I have a laptop running Windows 7. It just got its first BSOD and I had to restart it. I defragmented it yesterday but i don't see how that could cause any problems. I restart it now, and it goes to the "Starting Windows" Screen and does nothing, it just sits at that screen forever. What the hell can i do? [editline]14th February 2011[/editline] It gives the option now to start in Startup Repair mode but that doesn't seem to do anything either.
specs would be helpful

[editline]15th February 2011[/editline] How long does it usually take for startup repair? It says it might take 'over an hour' to complete.
Okay, so my computer is "back to normal" now, it would seem. Except when i try to run any program it freezes up and takes a shit. I can't even open firefox without it grindign to a halt. This laptop could run photoshop, TF2, Blender and 3 other programs all at once with no lag before i defragged it with this piece of shit defrag program. Can someone point me towards a defragmenter that can properly defrag my laptop and not fuck everything up?
I use Auslogics disk defrag screen saver, they have a normal defrag client aswell. You could give those a try? I haven't had any issues with them. Then there's the Windows defrag aswell which at least gets most of the job done.
I fear that the program i use (MyDefrag, the new version of JKDefrag) is what caused this. Fucking hell. Would defragging again fix the major problems? When i open FF/IE my computer basically grinds to a halt. I open the task manager and it shows my CPU usage is below 10% (there are a few minor spikes here and there) and my memory is at 1.25 GB. What the fuck? I managed to close internet explorer, i go to the task manager and iexplore.exe is still running. I end the task and nothing fucking happens. This is infuriating. The last time i ever use "MyDefrag", that's for sure. [editline]15th February 2011[/editline] System restore is out of the question too, apparently i have no restore points. [editline]15th February 2011[/editline] Holy fuck i think i have a trojan. AsScrPro.exe is running. Google says it's bad. [editline]15th February 2011[/editline] Ok nvm, google is full of morons. It's not bad.
Reboot in safe mode, run MBAM & Spybot S&D & Avast!/AVG/whatever you use. And AsScrPro.exe is an Asus screensaver so unless you never installed that, you shouldn't be worried.
I can't see anything that looks super harmful. The PDF file i had open was an assignment from a secure website owned by my university, i can't see that being the cause of any problem. I find it convenient that my first defrag in months was just last night, and now today i am faced with a BSOD. Pretty obvious that the defrag had something to do with it... Right? I don't have any system restore points so that's out of the question. What would be my best course of action?
