Hey I got this laptop that has windows 7 on it. Everytime when it tries to start windows, it gets a bsod that doesn't really specify an error. Only 0x0000007E and some more of these numbers inside brackets. My dad said this happened while he was performing a windows update. He says he just let it update and put the laptop away, and then it suddenly bsod'd with that error. I thought I was onto something when I tried starting in Safe Mode. When I tried to, it said it was undoing windows updates. It stayed like that for about 10 minutes and then it said 'Shut down' and the laptop restarted. But in the end I got the same bsod. Now everytime I try safe mode, it goes to that 'attempting to undo windows updates' or something like that with no result. Any suggestions? I am probably going to save whatever files I can still save from it and then I'll just try to format, but I prefer doing something that doesn't involve deleting all files.
What's the string at the top? It must specify an error there.
It doesn't. It looks something like this
Is it a Dell Inspiron? if so http://answers.microsoft.com/en-us/windows/forum/windows_vista-hardware/bsod-stop-0x0000007e/75508d4d-14eb-4697-8926-ed58459bd7f1
that looks like my issue, but I can't get into windows (not even by safe mode) so I can't delete the update. Also I don't have the "Repair my pc" option.
If it's a newer laptop it should be using SATA in which case you can pull out the hdd, plug it into a desktop and pull what you want off of it and format it. If it's IDE you can buy an adapter and do the same.
I decided to just burn ubuntu on a cd, and save the files with that. Then I formatted Thanks for your help anyway
