There's nothing wrong with Windows just because it has the largest amount of malware aimed at it, the same would occur if any particular Linux distribution had the largest market share. Malware designers go for the biggest crowds they can, which happens to be Windows.
I only use Linux on my brothers shitty laptop now, Windows runs like shit on it, so Linux is my only other option, trying to convince him to use it too so he stops bitching about Windows lagging? Impossible.
Linux is actually more secure by design.
Windows has big gaping security holes which are caused by fundamental design flaws.
Windows needs to redo their kernel, but that would ruin backwards compatibility if they gave it all of the fixes it needs. They would never do it because of that, but they should.

That I can agree on. Windows always has hundreds of possible vulnerabilities at it's core. Just shooting it down for malware isn't right though.

Unless they do some sort of compatibility layer like Wine or XP mode.
Free as in freedom. But I wouldn't pay for it, because then the freedom thing wouldn't be what it is.
I used it as I believed it would be harder for my mother to fuck it up.
Seriously.. no matter how much I lock a PC down she'll break it doing simple tasks such as browsing internet.
Free as in freedom
I get so much more done in the command line.
I'm just using Linux for when I'm not playing games. It boots faster, I also feel like it browses the web faster, and I love fucking around in it to get it to my liking.
I don't like linux.
If I had to pick one, it would be free beer :/
I actually like it a good bit. I don't care about games. Also, being a computer engineering student, linux is kind of needed.
Freedom

As an A+ certified PC technician, I also need Linux. It gets me out of all sorts of jams, and makes Windows 7 Reinstalls so much easier, moving files around freely from a LiveCD.
pixel you haven't posted a new desktop in a while, did you settle down on one or something?
Pixel, we're concerned about you. Are you okay? As ButtsexV2 said, what's going on?

Can you explain Linux's secure design elements and Windows' design flaws to someone less in the know?

I've been working on a laptop that only has Windows 7 installed, so I haven't had much time to tinker with themes on my Linux laptop. Even though this thing is a bit of a dinosaur, It has upgrade potential and once I upgrade to an Atheros-based Mini-PCI wireless-N card, then I'll install Linux and wipe the Windows partition. Maybe then I can post more.
both.

The sticky has a pretty good explanation of this.
Linux isn't free, see enterprise distros
it is time consuming, cost of operation > windows platform

Linux is free. just some implementations aren't.

I can't find it... too much text in that post. Can you link me or quote the relevant parts, I guess?
e: I've read it thrice and still can't find it. Am I missing something simple?

I can't find it either; I guess I didn't read it there. Oh, well.

Redhat, Suse
GNU/Linux (which is what you're calling Linux here) is made up of Free Software. Anybody can sell Free Software just like how you can do anything to your car once you buy it, just most distros are free while companies like Red Hat sell enterprise distros and provide support.
Redhat, Suse
Redhat is free. They give out all the source code to build it. This is what CentOS does; they download the source from Redhat and compile it.
Redhat is only selling support (and binaries I guess)

20bucks for a RH distro no one said you can't charge for the distro only it has to be small
What do you mean it HAS to be small?

Those aren't just Linux. Linux is free.
