Like how Alienware is owned by Dell.
I use an Alienware laptop. It's hard to find a powerful laptop with an AMAZING warranty. I had some issues and they came and replaced the mobo for free. They have amazing support.
Also, if you call them, you can haggle the prices extremely low. http://forum.notebookreview.com/alienware/456885-aw-dell-ordering-advice-how-save.html
Asus. Powerful laptops (maybe not "ludicrously powerful", but more than enough for any gamer), and very good support (failed hard drive was replaced in days, no questions asked). And more affordable than Alienware.

I'm certain to get flamed to fuck for this, but Apple MacBook Pros are rather powerful, and with my AppleCare warrenty I have not had to pay for any of the repairs I have had on it. Sure they aren't anywhere near as powerful as a high powered Asus or such, and they are fairly expensive, but I really love them and they are neigh indestructible.

17" starts at $2,300 and you get a "2.53GHz Intel Core i5" with Intel integrated graphics.
So powerful.

if you're only here to attention seek then leave
if you're only here to attention seek then leave
No, I'm here to point out that there are other brands of laptops besides alienware that are fairly powerful and have fantastic warranties.

All bought titles are for attention.
I'd love to custom build a Sager laptop. *drools*

$6500 per monitor
[editline]wefe[/editline]
42'' diagonal, 2880x900 resolution.
I would get one if it was like $500
Wow, cool. The resolution is almost as large as my 27" iMac.

You have to be subtle while bragging, like MacTrekkie.

I absolutely love clevo laptops. They are sleek, well-built and totally inconspicuous. They are extremely easy to open by your self and DIY rig/fix/replace. It it one laptop brand that has my complete and utter respect.

looks like a little bit of both

MacBooks would be good notebooks if what they were capable of was even with what they charge for it.

With the SSD RAID5 and extra peripherals you got, It's probably worth it for a laptop... But there's no use for that powerful of a laptop, because it's just going to be really heavy and you won't want to move it that often. IMHO it's better to get a really good desktop for whatever power-requiring software you use and a smaller laptop that's much weaker but has really good battery life.
It'll be cheaper to get a netbook / 13-14" laptop and a desktop with the same specs as that laptop (if not better) for half that price, easily. You'll be able to do most of the same work anywhere, for longer, without a charger, but be able to go back home and crank out the really complicated stuff there.
Or at least that's what I learned after I got an Alienware M9750 2 1/2 years ago. About a year ago I upgraded my desktop and got myself a netbook. So much more worth it.
Also, customized one of these up to $12,000, with only a single monitor. Insanely overpriced, even if it's submerged in mineral oil and comes overclocked to 4.0GHz:

When I buy a gaming laptop, I'm looking for something powerful enough to rival a full-sized gaming rig, and that laptop i posted does just that. Expensive, yes... but it's small enough to take around my house room to room, since I don't compute on the go often. Even when I do take my laptop somewhere, it's in a laptop backpack. The weight is negligible compared to a standard laptop bag with the shoulder strap.

neither, he's pointing out how absurd that monitor is. because people using macs are trolling.
[editline]23rd January 2011[/editline]
laptops are something that everyone wants and a lot of people buy but usually end up plugging it in and never actually using the battery.
laptops are secondary computers, unless you wanna pull the bank of buying a $3000 laptop then it's not going to be as good as a $500 handbuilt rig. buy one for train rides and school, not for "carying it around the house and taking it to starbucks!!"
Starbucks
The thing is though, if you go to [del]hipster land[/del] Starbucks and use anything but a Mac, people assume you are hacking.

You'd need to rob a bank before being able to afford the MBP in the first place.

And a GT330
[editline]23rd January 2011[/editline]
Thing is, Mac OS memory management is much better than Windows XP and Vista, and a bit better than Windows 7. That means, 4GB of memory on Mac OS X is more effective than 4GB under Windows.
Just putting that out there, I need another 2GB and a new HDD for my Mac Mini.
Yeah, OS X has this feel that you can only get if you have a Mac computer. Everything is just so smooth and I never have to worry about memory management. It's hard to explain, but it's awesome. I have a Mac mini late-2010 with 4GB of RAM
Everything feels smooth for me in Windows 7 too.

You can get the same with a free and open-source Operating System.
But I'll leave you two to figure that out yourself :tiphat:

Daay'rm $30
