not bad for $15 - i'm going to be using it as a print server, NAS and a Minecraft server. i already got a network switch.

I can't help but think a server THAT old can't deliver a good performance to power consumption ratio.
I'd rather spend some more on a server that performs the same, but saves more power.
i need a spare hdd, all of mine are full :(
HDD's are incredibly cheap, get some money and buy one.
where can i get ide? i refuse to use SATA
where can i get ide? i refuse to use SATA
Ebay? What's wrong with SATA?
where can i get ide? i refuse to use SATA
I don't know, ask your local tech-museum.
Really, SATA pci cards exists for a reason, so does SATA-to-ide adapters
whats bad about SATA?
if i can i avoid IDE
where can i get ide? i refuse to use SATA
Even I will admit SATA is much better than IDE and I don't even have a PC that uses SATA. What is your reasoning for this?

Okay we can all agree that we are jealous.
=( I can't get RHEL to work in VBox.
Anyway, I have a HP ML310 G3 (backup server) and a G5p (primary).
And misc computers sitting around my house.
New server I bought at work:
Dell R510 - File/Print Server + Backup Domain Controller
Xeon E5507 2.26Ghz Quad, 4GB RAM, 2x250GB Raid 1 - OS, 2x1TB Raid 1 - Storage
[img_thumb]http://filesmelt.com/dl/IMG_010311.JPG[/img_thumb]
[img_thumb]http://filesmelt.com/dl/IMG_01051.JPG[/img_thumb] (Watchguard X550e Firewall, 8 port KVM,the R510 and some old tower servers below)
Found an old Dell Poweredge 6650 in my basement. 4U with two 900w power supplies, 6 fans in the middle, a Xeon logo (apparently this model can handle up to 4 of them so I'm optimistic), and a minimum of 1.5 GB of ram. I believe there's some sort of raid array (iirc) and a fresh install of windows server 2008. we shall soon find out!
5 160 GB drives in what I believe is RAID 5! A little under 600 GB of usable space. I've got a new seedbox!

Sounds like a pretty cool basement? All mines got is a few shop mannequins and a truckload of paint.
I don't even have a basement
I don't even have a basement
me neither
me neither
I wish I did
I would build a nerd/geek kingdom
I have a Dell PowerEdge 1850 which was co-located, but DHL kindly destroyed it when it was being brought back to my house. :(
Was a nice server too, so that was a couple of hundred quid down the drain. (I left it too long before I checked the state of it so I couldn't claim - Don't make the same mistake I did.)

FFFF it's a NAS =! SAN
FFFF it's a NAS =! SAN
Technically, it's a hybrid between SAN and NAS. It's set up as an iSCSI target, but also available over copper as a NAS.
