(It's in a rack in my garage now, but I don't have any pictures of that)
I need to get out of my house, search around places, I have a feeling the city is full of unused computers waiting to be given to me.

Is it just me, or would this be incredibly illegal in the United States? I thought the FCC has restrictions on doing stuff like this.
But I might be wrong.

Mass broadcasting 802.11 channels over exceptionally long distances are forbidden by the FCC last I checked so he must be doing something else I'm not aware of.
Mass broadcasting 802.11 channels over exceptionally long distances are forbidden by the FCC last I checked so he must be doing something else I'm not aware of.
Well he doesn't live in the United States so the FCC doesn't affect him. I'm probably thinking that's why someone asked earlier though.

India.

The top antenna clusters now run on 3.6 GHz (802.11y)

And the lower antenna clusters (main axillary broadcasting) operate on 5 GHz (802.11a/h/j/n)

What about 802.11g?
Most popular, but don't most devices accept A as well? I forget.

She hates seeing a computer on, and well that did not work well with my overnight 3d rendering.

Also I have a arduino with a temp sensor in there as well just to see how hot / cold it is up there!
why do the ones of the cables look like they were scanned from an old photo when the server one looks digital
I wondered this too. But then I thought maybe they were pretty old pictures that were taken of the tower years ago and were taken with a film camera.

When you guys set up fileservers, are they mainly for your use? Like you store files on their for your network? Or you use them for file hosting on the web? How many of you have websites you host on it?

Music/other essential backups, and for me, the ultimate convenience of having tons of drivers and software for when repairing/installing from scratch for people's computers. I deal a lot with repairing for friends/family/people my parents work with, etc etc and it's so time-saving to have drivers and service packs/updates, and programs all in one place, readily accessible.

it might have something to do with 7 being a more stable operating system. half the time my SATA Raid card wouldn't come out of hibernation in XP, always did fine in 7

For me it's because I have the perfect case (a gorgeous Lian Li mid tower that fits perfectly between my desk and the wall) but it only has 4 HDD bays. Even 2 TB drives wouldn't suffice and I hate having it on all the time to seed. It's much easier to just have a spare parts computer chill in the basement on a wired connection where I don't care what it looks like or how much noise/light pollution it gives off.

That's what I was thinking of doing. My family just upgraded their computer, and I figured I'd take the computer put in a decent size drive and dump all my old media and stuff on it.
Where do you guys get this awesome server gear? i'm sure most of you didn't actually buy it full price.

Just about always bought used or gotten for free. New servers are really expensive. At least the enterprise level ones.
