All linked by 2gb/s fibre and 4 x Bonded gigabit copper. Used to have a DL380G3 and a couple of SuperMicro chassis which held various bits in their life. I had a massive clear out about a year ago where both my racks got parted out.
What you running there?
Man, I need to get a 1gb router and switch.
Man, I need to get a 1gb router and switch.
I need to get a router that doesn't crap out after around 24 hours of being on.
Fucking Linksys WRT54G V7
ghettofixed it with a spare timer meant for controlling Christmas light decorations, turns it off for 5 minutes every day when i don't use the Internet.
Technically, it's a hybrid between SAN and NAS. It's set up as an iSCSI target, but also available over copper as a NAS.
Yeah my server is loud and obnoxious but at least your can do stuff.
Don't be, they're all loud and obnoxious.
Are sure it isn't just overheating? - My WRT54GL has an uptime of 73 days and 21 hours at the time of this post.

I really don't know, but i highly doubt it overheats in a living room that's kept at around 18 degrees Celsius.
Keep in mind you have a WRT54GL, they're (almost entirely) based on the WRT54G V4.
your's are running a vastly superior Linux based firmware (either Linksys own or some other aftermarket) while mine is using the gimped and generally horrible VxWorks based firmware.
And since it's only got a 2mb flash, it doesn't support any of the aftermarket router distro's out there.
Moved my NAS into my free case. I still don't use it.

I acquired this lot about a week ago. All I've bothered to do so far is set up a domain, a VPN and a fileserver, anyone got any more exciting ideas?

Or One of those goodwill places.
If anyone's got any ideas of how to easily virtualize servers on Windows Server 2008 R2, I'd be nice to hear.
I have it setup on my best spare machine (likes to eat resources).
I run a Dell Optiplex 960 with a Q9550 @ 2.8 GHZ with 8 gb @ 800MHZ as my download/fileserver/dedicated cpu folding rig for facepunch.

Youtube is a good resource too, if you can do it in Virtualbox, then Hyper-v is pretty easy

In a bit of a dilemma, I wanna start using Windows Home Server again (after I got a licence from MSDN) as I really enjoyed the trial, but I don't wanna format my NAS to stick it on there (as it's running a fuckload of other stuff like mediatomb, CUPS, and some network stuff). Is it worth it?
I could pull another box down from the loft and use that but it means I'll need to buy another HDD
I've only got the one desktop at the moment, but I'm hoping to upgrade in the next year or so and if I do it's going to be pulling duty as a NAS/HTPC. I know it's big for a HTPC but whatever, It'll just be sitting behind a speaker or something.

RE-PC.
I live in Vancouver and even I know of the place and it's near-legendary status.
I've got a quad core 1U rackmount with 8GB of RAM sitting around and I have no idea what to do with it for now. Any ideas?

Nowadays I think IDE is actually more expensive than SATA.

Yep, especially considering the prices on decent S-ata PCI/PCI-Express cards are really low right now.
Thread is so win.
Our school business department comp guy, Randy Mills, conned the district into sending in four decommissioned dell poweredge servers for practicing in Linux for CyberPatriot III and IV. Anyhow, the funny thing is, that they're now technically ours, so my friend Issac and I are hoping to setup virtualized servers on one, and take home the rest. Honestly, looks pretty promising, because the district was just going to sell them, but they just gave them to him, and he's not interested in them, so we might get free stuff out of the deal.
