Anyone ever tried watercooling in a 1U Chassis? Needing to overclock an i7-6700k, air cooling was pretty damn decent at 4.7GHz~ stable at around 69C with just above stock voltages (under load). I'm not comfortable with those temperatures and would like to test out watercooling. Looking around I can see quite a few 50MM radiators, I'm running a Mini-ATX board so have some play room to put the radiators somewhere (and the pump?). The chassis is a X145F which I have a few laying around. I'm looking to build at least 3 of these, so would like some input from others before going ahead. Also just to point out that, yes I've had authorization from our DC to have watercooling as it's covered in their insurance.
I know Asetek makes watercooling systems for rack servers, but pricing and availability is all "contact us for details"

It's quite a bit smaller than the H55's radiator but the fans also push a LOT more air. Thankfully that's also a all-in-one pump.

Asetek is actually a huge OEM manufacturer to most 'all-in-one' sealed watercooling kits.

It isn't made with normal fittings, pretty sure they're glued. I'd look for a standalone waterblock with a pump built in, I know at least swiftech made one. Also for fill what are you going to do to bleed to loop? Don't think there will be room for a res.

But I guess it's better to find something that isn't all glued together :v:
Anyone have any older servers they want to sell? I'm thinking of upgrading my general server from a T60p.
Anyone have any older servers they want to sell? I'm thinking of upgrading my general server from a T60p.
How much are you willing to spend? You can find certain server models for dirt cheap, HP DL380 for example, G5 and G6's go for next to nothing, can even find them for free if you know who to ask for it.

I don't need anything to powerful.
200 dollars shipped is my limit. I don't need anything to powerful.
look into retired enterprise servers DL380 6+ r710, r610, r510, r210 ii what do you want to do on it?
200 dollars shipped is my limit. I don't need anything to powerful.
R710s are still fairly relevant in terms of processing power and they're pretty cheap. If you can get one that has an enterprise idrac it's some pretty good shit.
I really want to pick up a Dell tower server for noise and form factor but they hold their value SO much better than racks.
Almost everything is installed. I'm still missing rails for the DL580, two Smart Arrays and the PDP-11/23. I also have to hunt down where all my PDU's went and finish some extra wiring. Unfortunately the entire setup only has a single 20A 240v circuit. I'm just happy to see that HP finally loaded into something that goddamn resembles a rack. It's been stacked up being a bitch to service for almost ten years.
Now one of the Flex System's nodes is being an ass :v: IBM, seriously, what the fuck? I can't even boot DSA to collect system logs. [t]http://i.imgur.com/xz2KLGN.png[/t]
[t]http://i.imgur.com/GasVoSi.png[/t] The latest project. Ingate SIParators... apparently designed to be annoying on purpose?
look into retired enterprise servers DL380 6+ r710, r610, r510, r210 ii what do you want to do on it?
Web server, private git repo, development environment, FTP/Cloud storage, maybe a mail server.
Web server, private git repo, development environment, FTP/Cloud storage, maybe a mail server.
How much storage are you thinking about needing? Do you have to pay for power directly? Does noise bother you a ton if you are going to have it in your room? Are you going to be wanting to run VMs, if so how many do you think you'll run? If storage is your main goal then the R510 is probably your best bet. If you are wanting a good amount of RAM, Processing Power, and Storage, the R710 (3.5" Drive Model) is good for that. You can switch out the processors for L5630's if you are wanting to save on the power bill or add L5640's if you want more cores that don't use a ton of energy. The R210 II is great for small setups. It has a single newer processor compared to most of the other servers on the list. The max RAM is 32GB and it can only hold 2 x 3.5" drives or 4 x 2.5" drives which isn't the greatest but if you don't need much storage and power/noise is a major concern for you. The power draw at idle for the R210II is super low compared to the R710 (Especially if the R710 has 15K SAS drives and/or X series xeons). The HP DL380 G6 is a lot like the R710, but just HP branded if you prefer HP over Dell. The R610 is also a great pick because it is smaller than the R710 because it is a 1U and actually some how quieter than the R710. It can has a pretty good performance/dollar ratio if you don't need a ton of drives. Let me know if you have any questions. Source: I have a R710 sitting in my bedroom :pudge: Would anyone be interested in a write up of recommended servers for different applications and price ranges?

Noise doesn't bother me to much. But a writeup would be a godsend.
I'm not 100% sure but it looks like it was indeed a PSU issue. It's been 48 hours of CPU and memory stress testing and server is working fine. Need to test it a bit more to be sure through. So thanks again for the suggestion. PSU's for those servers are expensive as hell (~400$) but I guess it's still going to be cheaper than buying a new warranty plan from IBM.
Did you ever get definitive confirmation on that?

I was looking around though and for you, your best bet is to get a R710 or R610. You said that $200 (Including shipping) is your absolute maximum budget? Do you have any hard drives that you are wanting to put into the server or does it need to come with some?

It's actually the reason why I want to upgrade, as the T60p has ~60gbs of space.
Web server, private git repo, development environment, FTP/Cloud storage, maybe a mail server.
For that, you would probably be fine if you got a cheap i5 optiplex off eBay and tossed in some RAM. It would be dead quiet and small.
Did you ever get definitive confirmation on that?
It turned out that at least one of the servers had this in IMM log before it shut down (not exact messages but you get the idea): [12:42:30] Main board voltage drop below threshold detected [12:42:35] Power supply failure detected Additionally IBM support checked DSA logs and confirmed that it's a PSU issue and that there is a new PSU revision which doesn't have this problem.

I fucking need rack rails. God dammit. IS it really that hard to keep rails together with hardware? My DL580 came without rails. Yesterday I was given four more to salvage parts from and they still had everything except the fucking rails.
