I'm ok with it, I use 4:3
I've been using Widescreen LCDs since 2004, so to see 4:3 and 5:4 still alive and kicking makes me cringe.
4:3 is better than any widescreen bro
4:3 is better than any widescreen bro
No way sis... You best be trollin'. 4:3 is missing alot of visuals on each side. Watching a widescreen movie on a 4:3 (or even 5:4) screen makes me want to kill myself.

^ that.
1600x1200. Biggest 4:3 monitor made I'm pretty sure.
Um, there's plenty after that, 1792x1344, 1800x1440, 1920x1440, 2560x1920 is the largest. For a single monitor. I have a 1792x1344 monitor.

There isn't a graphics card on the planet that can't handle that for you.

Well if you dwell in the past, you deserve to be left in the dust. Enjoy your 4:3 prison cell.

I try to run everything in windowed now.
My LCD is 1920x1080, but I run my games windowed at 1680x1050, and the framerate increased by 10 fps with Aero disabled. My old 1440x900 runs games at 1280x800 windowed, and gets even better performance from the same card, having to draw less pixels. AA and AF are cranked to 8x each, respectively.
16:9/10 is missing a lot of visuals on the top and bottom. trying to read on a 16:9 screen makes me want to kill myself
2560x1600, more visuals on top and bottom than any 4:3 monitor.
It might be late, I didn't read page 2 to 4, but how shitty a lower-than-native resolution looks like depends on what scaling system the monitor uses. For instance, my old Amilo looked like shit on a lower resolution, diagonal lines and circles were cut in. But on my BenQ i got later, it just looks a bit blurry.
I prefer to run my games windowed, running in fullscreen tends to fail if you alt-tab. I found that 1900x1040 is the best resolution to use if you want it to use as much of the screen as possible
1920x1080 and a 9600GT will run on max/mid just fine.
Your friend is an idiot. The newest crop of cards will run Crysis at 1080P with no problem. Good settings too. Hell my 8800GS can manage Crysis at 2048x1536(highest my CRT will allow) if I overclock the piss out of it and set things rather low, and it's onboard compared to 5850/460.
...but new enough to have widescreen support. The devs probably use those horrific 1280x1024 5:4 ratio LCDs, and think the rest of the world uses them too. :downs:
no not really, those games are pretty old as far as widescreen is concerned [editline]10:43AM[/editline]
Shit, even PS2 games had widescreen support, come on devs...
not all of them did, and it was fucked wide screen. it wasn't even the full frame [editline]10:46AM[/editline]
16:9/10 is missing a lot of visuals on the top and bottom. trying to read on a 16:9 screen makes me want to kill myself
uh no that's only if a game doesn't properly support widescreen. if a game properly supports widescreen, you actually see more as it enlarges the view point horizontally. browsing a web page is only less if you compare 1280x960 to 1280x800, but if you compare 1600x1200 to 1920x1200, you're actually getting more [editline]10:48AM[/editline]
a: no hope of ever finding a wallpaper again b: then I lose my horizontal space for my IRC window [editline]01:46AM[/editline] c: crt monitors don't do so well sideways
a: you mean you don't make your own wallpapers? fuck you are way behind the times b: err you get more vertical space for your IRC window and it's not like it's taking up the entire screen now anyways so that's just scavenging for something completely stupid to bitch about. c: fuck you are WAY behind the times
1080p all the way.
I got a Geforce 9600 GT, a card that's starting to fall behind, yet I can max most games and still get at least 30fps in 1080p

800x600 :unsmith:
800x600 :unsmith:
Oh god. My friend's family computer from around 2002 had a 800x600 CRT monitor. We got a 1024 x 768 Compaq LCD monitor for our family computer in 2003, and it felt like it was cramped on his monitor. It was unbearable, despite his PC being much faster. The worst part, he used it up until he could afford his own PC about a year ago.
Not a 2560x1920 monitor, check out the Viewsonic P225F
I did and this is what came up on every source, "up to 2048 by 1536 resolution at 70 Hz"
I did and this is what came up on every source, "up to 2048 by 1536 resolution at 70 Hz"
that's what it's rated at. Most CRT monitors allow you to go up way beyond recommended resolution, and this one happens to let you push it up to 2560x1920. my CTX PL9 is rated at 1600x1200 but I'm at 1920x1440, still pulling a solid 70 Hz.
Just be quiet before you hurt yourself ok.
hahahaha we had this argument before, remember? all you did was keep falling on your ass, are you scarred by the memories or something? [editline]01:05AM[/editline] using (mostly) movies as you find more comparisons than you do for games, but really it's the same exact concept as the wide-screen format literally originated in photography and cinema.
