
i'm in sl now too
im crying
Finally ordered my new MBP, hope they include a Snow Leopard disc, seeing as I technically ordered it on the 28th
if you just ordered your MBP you have to pay $10 for Snow Leopard if it's not installed or on the recovery disc. you have until December 26, 2009 to get the update http://www.apple.com/macosx/uptodate/
if you just ordered your MBP you have to pay $10 for Snow Leopard http://www.apple.com/macosx/uptodate/
I bought it on the 28th and it still won't be dispatched for a couple of days. So either way, I'm not paying for it
hurf-a-derf I'm the first person on FP with SL running. Charming.
No you aren't, I've had it for 2 months (WWDC build) and the GM build (10A432) since it first leaked.
Put my order in the post a few days ago, because (as I said earlier in this thread) the online up-to-date service wasn't working properly, but it's all fine now. Don't know when it'll arrive though.
Looks like at some point I'm going to have to update to intel at some point. (stuck on PPC :frown: )
