Not everyone wants to use Linux or use the shitty Windows sidebar gadget things. To me those gadgets look uglier. And, resource hog? Really. Oh no, Rainmeter.exe is using 10,000k of memory, the terror! Big whoop. I have more RAM then you can shake a stick at, most people do. 4-6GB is more then enough. (Though I have 8 GB... which is kind of overkill) So what if we want to make our computing experiences look a little better, be a little easier, overall just... More pleasant? Look, you're entitled to your opinion. But you don't go have to go around thinking everyone who uses Rainmeter, even for PRACTICAL uses such as myself, is dumb, rating them dumb, and then even blatantly pointing out that they're even using it in a more then likely "ewww" or "ughhh" tone. In my opinion, that's being like a -object-phobe. You don't like something, and you go "ew" at it whenever you get the chance.

[editline]28th March 2011[/editline] Seriously, everyone that uses a computer for more than AIM and Youtube goes through a Rainmeter phase. I went through it when I was 12 and then realized, "You know what, this is a useless waste of memory. I don't need all of this information displayed constantly and it looks super duper ricey."

If they want Rainmeter - let them have it. You don't have enough power to stop people from using it.
I'm fine with Rainmeter, just most people tend to go overboard with configurations and use horrible skins.

Calm your shit.

Don't mind me, just plugging the windows gadget I made because I got irritated by rainmeter

Has things on it I actually am interested in knowing instead of stupidly oversized clocks and other shit like that. I like to know the weather and current temps outside, the moon phases one is interesting, the trash bin one is useful, the date and time ones are nice, and the links to programs one is good for if I'm using a program where I need to have Object Dock closed for more screen room. (That sentence is only slightly confusing) Of course, the reminders is obvious. And, the CPU meters for when I'm gaming. I usually try not to have games in full screen mode because 1. I hate it and 2. Monitoring temps and CPU usage. Foobar player is the only one that is impractical and is just there for looks.
I keep all of those things at the top of my screen (except for the CPU usage meters because they don't fit) so they can be easily seen. With gadgets, I'd more then likely have to move or minimize what I'm doing to see it, and to me, that's annoying. The only technological information I have displayed is CPU usage. That's all I want, and that's all I need. And the weather thing, I like to instantly know what the weather will be like without having to open Firefox, or a new tab to go to a weather website. (I have a FF addon for weather but it was causing some issues so I ended up disabling it...) Call me lazy, but that's how I want to do it.

You can also set gadgets to appear in front of everything all of the time.
I'd rather just move my eyeballs instead of pressing a key combo... :v: Having them appear on top of everything just seems weird to me. Oh well, we all have our preferences...
SO HARD TO DO WITHOUT RAINMETER!
It's not difficult, no, but there's no "quick glance" method, unless you like having a giant wall of monospace text covering your desktop. I don't. With Rainmeter, I can have a tiny thing in the corner that says "CPU: 32 RAM: 43". I'm not required to have all the doozies and whatsits some skins have. [editline]28th March 2011[/editline]
I'd rather just move my eyeballs instead of pressing a key combo... :v: Having them appear on top of everything just seems weird to me. Move away from it and everything returns to normal.

Nice and simple. [editline]e[/editline] Haven't downloaded Rainmeter or Rocketdock again yet, and in all honesty I don't use them much so I don't really plan to.
So simple. I never found a need for the various gadgets people use.
Even simpler I don't really care about simplicity or looks, this just works best for me
[img_thumb]http://www.1337upload.net/files/0kuvatausta.png[/img_thumb]
Still looking for this wallpaper.
[img_thumb]http://filesmelt.com/dl/wallpappers.png[/img_thumb] I have rocketdock on the right window, but its set to auto hide as I like to use all my windows maximized, so it got in the way without it
