OP, don't listen to all the blind hate and fanboys in this thread. Both systems have their cons and pros. Many people like the look, feel, and simplicity of Macs, while others care more for what's in inside, etc... It depends on what you like. If you don't mind me asking, what do you plan on using it for?
no one has posted "blind hate" or exhibited any fanboyism except for one poster
do you think OSX would install on this? http://www.scan.co.uk/Product.aspx?WebProductID=1299034
If you like the feel of it just spray paint your laptop silver with sparkles
For £900, you're better off buying yourself this and buying a decent hard drive with whatever's left over.

If you really like OSX, buy a Mac. Otherwise you'll want a PC. It's pretty simple.
Superior battery life and the *feel* of better build quality you are guaranteed over most laptops with similar specs and size. Hell, I didn't use my Windows 7 desktop for two weeks, instead using my 15" 2010 Macbook Pro and Windows just doesn't feel all that great. Hackintosh seems a bit more iffy to work than bootcamp. If you really need the software on OSX, go for it, but if not don't bother. It's a big sting just for the looks.
no lets see i've had a macbook pro, dropped it, all's well had a dell, dropped it, broke the hinge huh
How the hell do you drop a laptop?
How the hell do you drop a laptop?
the same way you drop anything
How the hell do you drop a laptop?
i was walking with it and i was like whoops and it slipped and fell hit the carpet from 4ft hinge now creaks and looks deformed
i was walking with it and i was like whoops and it slipped and fell hit the carpet from 4ft hinge now creaks and looks deformed
were you using it or what because it's pretty hard to just drop a closed laptop
no one has posted "blind hate" or exhibited any fanboyism except for one poster
Other than the fact that most people in this thread have never real world used or even touched a MacBook, rather they look in through the window and only say negative statements about looks and price, never anything about real world use and function.
Battery Life, weight and keyboards are generally speaking vastly superior on MBP's than any windows laptops
It really depends. Macbooks are consistent. You could get this one laptop from X company which has a great GPU, CPU, fair amount of RAM and all that jazz, though when you open the box you realize that the trackpad is awful and the plastic is crappy. You could get another laptop that has excellent battery life, a great keyboard and pointing device, though it uses only Intel graphics. It's a bit difficult to find a well balanced laptop in the PC world. With a MacBook, it's not the best in any way though it's well balanced. Battery life is fairly good, the screens have a decent resolution, the trackpads are nice, keyboard is nice, the cpu is fairly fast (No i3/i5 in the 13"), the GPU is fine though nothing to jizz at. It's all good. Not excellent, Not extreme. Good.
Lets just say that they're marketing is VERY effective.
Other than the fact that most people in this thread have never real world used or even touched a MacBook, rather they look in through the window and only say negative statements about looks and price, never anything about real world use and function.
you don't really need to use a macbook to see what it is
Go to stores. Look at as many other laptops as you can. Get a feel for them, then make your decision based on that. If you have the money for one great. If you find a different laptop that you like better, you may be able to get it with better components. I'll agree though, I like how a mac feels. Couldn't even think of buying one unless I got an amazing deal. Even still, I'm more content with my old Dell Inspiron 8600, more than any other computer I've used recently.
you don't really need to use a macbook to see what it is
Lets never test drive any cars to see how they handle or buy a house without looking inside it. From your post I'm pretty sure you have never used a MacBook, so why are you talking like you have?
Lets never test drive any cars to see what they are or buy a house without looking inside it.
a computer is not as complex, in use anyway, than a car or a house it's a laptop, the only feel that there is to it is the keyboard or trackpad looks don't have anything to do with use. It's a computer. They all use the same hardware and technologies.

A computer is not a large investment? Umm... what? Look, you have obviously never used a MacBook and all you can do is give negative bandwagon statements about it. Don't talk unless you know what you're talking about.
The Macbook pro trackpads are pretty swish, but for 900 pounds you're better off buying a Toshiba Qosmio.
Check out Asus laptops. Basically you'll get a laptop that's twice as fast as a macbook pro for half the price.
why do people even post these threads, they'll know the outcome anyways considering facepunch's obvious bias
I had a toughbook running XP and I ran it over with a car and it was fine. What's your point?
My Toughbook Pro had the same treatment, still works
it's called a "Toughbook" for a reason.
ITT: people debate on how a laptop's operating system effects its chance of survival when being run over by vehicles
