It's cool.
Custom ordered Macs are generally a rip-off in my opinion, but the entry-level machines offered on the Apple website are pretty reasonably priced.
Oh but you are getting Apple's excelent after purchase care with it
Have you had to experience it yourself, or are you just generalising?
I was being serious with that bit.

I'm interested, care to elaborate?
Although it does vary from person to person, I have heared some awful horror stories about Apple stores.

The stores, or their telephone support as well?
Depends on what you need it for. I work on a Mac and use Windows for myself. Since I was forced to work on mac I had many things that I missed, but so far I could find good replacements for the tools you have on windows for my Mac.

On their newer models of iMac they are using a propriety HDD connector (or will be), for monitoring data, and most likely, DRM.
Good chance he was 100% correct in some cases, but people will find a way around that like they did most other hardware restrictions.

It's, as far as I know, only present in the new iMacs, so I don't see why a hackintosh should not work.
Biggest issue with buying a Mac is that you get a shitty hardware that costs too much.
MacOS on the other hand is quite good, I recommend at least trying it out.
