• Graphics card - should I be worried?

Ok so I recently got a new graphics card, a GTX 570, I unplugged my PC, unplugged the cables in my old card, a GTX 295, took it out, put the new one in and then I stumbled upon a problem. One of the cables that was previously in my old GPU didn't fit in my new one, it was 4 wide and 2 high instead of 3 wide and 2 high. I did see two more 3x2 cables however and decided to plug one of those in. So then I turned on my pc, Windows did some stuff, I installed new drivers but I'm still worried. Main reason? Speccy doesn't tell me anything: It only says the name of the card and some basic stuff... windows didn't notify me about anything else though. So... should I be worried? :ohdear:
The 295 used an 8pin + 6pin, the 570 uses two 6-pins. You shouldn't be worried.
Ok so maybe Speccy doesn't support the GTX 570 yet? Could that be it?
there are 2 types of PCI-E power cables, 6 pin and 6+2 pin the extra 2 on the 6+2 are on a small separate cable connected to the other six, they can be clipped onto the 6 or removed so it functions as either a 6 pin or 8 pin connector your 295 required one 8 pin and one 6 pin power connector, your 570 requires two 6 pins [editline]3rd May 2011[/editline] and speccy is good but not perfect, I see a lot of cases where it only shows some GPU information or even ignores the GPU completely if you want to check the temps try HWMonitor
I checked on HWMonitor and it's about 30 Celsius when doing nothing, then I tried a game and I'm getting better performance than before. My worries are no more, sorry for making such a rather pointless thread. I was just a bit worried. :keke:
If the power pins weren't plugged in properly I believe it would tell you on start up with an error message.
not sure if it's changed yet but last I heard (and damn did I hear) leaving the card without enough PCI-E power connectors makes it emit an ear splitting high tone to kindly and softly alert you
Unless the tone made me deaf I'm pretty sure I didn't hear anything remotely like what you just said. :v:
not sure if it's changed yet but last I heard (and damn did I hear) leaving the card without enough PCI-E power connectors makes it emit an ear splitting high tone to kindly and softly alert you
I've tried it, it's horrible. Card survived, PSU died hard-time.
what the fuck kinda UPgrade is that ?!
He previously said that his GTX 295 was dying.
He previously said that his GTX 295 was dying.
I see that no where in this thread.
I see that no where in this thread.
That's because I made another thread not too long ago. My GTX 295 was getting temperatures up to 95+ degrees celcius when barely doing anything. Plus it was crashing all the time.
