Its cool and people will buy it. Thats why.
I'm sure some people have uses for tablets such as this
as for me, it would be just something cool to have
I have uses for it personally.

Definition of a gimmick.

Same.
But they will have to perform some witchcraft to get the battery life long enough for me to buy one. The weight will also be an issue I reckon.

True, the price is more or less the gimmicky part in my opinion though. The Wacom pen is honestly one of my favorite parts, since I use my Wacom tablet regularly. And since it handles multitasking so well, coupled with the handwriting recognition, I think it could be very hand for art/college next year.

Yeah, if it were cheaper I could see the reason behind the average consumer buying one but at ~$1,000 it would just be a waste of money when you could get a netbook or similar for simple word processing and browsing.

True, but this is the type of thing that I could use just as much, if not more than my laptop (minus gaming).
I would love to buy one for taking notes in class, but yeah, the price point is a little too high as is for me, the average consumer.
they have a 399 verison
they have a 399 verison
The $399 one is an Android tablet.

there is a windows based one in the works
Holy awesome
I bet the battery will only last like an hour though
They're quite a few Android tablets in the works right now:

The Eee Pad Slider, as Gizmodo states, seems to be the most interesting. Plus it runs Honeycomb, which seems promising enough.

Andriod is the best phone operating system. I would not want to use it on a tablet.

Which is why Google is making Honeycomb...to make it work for tablets better.
Apparently it's big. Really big. Big enough to give you some fatigue after a few minutes of holding it. And it runs Windows 7 - something that's not meant for tablets (and doesn't work for tablets).
can we get a windows phone 7 tablet please.
Windows 7 has great support on tablets. I would love this if I can get my college books on it.

Well, with this being Windows 7 that would only depend whether you can get your book from some eBook store (possibly CourseSmart if nothing else).
How the fuck do you put an i5 in a tablet
I want one.

You so silly.
They put them in LAPTOPS thinner than this.

By inserting the processor into the motherboard, then putting that into the tablet's case.
How the hell is that going to be cooled well? I can imagine it running into a few issues. Also I can't imagine a good battery life, it'll probably be similar to a laptop. Microsoft still need to make Windows 7 a lot more tablet friendly.
if this thing ends up costing ~$800 the iPad would be screwed
No, actually, most people in my school barely know the brand ASUS exists, and pretty much everyone thinks that the iPad is the only tablet or something.
Plus, it's the iPad is from Apple. Shitloads of people don't buy their products because they're good, it's just that they're Apple products, and are all shiny and aluminum and shit.
I don't really see why people are so interested in tablets in the first place

Windows 7 wasn't really designed with tablets in mind, and seeing as windows 8 is soon coming out, I doubt it's going to be any tablet friendlier.
Also you underclock it untill it stays on a reasonable temperature on load. An underclocked i5 will still perform a ton better than a stock-clocked high series Atom
True.
I read an article somewhere that someone had developed a tablet friendly UI for windows 7. It looked very promising and planned to change the way people use Windows 7 on a tablet.
Looks like a Ipad Copy

How can they expect this to be good without OSX?
It doesn't have OSX??? /troll
